Chapter 347 The Important Information Left by Wayne
Room 7 was locked, but there was this stone box built into the wall next to it. Elizabeth opened it up and found two little slots inside. She took Wayne's identity seal and the key, placed them in the slots, and bam, the door opened on its own. She grabbed her stuff and walked in.
Inside, there was this wooden cabinet with a Spellscroll on top. She used the aura from Wayne's seal to merge with the Spellscroll. In no time, the Spellscroll burned up and turned to ash. The cabinet, which had no lock or seams, slowly opened by itself.
Inside the cabinet was a small square wooden box with a Spellscroll on each corner and an ancient lock. Elizabeth took out the box, feeling Wayne's familiar aura. She didn't open it there; she just carried it out.
As she was leaving, the white-haired old man gave the wooden box a look and said, "Once you take this out of the courtyard, it's on you. If you lose it, we're not responsible."
Elizabeth gave him a long look, sensing there was more to his words. She nodded, "Got it!" and carried the box out.
Right after she left, someone knocked on the door of the main hall of the Divination Association. "Master, Elizabeth has the item," they said.
A voice from inside replied, "Wait until she leaves Aevum City, then get it back."
"Understood!"
This wasn't just happening in one section.
On her way out, no one tried to snatch the box. Elizabeth expected this. On Divination Association turf, if someone got robbed of their stored items, who'd trust them again? But once she left Aevum City, it would be a different story.
Back in her room, Elizabeth locked the door and set up a formation to prevent anyone from spying. Only then did she use another key to unlock the wooden box.
She pricked her finger and let a drop of blood fall on each of the four Spellscrolls. The blood merged into the Spellscrolls, which then ignited and turned into blue smoke. The box made a sound and opened on its own.
Inside, there were just two items. On top was an ancient Gemstone Halo, radiating a strong sense of Karma. It was intricately carved with a lifelike miniature winged serpent in the center.
She picked up the Gemstone Halo and examined it closely; it was a top-tier magical artifact. But she felt it was more than just that.
Underneath the Gemstone Halo was a letter. She reached for it, and a Spellscroll attached to the envelope ignited and disappeared as soon as she touched it.
She knew this was Wayne's precaution. It was a verification Spellscroll. Only her presence could keep the letter intact. If anyone else tried to get it, the Spellscroll would burn up, turning the letter to ashes. Plus, the wooden box couldn't be opened without her blood. Any attempt to force it open would destroy the box immediately. So, even if others wanted Wayne's stuff, they couldn't get it.
Elizabeth opened the letter, and tears started streaming down her face. Wayne had foreseen that she would face a life-and-death ordeal, so he used a secret method to create a chance for her survival. The method worked, but he didn't know what that chance would be. Elizabeth had been cursed since birth, and breaking the curse was the key to her freedom. This ordeal, as daunting as it seemed, might be the very opportunity she needed to break free.
He also warned her that the Divination Association wasn't as straightforward as it seemed. It had a righteous side but also a corrupt one, and she should avoid getting too deeply involved. Aevum City was a cage, not a good place for her.
Wayne listed a few names of people she could trust. When she saw two of the names, Elizabeth was surprised.
He also mentioned the Gemstone Halo, saying it was an heirloom from his ancestors. It was said to contain a secret, and unlocking it would be a great opportunity for a diviner.
Wayne had never unlocked the secret himself, but it had attracted unwanted attention. He had been plotted against and attacked several times, leading to his severe injuries. The fact that she had the wooden box meant she had survived the ordeal and gained the ability to protect herself.
He told her to keep the Gemstone Halo safe and left a clue for unlocking it. He emphasized that it could be a chance to change her fate.
The person plotting against her was very powerful, and she should never confront them directly. Unless she became a high-level diviner, she wouldn't stand a chance. If she couldn't reach that level, she should go abroad to stay safe.
Finally, Wayne said he had left her a house in Clifftonshireburg and wrote down the address. He had set up formations in the house, and she should modify them after moving in to help improve her abilities.
He had also stored many good herbs in that house for her. At the end of the letter, he expressed his hope that Elizabeth, his only student, would live a safe and peaceful life.
Elizabeth's tears fell onto the letter, and she cried uncontrollably. Wayne was the person who treated her the best in this world; he was also the only family she acknowledged in her heart. At that moment, the letter ignited and turned to ashes. Clearly, Wayne didn't want anyone else to see or discover the contents of the letter. It turned out Wayne's injuries were due to being plotted against and attacked; she would avenge him.
From the letter, it seemed Wayne knew who was behind the plot against her, but he couldn't write it down or tell her directly. However, he did reveal an important piece of information: that person was already a high-level diviner and was not among the names he listed as trustworthy.
Elizabeth threaded the Gemstone Halo onto a string and hung it around her neck.
At this moment, Brenda left the Divination Association again. She headed alone to the hotel location Larry had just sent her.
