Chapter 35

Betty's face darkened at her sons' words. "So, what now? Brenda's been spoiled since she was a kid. She busted her butt learning chores and cooking just to get on this show. It wasn't easy for her."

After thinking for a bit, she suggested, "How about we have them both quit the show?"

That way, they wouldn't have to deal with any more drama or clashes with Elizabeth.

Richard shot down the idea right away, "No way. If they quit now, it'll ruin their reputation."

Plus, it would look like they were giving in to Elizabeth.

He added, "Brenda's always wanted to make it big in the entertainment world. If we make her quit now, it'll crush her."

Betty asked, "So, what do we do then?"

Richard thought for a moment and said, "Mom, why don't you call Elizabeth and ask her to quit?"

Betty was surprised, "You mean ask her to come back?"

Richard nodded, "Yeah, she used to care a lot about your health. Just tell her you're not feeling well and want her to come back. You haven't been sleeping well lately, right? Have her come back and give you a massage. If she quits the show, we'll make it up to her later. After all, she's our sister. We wouldn't treat her unfairly, right?"

He figured he could set up some good opportunities for Elizabeth later.

Enrique chimed in, "If you get her to come back, I can offer her the second lead in my new drama."

The lead role was already promised to Brenda.

Betty found this reasonable, "Alright, I'll give her a call. But didn't they hand in their phones?"

She had been watching the live stream at home these past few days.

Richard replied, "No problem, I'll call Arthur's team and get Elizabeth's current number."

Betty nodded. "Alright then."

Richard quickly got Elizabeth's new number from Arthur's team.

Betty picked up her phone and dialed.

In the yard, Elizabeth was weaving a storage basket.

Hearing her phone ring, she checked the caller ID.

The new phone only showed the number, but she instantly recognized it as Betty's.

In her longing for family affection, she had memorized everyone's numbers.

Elizabeth answered, turned on the recording, and activated the speaker. "Hello!"

Soon, Betty's voice came through, "Elizabeth, it's me."

Elizabeth's voice was cold. "What do you want?"

Betty began, "I haven't been feeling well these past few days, and I haven't been sleeping well. Come back tomorrow."

Elizabeth chuckled, "Come back to cook and massage you?"

Betty paused; that was indeed her intention. But hearing it from Elizabeth's mouth, it sounded different. "I'm not feeling well, so I want you to come back and check on me."

Elizabeth asked, "So you don't miss me; you just need me to come back because you're not feeling well. To you, your biological daughter is just like a maid?"

Betty felt a bit embarrassed.

She had gotten used to Elizabeth's care and concern. Now that Elizabeth wasn't around, she did miss her a bit.

But she wouldn't admit it, as it would seem like she was lowering herself. "How can you talk to me like that?"

She added forcefully, "I'm your mother. If I want you to come back, you do that."

Nancy, who was nearby, frowned upon hearing the voice from the speaker.

Elizabeth asked, "Do you know I'm participating in a show?"

Betty replied, "Of course I know. It's just a show. It doesn't matter if you come back."

Elizabeth said, "Because Brenda isn't doing well on the show, you don't want me to continue."

She hit the nail on the head, "That's why you're calling me, to make me quit."

Betty didn't expect Elizabeth to see through their intentions so clearly. She didn't directly admit it. "I watched the live stream. Brenda performed very well, very excellently. Richard said that if you come back, he will help you find more good opportunities. Enrique said you could play the second female lead in his new drama."

It was as if they were saying, "See how good we are to you."

Elizabeth sneered, "Well, thank you so much. I wouldn't dare take Richard's so-called good opportunities. Who knows how many traps are laid out for me to fall into. I've been tricked before; I won't fall for it again. And in Enrique's new drama, the leading actress is Brenda, right? So you still want me to be her sidekick?"

Betty had her speaker on as well.

Enrique, who had a short temper, couldn't hold back and shouted, "Elizabeth, don't be ungrateful. If it weren't for the fact that you're our biological sister, we wouldn't even bother with you. What's wrong with being Brenda's sidekick? Why do you always have to compete with Brenda? Can't you just be content?"

Nancy's frown deepened upon hearing this. How could anyone say such things?

Helping Brenda by stepping on Elizabeth and expecting Elizabeth to accept it—he must be out of his mind.

Elizabeth coldly laughed, "I am ungrateful. What are you going to do about it? You've already spread the word that I am banned from continuing my career in the entertainment industry, and you did just that. Go ahead and keep banning me. See if I care."

Betty, displeased, said, "Elizabeth, stop being so stubborn. We are family. Come back tomorrow, and we won't hold it against you."

Elizabeth's temper was too much. She had personally called to ask her to come home, giving her an out, and yet she still resisted.

Elizabeth sneered, "Ms. Anderson, let me remind you, I've already cut ties with your entire family. So don't try to guilt-trip me. If you're not feeling well, see a doctor. And if your family has any issues in the future, don't come to me."

With that, she hung up before Betty or anyone else could say another word.

Back at the Clark family house, Betty's face darkened even more as she heard the busy tone.

She tightened her grip on her water cup. "How dare she."

Yet, she couldn't shake a feeling of emptiness inside.

Did Elizabeth not care about her own mother's health anymore?

The four brothers also looked displeased.

"She's becoming more rebellious," Richard squinted. "Then we'll suppress her until she can't rebel anymore."

He didn't believe that with them around, Elizabeth could get any good opportunities in the entertainment industry after this show.

She was forcing them to be ruthless.

Betty also wanted to temper Elizabeth's character. "Fine, she's too disobedient now."
Then she added, "But no matter what, she is still your sister. Don't go too far."

Richard smiled, "Mom, don't worry. We know what we're doing."

If Elizabeth weren't their biological sister, he would have taken extreme measures long ago.

But because she was, he didn't want her to slip out of their control.

---

On the other side.

Nancy looked at Elizabeth with some sympathy. "Your mom and brothers are so overbearing."

Dealing with such family members, she wouldn't be able to stand it either.

No wonder Elizabeth couldn't help but sever ties.

Elizabeth smiled indifferently. "I'm getting used to it."

She couldn't quite understand the Clark family's mindset either.

If they disliked her so much and only cared about Brenda, wanting her not to compete with Brenda, then her severing ties and leaving should have been what they wanted.

Why did they have to keep fixating on her? It was simply insane.

As they were talking, a sudden knock on the door interrupted them.
