Chapter 22

Raymond's complexion paled slightly, but his eyes lit up with a bright smile. Turning to Elizabeth, he spoke in a slightly hoarse voice, "Thank you!"

Elizabeth returned the smile, replying, "I simply did what I could. It was no big deal."

She had a good impression of Raymond. Besides being one of the few guys who treated Brenda indifferently, he was genuine and straightforward. She hadn't expected him to follow her into the water to save the kids. The reservoir gates hadn't been opened yet, so the kids weren't in immediate danger. His decision to jump in showed he trusted her judgment. He didn't want the kids to be at risk, and he had a soft heart.

Seeing the smiles and conversation between the two, Eugene felt a pang of discomfort and irritation. He had initially wanted to scold Elizabeth for risking her life to save Raymond. If she hadn't managed to save him, she might have died herself. But since it was a live broadcast, he held back. Otherwise, Raymond's fans would definitely curse him, and other viewers would call him cold-hearted. So he stepped forward, looked at Elizabeth with concern, and asked, "Elizabeth, are you okay?"

The smile in Elizabeth's eyes faded a bit. She shook her head at him and said calmly, "Thanks for your concern. I'm fine."

Eugene fell silent, his chest filled with frustration. He wanted to question why Elizabeth had to speak to him in such a distant and cold manner. But because it was a live broadcast, he continued to hold back. Finally, he managed to say, "I'm glad you're okay."

Kevin also wanted to scold Elizabeth for being reckless enough to save Raymond, and meanwhile, he felt a bit jealous. But he held back because of the live broadcast. Seeing Elizabeth's cold attitude towards Eugene, he refrained from stepping forward to speak.

Brenda's stomach twisted with jealousy as she observed that not only had Elizabeth emerged unscathed, but she had also rescued Raymond. This realization meant that Raymond would be indebted to Elizabeth, and the viewers tuning into the live broadcast would likely shift their opinions in her favor. Brenda understood that she would now have to work even harder to distinguish herself from Elizabeth.

After Elizabeth and Raymond regained some strength, they returned to the yard. The live broadcast chat exploded with gratitude, mostly from Raymond's fans.

[Ah, Elizabeth is so brave and cool. I'm her fan now!]

[Thank you, Elizabeth, for saving Raymond. Love you.]

[Thank you, Elizabeth, for saving Raymond. I'm also her fan now.]

[Elizabeth was so cute and so cool just now. I've fallen for her!]

Many of Raymond's fans started to like Elizabeth because of this incident. Other fans and viewers also began to praise her.

[Elizabeth, you're my idol from now on.]

[Love, it must be love. I think I love Elizabeth more than Raymond now.]

[Elizabeth is amazing. She could sense the children were in danger.]

[She really is incredible. She even predicted the exact location of the incident.]

[If it weren't for Elizabeth and Raymond getting into the water early, those two children would have been in danger.]

Kevin, Brenda, and Eugene's fans felt uncomfortable and started to criticize and make sarcastic comments.

[How could it be such a coincidence? I think the show planned this script in advance.]

[I agree. How could she predict it so accurately? I don't believe it.]

[Didn't they say Elizabeth has a sugar daddy? And Raymond comes from a wealthy family. This must be a script arranged just for them.]

[The production team really put a lot of work into making these two popular. Coming up with such a script, impressive!]

These comments left the fans and viewers of other guests stunned.

[Is this how your script works? One wrong move could cost four lives.]

[This is a live broadcast. Were your eyes on top of your head, unable to see anything?]

[Anyone with eyes could see that those thrilling moments weren't staged.]

[Why don't you try acting out this script? If you can pull it off, I'll eat dirt.]

[And why can't a sense of destiny be that powerful?]

[Weren't there several skilled fortune-tellers doing live readings before?]

[Speechless at these extreme fans.]

[How can you say such things about an act of bravery? Do you have no conscience?]

[In the eyes of these extreme fans, all that matters is praising their idols.]

[Kevin, Brenda, and Eugene's extreme fans, enough is enough. Even as a viewer, I can't stand it.]

[Exactly, Elizabeth and Raymond didn't harm their idols, so why are they being targeted?]

[Seeing them now is so annoying. It's making me dislike Kevin, Brenda, and Eugene too.]

[I already disliked them before, and now it's even worse.]

This time, it wasn't just Raymond's fans who disliked Kevin, Brenda, and Eugene. Even Ronald and Nancy's fans and viewers were annoyed by these comments. Naturally, the extreme fans of the three didn't back down and started arguing with fans and viewers from other groups.

Meanwhile, after Elizabeth and Raymond finished their baths and changed clothes, Robert and his brother brought the two children to the yard. They looked at Elizabeth and Raymond with gratitude, "Thank you so much for today."

They even wanted to kneel in thanks, but Elizabeth stopped them in time. "Knowing the children were in danger, we couldn't just stand by and do nothing."

This was the second time she mentioned just doing what she could. Instead of making people dislike her, it made her seem genuine. She wasn't trying to take credit but was truly saving lives.

Robert emphasized gratefully, "No matter what, you are benefactors to both our families."

If Elizabeth hadn't noticed anything wrong with his sense of destiny and rushed to the reservoir in time, or if she hadn't jumped in to save the children in advance, he couldn't imagine what would have happened to the two kids.

Jesse Williams nodded in agreement, "Yes, we owe you a great debt."

Their family only had one son, who was very important to them. If Craig had been swept away and drowned, the family wouldn't have been able to bear it. The two insisted on repaying the favor, asking Elizabeth and Raymond what they wanted, promising to give anything they had.

Their enthusiasm made it hard for Elizabeth to refuse directly. So she said, "How about you treat us to a meal?"

When she saw Robert's sense of destiny, she only thought about saving the children and didn't expect any repayment. Seeing how they felt uneasy without repaying, she suggested a meal.

Robert said, "One meal isn't enough. How about this, during your time filming in the village, you can eat at my house."

Even then, he felt it wasn't enough to repay them. Jesse quickly added, "Come to my house to eat. We'll cover all your meals from now on."

Arthur remained silent. If all the meals were covered, what would be left to watch? But before he could remind them, Elizabeth declined. "There's no need for that."

She suggested, "How about each of your families treats us to one meal?"

The two continued to invite them enthusiastically, saying they should take turns eating at their houses for the rest of the time. Arthur couldn't hold back and interjected, "We're filming a show. They can't keep eating at your houses."
