Chapter 476 Stop Acting in front of Me
Leon's move was a fatal blow. Not only did it crush the factory that Brenda had just saved with the money she took, but it also plunged Brenda's uncle into debt and lawsuits. Moreover, it exposed the disgusting things Brenda's uncle had done, putting Brenda back in the headlines because of her uncle.
Betty, having been in the high society circle for so many years, had her own connections. Moreover, she wasn't short of money now. She hired a private detective to dig up a lot of Brenda's unsavory photos and stories from the past and released them all. She also hired netizens to control public opinion, directing all negative news toward Brenda. She even released photos of Brenda looking old and without makeup, disgusting Brenda's few remaining fans and turning them against her.
Betty didn't stop at merely cutting off all of Brenda's resources in the entertainment industry; she also burdened Brenda with a massive compensation debt. Every advertisement and endorsement Brenda had was tied to strict compensation clauses. Due to the damage to her image, Brenda was held liable for the resulting financial losses, and thus had to pay substantial penalties. This included the script Elizabeth was considering. Not only was Brenda's lead actress contract terminated, but she was also required to pay a hefty penalty for the breach.
Brenda and her uncle's family happily finished their meal. When she got home, she found all her belongings thrown at the door. At first, she was very angry and wanted to go in and scold the servants, but she found the locks had been changed. Then she thought of a possibility, and her heart sank. So she knocked on the door hard, and the servant opened it. Before she could question why her things were thrown out, the servant started scolding her harshly.
Brenda's face turned pale; she hadn't expected Betty to know everything. She had originally planned to come home and coax Betty into going abroad to relax. By the time they returned, the online news would have faded, and Betty wouldn't notice anymore.
Brenda demanded to see Betty but was refused by the servant. The servant even called security to escort Brenda out. As Brenda was forcibly taken out of the apartment, she turned to look at the building she used to live in, her eyes filled with coldness. Betty was simply too ruthless. She had to find a way to get back at her. The key was to find a way to get hold of Betty's assets.
Brenda checked the latest headlines on her phone and was furious. At the same time, she was very anxious, not expecting those things to be exposed. The Anderson family was too cunning to install surveillance in the villa. Why didn't Zephyr just die earlier?
She also regretted not holding back her insults toward Betty in the hallway because of Betty's meanness. Moreover, she suspected that the online exposure of so many things was definitely related to Elizabeth.
Brenda couldn't see Betty for the time being, so she found a nearby hotel to stay in. But when she tried to pay, all her accounts were frozen. Then the police came, saying Betty had accused her of stealing a bank card and making illegal transfers. She was taken away.
Brenda had indeed transferred all the money from Betty's bank card to her own account. She had never thought Betty would be so heartless as to accuse her. She denied stealing the bank card, saying Betty had given it to her willingly. But Betty insisted that Brenda had stolen it. Since Brenda had indeed transferred money using Betty's bank card, she was detained.
Brenda had never expected that Betty, who had pampered her for over a decade, would personally send her to jail. Now she had no money to hire a lawyer and had to find a way to get one. But before she could figure out how to hire a lawyer, several lawyers came to the detention center to see her. To be precise, they came to discuss breach of contract compensation.
Seeing the breach of contract compensation amounting to tens of millions of dollars, Brenda was furious. She couldn't hold back and requested to see Betty.
Betty's health had improved significantly, so she went to the detention center. The mother and daughter sat across from each other, with no warmth left between them. Brenda started crying and admitting her mistakes. "Mom, I was wrong, I really was. I really treated you like my own mother, I..." She knew the evidence exposed online was irrefutable and couldn't be denied. So she planned to admit her mistakes.
Unfortunately, the current Betty hated her the most. So before Brenda could finish, Betty interrupted her coldly, "Stop acting in front of me. I know exactly what kind of person you are now. I want you to live a miserable life for the rest of your days. So don't waste your tears on me; they mean nothing to me now."
Brenda's tearful face stiffened. She began, "Mom, I—"
She was interrupted by Betty again. "Don't call me Mom; it disgusts me. I've already announced to the public that I've severed all ties with you." Then she mocked and scolded Brenda.
Brenda realized that saying anything further was futile. She pursed her lips and looked at Betty. "After all these years, do you really have to treat me like this?"
Betty's response was a sneer, as if she had just heard the most ridiculous joke. "All these years of feelings? Weren't you just acting? Brenda, stop wasting your efforts. I will make sure you go to jail. And when you get out, I'll continue to send you 'gifts.' Just wait and see."
In that moment, Brenda's hatred for Betty deepened. "You're too heartless," she spat.
Betty's sneer only grew colder. "Right back at you," she retorted. She threw a final scornful glance at Brenda before standing up and leaving with an air of arrogance. Betty had come today to make it clear that she would not be deceived again and that she would retaliate, ensuring Brenda would never recover.
Brenda watched Betty leave, hatred burning in her eyes. Determined to fight back, she asked for a phone and called a reporter. She exposed how Betty and Amy had conspired to use Elizabeth's hair for an evil wizard to harm her, and how Betty had poisoned Zephyr, leading to the Anderson family severing ties with her and Paul divorcing her.
These revelations thrust Betty into the spotlight, and she faced severe public backlash. When Betty found out about the expose, her hatred for Brenda intensified. She began plotting to ensure that once Brenda was in jail, she would be dealt with properly. The once close mother and daughter had now become enemies, constantly harming each other.
Later, Brenda couldn't hold back and called the Clark brothers for help. All she got were unanimous rejections and scoldings from them. She also learned from Enrique that they had all contributed to the breach of contract compensation and some of the online exposures. When she got out of jail, they would send her "gifts" too.
Brenda had never expected them to be so ruthless, not caring about past feelings at all. With no one to turn to, she called Loren again.
Loren, having not experienced what the other brothers did, didn't like Brenda's biological parents, who were their enemies, and knew Brenda was insincere toward Betty. But because he was constantly scolded by Betty, he felt that although Brenda was wrong, it was somewhat understandable. After all, even the Clark brothers couldn't stand Betty back then.
Having loved her for so many years, Loren still had some feelings for Brenda. However, he didn't agree to help Brenda, as it would be bad for him if Paul and Betty found out. But he did give Brenda a suggestion. He helped her in a way that wouldn't implicate him or anger his parents.
