Chapter 218 Are They Trustworthy?

Rebecca had celebrated Hubert's birthday a few times, so she knew.

Elizabeth asked, "Do you know Hubert's exact birth time? If I knew, I could calculate it."

Rebecca shook her head. "I don't know the exact time. Should I ask him?" she inquired.

Although Rebecca had decided not to love Hubert anymore, she couldn't just watch him get hurt. Anyway, she had warned him. If Hubert didn't listen, his life or death was his responsibility and had nothing to do with her.

Elizabeth nodded and replied, "Ask him, and while you're at it, see if he knows about Angela's issues."

Rebecca then called Hubert.

Meanwhile, Hubert and Eugene were drinking and complaining. Richard was watching from the side, occasionally chiming in.

Hubert's phone suddenly rang. He picked it up, and his eyes instantly lit up. He answered, his voice unusually gentle, "Rebecca!"

This made Richard teased, "That gave me goosebumps."

Eugene was also speechless. "Me too."

Hubert ignored the two and spoke even more gently, "Do you need something?" Since Rebecca had returned to the country, this was the first time she had called him.Rebecca, feeling awkward, shivered slightly at Hubert's unusually gentle tone. She rubbed her arms and said bluntly, "Can you please speak normally? Your tone is grossing me out."

Hubert fell silent for a moment.

Then, in his usual voice, he repeated, "Rebecca, is there something you need?"

Rebecca asked, "Are you in a good spot to talk right now?"

Hubert responded with a question of his own, "What would you consider a good spot to talk? I'm at a bar with two other people around me. Does that count?"

"That definitely does not count," Rebecca said decisively.

"Hold on a second!"

She turned to Elizabeth and asked, "Since he's at a bar, should we avoid talking now?"

Elizabeth thought for a moment and suggested, "Maybe you should have him come over to our place."

She had set up various security measures in the apartment, including wards against intrusion and recording devices. Talking here would be completely secure.

Rebecca gave Elizabeth a thumbs-up and then spoke to Hubert, "Elizabeth and I need to discuss something with you. Do you have time right now?"

Hubert replied, "I'm free."

He added with a hint of enthusiasm, "No matter when you need me, I'm available."

Rebecca rolled her eyes. "Cut out the small talk."

Hubert, with a hint of indulgence in his voice, said, "Alright, I'll follow your lead."

Rebecca sighed in exasperation, "Hubert, you're being so annoying right now."

Hubert went quiet again.

Not wanting to waste time, Rebecca said, "If you're free, just come over to where we're staying now."

Without hesitation, Hubert agreed, "Sure thing!"

After hanging up, Rebecca remembered she had blocked Hubert's number. She quickly unblocked him and sent over the apartment address.

Hubert boasted to Eugene, "Rebecca asked me to go see her. Eugene, you'll have to drink alone from now on."

Eugene asked doubtfully, "Rebecca asked you to see her this late? Alone?"

Eugene thought, 'Rebecca's personality is somewhat like Elizabeth's, decisive. She has already dumped Hubert; will she ask to meet him alone? It doesn't seem likely.'

Hubert then replied, "Elizabeth is there too. But Rebecca asking me is a good start."

Eugene perked up and chimed in, "Elizabeth is there? Then I'll go with you."

Hubert looked at him strangely, "Rebecca asked me over for something. Why are you coming? To annoy Elizabeth on purpose? Don't drag me down!"

Eugene's face darkened. "Shut up. You go handle your business. I'll accompany you. What's the big deal?" he replied.

Richard also said, "I'll go with you guys." He had nothing to do and wanted to see the drama.

Hubert was speechless. "You two need to stop. I'm going for serious business."

Eugene and Richard said, "We'll go with you for serious business."

Hubert ignored them, and he stood up, "You guys keep drinking, it's on me." With that, he started to leave.

Eugene stood up and insisted, "Do I look like I need your money? I'd rather go with you."

Richard also stood up and chimed in, "I'll pay the bill. Let's go."

Hubert asked, "Are you serious?"

Eugene and Richard both nodded, "Yeah."

Richard paid the bill. Then, the two followed Hubert out.

After getting a cab, the two quickly got in after Hubert.

For the first time, Hubert realized how shameless these two were. He knew he couldn't shake them off, so he messaged Rebecca.

Hubert: [Eugene and Richard are tagging along. What should I do?]

Rebecca saw the message and was speechless. She thought, 'Since when does Eugene become so shameless?'

Rebecca turned to Elizabeth. "Eugene and Richard are sticking to Hubert and want to come along. What should we do? Let them come? Or have Hubert come another time?" she inquired.

Rebecca didn't mind the other two coming. But she was worried Elizabeth might, as they were the two people Elizabeth least wanted to deal with.

Elizabeth thought for a moment and agreed. "Let them come." She could ignore Eugene, but she had a question that needed someone from the Clark family to answer, and Richard was perfect for that.

Rebecca nodded. "Okay!" Then she messaged Hubert.

Rebecca: [Whatever.]

Hubert breathed a sigh of relief.

Hubert: [Rebecca, you're the best!]

Rebecca was really not used to this new, clingy Hubert. If Hubert had treated her this well earlier, they might have been together and not ended up like this. But it was too late for him to change her mind now.

Rebecca: [Stop making me sick.]

Hubert's eyes dimmed at her words. He told Eugene and Richard. "You can come if you want."

Eugene was delighted. "Elizabeth agreed to let us come?"

Hubert glanced at him and reminded coldly, "Don't get too excited. I doubt Elizabeth will be nice to you."

Richard agreed. "I think so, too."

Eugene's face darkened. "Get lost."

When the three arrived, they were let in because Elizabeth had informed security.

At the door, they saw it was open. Hubert still knocked, "Rebecca?" he called out softly.

Rebecca's voice came from inside. "Come in. There are shoe covers on the shoe rack. Put them on."

Hubert smiled. "Okay!"

The three put on the shoe covers and closed the door. They saw Elizabeth and Rebecca sitting on the couch, playing on their phones.

Elizabeth looked up and said calmly, "Have a seat. Do you want something to drink?"

Hubert answered, "Water is fine."

Elizabeth nodded, got up, poured three glasses of water, and placed them on the table.

Then she looked at Hubert and said seriously, "We need to talk to you about Angela. Can your two friends hear this? Are they trustworthy?"

Eugene and Richard felt uncomfortable. To Elizabeth, they were just Hubert's friends. And she even doubted their reliability.
