Chapter 400 No Further Interactions

Betty's face was looking a lot better, but she still felt super self-conscious. She threw on a hat and mask and had the family driver take her to the hospital.

When she got to the ward door, she knocked, and Linda opened it, giving her a bunch of weird looks. Confused, Betty whispered, "Linda, what's going on? Who's sick?"

Linda pulled her inside, shut the door, and whispered, "Everyone knows about the poison bug thing. Mom, Dad, Leon, and Ruth are still mad. You better apologize properly." Betty nodded, thankful for the heads-up, knowing she couldn't avoid this showdown.

Inside, she saw the whole Anderson clan, along with her three sons, and Elizabeth. The second she locked eyes with Elizabeth, it hit her how the poison bug incident got out. Anger bubbled up—why did Elizabeth always have to mess things up for her? She greeted everyone, "Dad, Mom, Leon, Ruth, Thaddeus," then turned to her sons. "Why are you here?"

Richard answered, "Grandpa asked us to come." They definitely couldn't say it was Elizabeth, or Betty would lose it even more.

Betty then looked at Elizabeth, "And you? Why are you here?" Before Elizabeth could reply, Leon cut in, "I called and invited her."

Betty was thrown off by Leon inviting Elizabeth. She awkwardly asked, "What's going on with you all?" She noticed the cold, accusing looks from her parents, Leon, and Ruth.

Phineas let out a disapproving snort, "You still have the nerve to ask? Come over here and look at this." He pointed to the computer on the table, where Soren was ready to show her something.

Reluctantly, Betty walked over to the screen. As the surveillance videos played, her face twisted with embarrassment and frustration. She didn't need to guess who gathered this damning evidence—Elizabeth. Her parents, Leon, and Ruth's cold stares bore into her.

Of course, Elizabeth was behind this. Betty quickly realized she couldn't pin all the blame on Brenda. With teary eyes, she started to explain, "Yes, I did this, but I had my reasons. Amy poisoned me, causing these awful red spots. Brenda suggested transferring it to Zephyr would be better, as the symptoms would be less severe. This was only temporary. Brenda knows a diviner who promised to come soon to detoxify Zephyr."

Phineas and Maria's disappointment just kept growing. Betty's lack of remorse was making it even worse. Maria asked sternly, "Why didn't you say something earlier? Maybe Zephyr would have agreed to help you, but you chose to harm him instead. Do you think that's right?"

Betty was ready for this. She explained, "I wanted to tell you, but the diviner Brenda found said the target mustn't know about the transfer—or it might fail if they resist. Brenda insisted I keep quiet, fearing you'd blame me. So, I went along with it." She dabbed her eyes with a handkerchief, turning to Zephyr. "I'm sorry. I'll make it up to you. Just bear with it a little longer, and everything will go back to normal."

Zephyr laughed bitterly. "Betty, do you think we're idiots? If it were that simple, why did you need to transfer it to me? I don't need anything from you. You didn't just want to mess up my life, but also my future. What are you thinking? You make it sound like you're helping me. Should I thank you? I can't see you as an elder anymore. Let's just be strangers."

Betty's attitude really disgusted Zephyr. It made it seem like he owed her something. This logic was seriously twisted.

Betty felt a bit embarrassed being contradicted by Zephyr. She shot back, "You're my nephew, and you're making a fuss over helping me a little? I already said I'd get a diviner to detoxify you." She turned to Leon and Ruth. "Leon, Ruth, I get that Zephyr's angry, but as his aunt, isn't he being too harsh?"

Ruth's anger boiled over. "You call yourself his aunt? No aunt would deliberately harm their nephew like this. Transferring the drug makes it worse; if Zephyr isn't detoxified, he won't survive six months, and he'll lose the ability to have kids. You think that's trivial? You venomous woman! Do you have the nerve to act offended? From now on, stop saying that Zephyr no longer recognizes you as an elder. Leon and I won't recognize you as a sister either." She faced Betty with cold fury and declared, "We are severing ties. No further interactions."

Zephyr didn't owe Betty anything. Betty's attitude of taking it for granted was really infuriating and disgusting. If it weren't for Phineas and Maria being present, and if Ruth had ever hit anyone, she would have wanted to slap Betty a few times.

Betty hadn't expected Ruth to say such heartless words. It was simply unreasonable. She looked at Leon and asked, aggrieved, "Leon, what do you think?" She thought, 'My brother can't possibly want to sever ties with me, right? He's always been very fond of me.'
