Chapter 37
The next day.
Elizabeth whipped up some soup and pancakes, while over in another group, Brenda overslept and skipped making breakfast.
They figured they'd grab a bite at the place they were headed to work.
Kevin, who got a shot last night, wasn't throwing up or having diarrhea today.
But he still looked drained, his legs wobbly, and his face pale.
So, Eugene suggested he rest in the yard.
Kevin struggled to get up to see the three off.
He noticed Elizabeth's group enjoying their soup and pancakes.
Raymond and the others were eating with gusto.
Even though Kevin had no appetite, the smell of the soup and pancakes made his stomach growl.
But Elizabeth didn't even glance his way, let alone invite him to join.
This made him feel even worse.
He suddenly remembered Brenda and the others were planning to have breakfast at a villager's house. What about him?
He felt a bit lost and downcast.
Fans watching felt heartbroken for him.
Elizabeth glanced at Kevin and silently cursed him again. He deserved it!
Brenda had gotten used to the love and care from the Clark family's parents and brothers, always taking and never giving.
So naturally, she didn't think about Kevin.
This morning, Brenda probably didn't even consider that while they could have breakfast outside, Kevin would be left hungry.
But Kevin's disappointment had nothing to do with her; she wouldn't worry about him now.
Raymond, seeing Kevin's state, asked, "Kevin, didn't Brenda make breakfast for you?"
He added deliberately, "You were throwing up and having diarrhea all night, even went to the village clinic for a shot, and she didn't make you some soup? She didn't go with you to get the shot last night either, did she?"
Kevin glanced at Raymond, "I didn't have an appetite."
Raymond, getting more annoying by the second, kept poking at Kevin's sore spots.
"Even if you don't have an appetite, you should have some soup to settle your stomach," Raymond said, his tone dripping with sarcasm. "You got sick from Brenda's cooking, and she just left you hanging. You two must have a really deep sibling bond."
Elizabeth had put up with a lot from Brenda when she was with the Clark family. She'd even been scolded by Kevin's fans before.
Now, Raymond was stirring the pot, eager to see how Brenda's caring persona would hold up. He wondered if Kevin's fans would start to see through her act.
Kevin's face tightened.
Raymond's words hit home, making Kevin wonder why Brenda didn't make him some soup. Did she really forget? Or did she just not care?
When he had stomachaches before, Elizabeth would rush over from the other side of the city to make him soup.
No, he couldn't keep comparing.
He shot Raymond a glare. "I said I didn't have an appetite."
Then he quickly left the yard and went back to his room, afraid Raymond would make him feel even worse.
[Kevin looks so pale, and Brenda didn't even prepare food for him.]
[Kevin went to the village clinic for an injection last night, and Brenda didn't go with him.]
[Kevin got sick from eating her food, and she just left him alone. How could she do that?]
[I'm so disappointed in Brenda. Kevin always gives, but she never seems to care about him.]
[Yeah, Kevin spoils her so much, and this is how she repays him? So selfish.]
Kevin's fans, riled up by Raymond's words, felt a wave of dissatisfaction towards Brenda. Seeing Kevin's haggard and pale appearance only made them more heartbroken.
Meanwhile, Brenda and the others went to help a household pack vegetables.
When they arrived at the farmer's house, Brenda and the others asked if they could buy breakfast. The hosts didn't charge them and made breakfast for them.
Eating the surprisingly tasty breakfast, Lisa felt like crying.
In the past, she would have turned her nose up at such an environment and such a meal.
But now, she was just grateful to finally eat some normal food; she was truly afraid of Brenda's cooking.
Her mind raced, and she deliberately looked at Brenda in front of the camera.
"We're out here, and I wonder what Kevin is eating back in the yard," Lisa said. "Should we ask the host to make something and send it to him?"
Hearing this, Brenda finally realized she had forgotten to prepare breakfast for Kevin.
At home, there were always servants to handle meals, and she was exhausted yesterday and overslept this morning.
She was only thinking about how to perform well at work today and neglected Kevin.
She silently cursed Lisa for being nosy.
But outwardly, she put on a knowing look and said, "When Kevin has had vomiting and diarrhea at home before, he wouldn't eat anything the next morning. If he eats, he'll just throw up again. No need to send breakfast; if he eats and continues to vomit, he'll feel worse. I'll ask the host to make some soup for him at noon and send it over."
This was naturally an excuse to cover up her forgetfulness.
Otherwise, she might be scolded by Kevin's fans watching the live stream.
Lisa didn't quite believe her but didn't press further. "Alright."
In the yard.
Elizabeth and the others had arranged to help a villager with some work today.
After finishing breakfast and tidying up, they were ready to leave.
As Elizabeth was leaving, she suggested to Arthur, "Kevin can't go without food in his condition. You should prepare some food for him."
She wasn't concerned about Kevin but wanted to create a contrast with Brenda.
With Brenda's personality, if someone brought up breakfast, she would definitely make excuses, saying Kevin would vomit if he ate. Then Elizabeth would expose Brenda's lie.
Arthur didn't dare let Kevin, the most popular star, have any issues. "Alright," he said.
He then arranged for an assistant to make soup.
When the soup was ready, Arthur's assistant brought it to Kevin's room.
Kevin, feeling both uncomfortable and hungry, took the soup and ate it.
He ate two small bowls and didn't continue vomiting or having diarrhea.
The assistant mentioned that it was Elizabeth who suggested making the soup before she left.
Kevin didn't know what to feel at that moment. It turned out that when he was feeling unwell, he still longed for someone to care for him. He couldn't help but feel a glimmer of hope.
Did Elizabeth have him in her heart as her brother when she asked the crew to make soup for him?
After finishing the soup, Kevin took his medicine and fell into a deep sleep, no longer vomiting or having diarrhea.
This also made the live-stream audience have an even worse impression of Brenda, who had clearly forgotten to make soup for Kevin and care for his health.
To cover up, she refused Lisa's suggestion to send breakfast, despite Kevin spoiling her so much.
Seeing Kevin's state, he was obviously hungry; otherwise, he wouldn't have had two bowls.
Moreover, after eating, he didn't have any adverse reactions; instead, he was able to take his medicine.
Kevin's fans liked Brenda much less and began to dislike her actions.
Her care for Kevin was not even as good as Elizabeth, who had always been at odds with Kevin.
Not only did Kevin's fans feel more dissatisfied with Brenda, but they also vented their frustration in the comments.
Betty, watching the live stream, also felt a rare sense of dissatisfaction with Brenda, especially with the comparison to Elizabeth and reading the comments.
She couldn't help but wonder, ‘is this the difference between a biological sister like Elizabeth and an adopted sister like Brenda?’
