Chapter 30
Brenda felt a twinge of discomfort watching Raymond chow down on pizza. Why was he so nice to Elizabeth but so harsh with her? The more she thought about it, the more annoyed she got. She couldn't make pizza, but she had learned to make sandwiches. So she asked Kevin and Eugene, "You guys want some sandwiches?"
They were out of meat from yesterday, only eggs and veggies left. Kevin, eager to support her, said, "Sure, I love sandwiches." Eugene nodded, "Alright!"
Brenda, always eager to please, said, "I'll whip them up now." Kevin put his arm around her shoulder, "My sister is so talented." Brenda leaned her head against Kevin's chest and rubbed it. "Kevin, just wait and see."
Nancy couldn't help but curl her lips at the sight. The way these so-called siblings acted was way too intimate, more like a couple. She shot them a weird look.
After Brenda finished her little affectionate display with Kevin, she noticed Lisa standing behind them. Normally, she wouldn't bother with Lisa, but in front of the live stream, she had to seem considerate. She smiled and asked, "Lisa, want some too?"
Lisa forced a smile, "Sure." She wanted to say she didn't like eggs, but since Kevin and Eugene wanted them, she knew she'd get scolded if she said otherwise.
Brenda headed to the kitchen to make the sandwiches, washing the veggies and frying the eggs herself. She wanted to show off her skills, so she didn't let the others help. This time, they didn't offer either.
The smell of soup drifted from the yard. Watching Raymond and his crew enjoy their soup and pizza made Eugene and Kevin's stomachs growl. It was clear Elizabeth had made the food, and Raymond's group was reaping the benefits. Eugene felt especially bad, knowing Elizabeth had made it just because Raymond wanted it. But there was nothing they could do now.
Elizabeth and her group finished their breakfast, leaving no trace of the soup and pizza. After eating, the others cleaned up and washed the dishes. Elizabeth didn't rush to help; she didn't want to be like Brenda, trying to do everything to show off.
When Brenda finished making the sandwiches and came out, she saw Elizabeth lounging in the yard. Nancy was tidying up the table, while Ronald and Raymond were washing dishes in the kitchen. They all had their tasks, and even though they seemed inexperienced, they were helping.
For a moment, Brenda felt even more unbalanced. Why was she working so hard, doing everything, while Elizabeth was so relaxed? Her eyes reddened with frustration, and she turned back to the kitchen, full of resentment while the others in her team were unaware of her feelings.
When Brenda finished the sandwiches and they each tried one, they found them hard to swallow. The bread was soggy, and the eggs were poorly cooked and tasteless. Apart from looking decent, they were inedible. They really wished they could have Elizabeth's pizza.
Lisa forced herself to take a bite of the sandwich but quickly put it down. Brenda, already unhappy, saw this and couldn't help but ask, "Lisa, don't you like the sandwich?”
“Sorry, I didn't know you don’t like fried eggs. These are the only ingredients we have, so I had to improvise," Brenda said.
Lisa kept quiet, feeling disgusted by Brenda's hypocrisy. Kevin noticed Brenda's reddened eyes and realized she felt wronged. He turned to Lisa with displeasure and said, "My sister's been busy all morning, so don't be picky. You haven't done anything, so be grateful you have something to eat. Besides, the sandwiches are delicious."
Kevin then grabbed another sandwich and forced himself to finish it, showing his support for Brenda. Now it was Lisa's turn to feel wronged. She hadn't said anything, yet she was being labeled as lazy and picky by this sibling duo. Just as she was about to speak, Eugene chimed in first, "The sandwiches taste great, Brenda. Thanks for your hard work!"
Brenda smiled sweetly and waved her hand, "It's no trouble. I'm happy to serve everyone."
Lisa didn't get a chance to clarify and was instead criticized by Kevin and Brenda's fans in the live stream comments for being pretentious and ungrateful for Brenda's efforts.
Just then, Raymond finished washing the dishes and overheard their conversation. He couldn't suppress a laugh. He glanced at the sandwiches on the table and said, "If they're so good, why have you only eaten a few? Our group was fighting over the pizza earlier."
He smacked his lips, savoring the memory, "I could eat another whole plate of it."
His comment made the audience notice too.
[Eugene says the sandwiches are good, but he only ate two.]
[Kevin ate three, and it looked like he was forcing them down.]
[Brenda herself only ate one.]
[Eugene is definitely different with Brenda, eating so reluctantly but still praising her.]
[It's so awkward to watch.]
[Good food is evident by comparison. Elizabeth's soup and pizza were devoured by her group.]
[Especially Raymond, the pizza looked delicious when he ate it.]
[I was drooling just watching.]
[This group's food doesn't look appetizing at all.]
[It's a bit fake. If it's so good, why not finish it?]
[Ahem, I noticed the vegetables in the sandwich weren't even properly washed.]
Lisa's fans also started to criticize.
[Kevin and Eugene are ganging up on Lisa to defend Brenda.]
[It's too much. They make something inedible and force Lisa to eat it. How ridiculous!]
[Brenda is so hypocritical. Don't think we can't tell.]
In the kitchen, the group eating sandwiches felt a bit embarrassed by Raymond's comments. Lisa suddenly appreciated Raymond's sharp tongue. She wasn't entirely without temper, "I'm already full. If it's so good, you guys can have the rest."
She had liked Kevin and wanted to get close to him, but now she suddenly lost interest. Kevin's unprincipled pampering of his sister would make any relationship with him unbearable.
Brenda's face darkened. What did Raymond mean? Was he saying her cooking wasn't as good as Elizabeth's? She looked at Raymond, her resentment and grievance deepening.
"Raymond, do you dislike me?" Brenda asked.
Why did he always target her? It must be because Elizabeth had badmouthed her to Raymond in private.
Raymond looked at Brenda with bewilderment, "You're not money; why should I like you? Besides, we're different genders. I don't want to come on a show and end up with some scandal. You guys enjoy this delicious food. I'm leaving."
With a look of one afraid of being entangled, Raymond quickly left. Brenda's face turned almost black with anger. Raymond was such an unkind jerk.
