Chapter 17
Nancy liked Elizabeth quite a bit.
Wanting to change the subject and lighten the mood, she said, "Weren't you going to weave a straw hat? Why don't you teach me? I'll see if I can learn."
Elizabeth nodded. "Sure!" She then patiently showed Nancy how to weave a straw hat using reeds.
Raymond and Ronald exchanged glances, each pulling up a chair to watch them weave.
Meanwhile, the livestream chat was going wild.
Elizabeth was getting attacked by fans of Eugene, Kevin, and Brenda. They thought she was trying to get Eugene and Kevin's attention while bullying Brenda.
But some people defended Elizabeth, saying Kevin was the real bully and Elizabeth was just standing up to him.
Fans of the different parties were arguing fiercely.
Then someone suggested that Kevin and Brenda's interactions were too weird, like they were more than just siblings.
The conversation quickly veered off course, with people gossiping about Brenda and Kevin's relationship, saying they acted more like a couple than siblings.
This was exactly what Elizabeth had intended with her earlier comments. Without her nudging, most people wouldn't have noticed the overly intimate actions between Kevin and Brenda.
With her prompting, the audience started to pick up on Kevin and Brenda's interactions, revealing a lot of issues.
In the kitchen, Brenda pushed through the pain in her hand to finish cooking the last two dishes.
She made four dishes in total, setting aside portions for Arthur's group in exchange for them changing the bed linens.
The rest of the food was shared among the four of them.
After tasting the food, both Kevin and Eugene praised her, which led to a flood of compliments for Brenda in the livestream chat, many of which were from hired commenters.
As night fell, Elizabeth and the others headed back to their rooms.
Elizabeth took the reeds back to her room to keep working on her straw hats.
Nancy initially struggled and wanted to give up, but Elizabeth's patience encouraged her to try again. Slowly, she got the hang of it, even if her pace was slow.
After three hours, she finally finished a straw hat and smiled with satisfaction. She tried it on in front of the mirror, saying, "I'll wear this straw hat out tomorrow. It feels so rewarding to make it myself."
Elizabeth, on the other hand, was much faster. She had already finished two more straw hats and was now weaving a storage basket.
The livestream ended at 8:30 PM and would resume at 7:30 AM the next day.
After washing up, Elizabeth and Nancy were carrying their basins back to their rooms when they ran into Eugene.
With the livestream off, Eugene no longer hid his feelings. He looked at Elizabeth and said, "Elizabeth, I want to talk to you alone."
Elizabeth glanced at him. "I've already said everything I needed to say, so there's nothing more to discuss."
Eugene frowned. "Do you really have to make such a fuss? You misunderstand me; I just want to clear things up."
He wanted to explain that his relationship with Brenda wasn't what Elizabeth thought.
Elizabeth raised an eyebrow. "We're no longer involved, so there's no need for explanations, and I'm not interested in hearing them."
With that, she continued walking with her basin.
Eugene hadn't expected Elizabeth to refuse even a private conversation. He reached out to grab her arm, trying to make her stay, but Elizabeth deftly avoided his hand.
She coldly said, "Eugene, I suggest you watch yourself."
With that, she and Nancy quickly left, clearly wanting to avoid Eugene.
With Nancy present, Eugene couldn't forcefully stop her. He could only watch as Elizabeth walked away without a trace of reluctance.
He felt an unprecedented, indescribable pain and disbelief. Could Elizabeth really want to break up?
At that moment, he suddenly felt a bit panicked.
