Chapter 457 Become Enemies
Elizabeth wasn't planning to waste words with Ethan. She shot Stanley a look. "Go!"
Immediately, she summoned the malignant aura from her seal and Rune stones, crafting an ethereal sword. She thrust it toward Ethan, the energy crackling in the air. Stanley, not far behind, unleashed his most powerful technique, unleashing a swarm of poisonous insects.
Ethan's expression changed as he grabbed his student without hesitation to use as a human shield against the oncoming attacks. Elizabeth's evil aura sword slashed through the student, sending him into violent convulsions. Stanley's technique hit next, and the student collapsed to the ground, dead, his eyes wide with shock at his fate.
Taking advantage of the chaos, Ethan bolted. Elizabeth didn't let up. "Quick, chase him," she commanded Stanley.
He nodded sharply, determined to leave no loose ends. Together, they pursued Ethan. As they reached the garden, the scenery around them shifted—an evil aura enveloped them, distorting reality.
Elizabeth said, "He was prepared and set up a formation." By the time they broke the formation, Ethan would have run far away. She knew Ethan wouldn't be so easy to kill. It was just as well to keep him alive to find more of his accomplices. And even if he didn't die today, with such a severe backlash and heavy injuries, he wouldn't live long.
Elizabeth remained calm. The little Aether Serpent coiled around her wrist opened its eyes, absorbing the malignant energy around her. Skilled in formations, she identified the exit quickly and watched as Stanley struggled within Ethan's sorcery.
She smirked inwardly, 'Stanley isn't a good person either, let him experience Ethan's power.'
Not only that, but she also secretly introduced evil aura at several key points, doubling the formation's lethality.
The little Aether Serpent also took the opportunity to blend into the formation, occasionally snatching some poisonous insects as food.
It took Stanley more than twenty minutes to force his way out of the formation. When he emerged, his aura was weak, and his face was pale. Even the few pouches hanging from him were half empty.
He glared at Elizabeth, incredulous. "How come you're fine?" He had paid a great price to force his way out. But Elizabeth was fine.
Elizabeth replied nonchalantly, "I found the exit. The formation's attacks don't reach here, so I just stood still."
Stanley's fury was palpable. "Then why didn't you tell me?" he spat.
Elizabeth's eyes sparkled with faux innocence. "I didn't realize you couldn't see through such a formation. Besides, I did call out to you, but you didn't respond. Can you blame me?" She had indeed called out, but just calling out was useless.
Stanley cooled slightly but remained suspicious. He had his own reasons to believe Elizabeth let him suffer on purpose. He then asked with a sinister look, "Ethan escaped. What now?"
Although they had severely injured Ethan today, Stanley was also seriously injured and had suffered heavy losses. His life-bound artifact was broken resisting the formation, more than half of his poisonous insects were gone, and his energy was greatly depleted. He didn't know how long it would take to recover. And it would also affect his lifespan. So Stanley was very furious. If Elizabeth weren't so powerful, he would have wanted to kill her directly.
Elizabeth shrugged casually. "Then go find Ethan. With his backlash and injuries, you should be able to handle him alone. If you really can't find him, there's always his students."
Ethan's students were not good people either. Like the one who was just used as a shield, he carried a lot of resentment, indicating he had taken many lives.
Stanley's eyes narrowed. "He's harmed you immensely. Aren't you going to chase after him?"
Elizabeth replied casually, "I'd like to, but he's obviously prepared and hiding. Why waste my time?"
Elizabeth's calm confidence stemmed from her Aether Serpent's ability to track Ethan's evil aura. She had already locked onto his unique signature. She suggested, "If I were you, I'd head to his base and loot his treasures. Besides, with the Association's vice president trapped in an ancient tomb, you'll be the strongest in Aevum City."
Ethan must have set up a lot in Aevum City. Let Stanley, who had no outlet for his anger, go and destroy it.
Stanley gave Elizabeth a deep look before turning on his heel. "Goodbye!" He knew he was being manipulated, but he didn't care. Destroying Ethan's base suited him just fine, a perfect outlet for his simmering rage. Ethan wouldn't last long with his debilitating injuries, so Stanley had no reservations.
After leaving, Stanley picked up Aaron and had someone book the next flight to Aevum City.
At Betty's villa, seeing the garden still filled with swirling evil wind, Elizabeth moved a few stones and flower pots. Fixing the formation in the garden to naturally dissipate, so the evil aura wouldn't harm anyone.
Betty and Brenda cautiously approached the garden, visibly shaken by the recent events. Seeing the lingering darkness, Betty's voice trembled. "Elizabeth, can you deal with this garden? Otherwise, I can't live here."
Elizabeth didn't even look up. "I don't have the time. It will disperse on its own in two or three months. If it bothers you that much, hire a divination master from the Association." She could handle it, but it was troublesome, time-consuming, and labor-intensive. Betty wasn't worth her help.
Betty was a bit unhappy. Elizabeth could clearly handle it but deliberately didn't help her. But she held back and didn't say it out loud. She said awkwardly, "I don't know any divination masters, can you help?"
Elizabeth glanced at Brenda beside Betty and raised an eyebrow, "Brenda's real father is the president of the Divination Association. Getting a couple of powerful divination masters over is very simple."
Betty fell silent, feeling that Elizabeth's words were full of sarcasm. She also remembered that Brenda was Ethan's daughter and all the schemes against her. Her face immediately turned ugly, distancing herself from Brenda.
Brenda's face changed and she fell silent. She thought, 'Elizabeth, that bitch, she must have said it on purpose.'
Brenda hadn't expected Ethan to be so useless, being driven away by Elizabeth and Stanley. She didn't know what would happen to Ethan next. So, she absolutely couldn't leave Betty and the Clark Family, her strong support.
Elizabeth smirked internally, anticipating the inevitable conflicts between them. "Feel free to stay and work things out. I won't disturb you," she said, turning to leave.
After Betty was temporarily appeased by Brenda, Elizabeth would release those things in her hand. Those would definitely make Betty more uncomfortable than today's events and the truth.
Betty and Brenda would tear each other apart. Their so-called mother-daughter bond would crumble under the weight of truth and betrayal, just as she had planned.
