Chapter 442 Let's Clear Everything Up

But Amy was in for a letdown.

Orlando shot her a stern look, his eyes cold. "You think I'd joke about the company's heir?"

Amy, still in shock, couldn't help but shout, "Are you nuts? The heir to Baker Corporation is obviously Percy. He's your firstborn and has been with the company for so long. Rebecca's just a girl. This is ridiculous."

Rebecca, standing nearby, snapped back, "Like you're not a woman yourself," finding Amy's argument absurd.

Orlando, frustrated, said, "Why can't Rebecca inherit the company? I believe she's got what it takes. If she can win over the shareholders and execs, she can be the chairwoman."

To him, it didn't matter if it was a son or daughter taking over. Whoever had the chops should lead; ability was what counted.

Amy was about to lose it. She yelled, "How can you do this? The Baker Corporation is clearly Percy's."

Then she eyed Orlando suspiciously and asked, "Did Rebecca get Elizabeth to cast a spell on you? To mess with your head?" She was convinced of it.

Rebecca sneered. "I'm not like you. Elizabeth would never do that."

Amy glared at Rebecca. "Shut up." Then she turned to Orlando, fuming. "Explain yourself! Today, I want answers."

Before Orlando could respond, Percy chimed in, "Mom, why would Dad hand over the Baker Family's legacy to an outsider?"

He knew Orlando didn't care if the heir was a son or daughter, but he did care if they were Baker blood. Plus, ever since he found out he was an illegitimate child and a medium for Generational Blessings, he never thought about fighting for the Baker assets.

Amy's eyes widened, panic setting in. She stammered, "What nonsense are you talking about?"

Percy sighed. "Mom, do you really think everyone here is clueless? Everyone knows I'm not Dad's biological son. So what makes you think an illegitimate child from your affair can shamelessly fight for the Baker Corporation?" He despised Ethan and wasn't too fond of Amy either.

Amy's eyes widened. "This can't be true." She looked at the people around her. Their faces were calm, showing no surprise. She was stunned. How did they all know?

No wonder Orlando's attitude changed; he found out about her affair and the illegitimate child. She thought for a moment, then looked at Orlando with a mix of hurt and pain. She sobbed, "Orlando, I was forced." She couldn't admit she had a lover. She had to make up a story about being forced, which led to Percy.

Orlando raised an eyebrow. "Amy, do you still think I'm a fool?"

Amy was about to speak, thinking she had to win back Orlando's heart. Just then, the butler brought in people from a special department. The leader was Alaric, the deputy minister.

Elizabeth, being part of the special department and the victim, also came along.

Orlando saw the group and stood up. He had met Alaric before. He greeted, "Hello, Mr. Voss!"

Alaric smiled. "Hello, Mr. Baker! We have a serious case involving Mrs. Baker. The evidence is solid, so we're here to arrest her today." Then he pulled out the arrest warrant.

Orlando took the warrant and glanced at it. He replied calmly, "You're just doing your job. I have no objections."

Seeing Elizabeth and the others arrive, Amy felt uneasy. Shocked by their conversation, she turned to Orlando. "What are you saying?" she asked.

Orlando looked at Amy with eyes that had lost all their former warmth, now cold as ice. He replied, "I said you broke the law and should face the consequences."

Amy took a couple of steps back, her eyes wide with desperation. "You... you're abandoning me? I didn't break the law. They're framing me. Orlando, I can explain about Percy."

She stepped forward, reaching out to grasp Orlando's hand. She pleaded, "Please, don't let them take me away, okay?"

Orlando shook her hand off with a cold, dismissive gesture. He replied, "Didn't you hear what the special department said? They have solid evidence. Amy, I don't have the power to save you. And even if I did, I wouldn't."

Amy's voice wavered, a mix of confusion and hurt. "I'm your wife! If I end up in jail, it'll hurt your reputation too."

Orlando raised an eyebrow, his expression one of disdain. "You've already lost your dignity. Why should I care about mine?"

Amy was stunned. Was he out of his mind today? She cried and looked at him, pleading for the first time. "Orlando, for the sake of our many years together, you have to help me."

Her voice trembled as she spoke, fully aware of the gravity of the situation. The special department had come to arrest her personally; if Orlando didn't help her, she might really go to jail.

Orlando laughed coldly, his eyes narrowing with contempt. "Many years together? Do you even believe that yourself? Amy, your shamelessness knows no bounds. The one you've loved for many years should be your lover, right? You love him so much, and he's so capable. Let him save you."

Amy's face fell immediately, her lips trembling with panic. She stammered, "I... I don't know what you're talking about. Did someone tell you something? I don't have any lover."

Orlando snapped, "Stop pretending. I don't want to act anymore. Let's clear everything up today. I never loved you. The reason I played along for so many years was for the Baker Family and to deal with the man behind you. And you were wrong earlier. We never got married, so what right do you have to call yourself my wife?"

He declared, his eyes filled with coldness. "I now declare that we are officially breaking up. From now on, you have nothing to do with me and will never be allowed back into the Baker Mansion."

It was only for the sake of Eugene and Rebecca that Orlando didn't say anything too harsh.

Amy's eyes widened, asking in disbelief, "What do you mean? We never got married? I clearly saw our marriage documents."

Orlando looked at her, smirking. "What marriage documents? You must have imagined that. We never went to get marriage documents, never held a wedding. We're not a couple. We're just cohabiting, so we can break up anytime."

Amy's eyes widened as realization dawned on her. She trembled. "You... you were calculating against me from the beginning?"

Memories flooded her mind—how there were always issues when they tried to get the marriage documents, and how Orlando had insisted he would handle everything without her needing to be involved. Later, he kept finding excuses to delay the wedding.

But she still couldn't believe it. Orlando had loved her for so many years. How could he suddenly become so cruel?
