Chapter 121 Psychological Suggestion
Brenda had always made a point to get close to her brothers, making them spoil and coddle her. She treated them like her possessions. But when Richard called her out, she couldn't handle it.
She cried, "I didn't, Richard. Don't listen to those rumors. We're siblings!"
Richard laughed. "Siblings? Then why do you always want to hug and cuddle with me? What sister does that unless they're committing incest?"
Hubert's words had made Richard see their relationship differently.
Brenda was shocked. "Richard, how could you say that? We've always been like this since we were kids. I just rely on you. How can you think of me like that?"
Richard, already in pain and irritated, had no patience left. "Brenda, don't take me for a fool. Eugene and Hubert see it too. If you want to sleep with me, just say it. We're not real siblings."
He pinched her face. "You always want to hug me when you come into my room. Just be honest. But I'm not in the mood now. If you want to be my girlfriend, I don't mind. Just be as obedient as before."
To him, Brenda was just a plaything, whether as a sister or a girlfriend. He wasn't into the whole love thing like Eugene and Hubert.
"But you have to behave," he added.
Brenda was stunned by Richard's true nature. He didn't respect her at all, treating her like she just wanted to sleep with him.
She cried, "Richard, you're too much. I'm not that kind of woman. I don't want to talk to you anymore."
She pushed him and ran off crying. Richard winced in pain from the push.
"She's so pretentious," he muttered.
He used to find her dependence interesting, but now it was just annoying. If she kept this up, he wouldn't even want her as a girlfriend.
He didn't chase after her like he used to. Instead, he closed his door. He figured she probably ran to one of his brothers or maybe Loren.
He didn't care. He wasn't going to remind his brothers either. If he had to deal with Elizabeth's scolding, they should too.
As for sleeping with Brenda, he wasn't joking. If she dared, he would. Shame? He never had any.
He wasn't about to ask Charles to change the script. He wouldn't go to that length.
Just then, his phone rang. It was Hubert.
He answered sarcastically, "Didn't you say not to contact me anymore?"
Hubert's cold voice came through. "Just wanted to ask, does the place where you were hit still hurt?"
Richard had been in pain all night, and Angela had just come to him crying about her face hurting more and more. Now he believed it and was suspicious, so he called Richard.
Richard was stunned. "You're still in pain too?"
He asked, "Did you get checked out and find nothing wrong, but it still hurts and you can't sleep?"
Hubert was silent for a moment. "Yeah, exactly."
He added, "We must be cursed by Elizabeth. Rebecca wouldn't know about this stuff."
Richard said, "I thought the same."
Hubert said, "Then you need to ask Elizabeth what it'll take to lift this curse."
"Why me? Can't you ask Rebecca?"
Hubert said, "Elizabeth is your sister, not mine. Rebecca doesn't know about this stuff either. With your skills, you can solve it. You don't want to keep hurting, right? Looking forward to your good news."
Then he hung up.
Hearing the busy tone, Richard wanted to curse Hubert.
But he couldn't take the pain anymore.
He used a servant's phone to call Elizabeth.
Elizabeth answered, "Hello!"
As soon as the call connected, Richard hit the record button. This was Elizabeth's favorite trick; now it was his turn.
He asked, "Elizabeth, what do you want? We've been in pain all night from your beating. What do you want to lift it?"
He added, "Hubert said, whatever conditions you have, just name them, we'll meet them."
Elizabeth knew this didn't sound like Richard. She guessed he was recording.
"Did you dial the wrong number? When did I beat you? If you're sick, go to the hospital. I suggest you see a psychiatrist."
Then she hung up.
Whether Richard was recording or not, she wouldn't admit to beating them over the phone. She wasn't stupid enough to hand over evidence.
Richard smashed the phone in his hand. "Elizabeth, you're really something."
He was played by Elizabeth again, and she even had mocked them for being crazy.
Then he used his own phone to call Hubert.
"Elizabeth said, she suggests you see a psychiatrist."
Hubert replied, "She was talking about you. Richard, I actually think your mental state hasn't been normal lately. Why don't you go see someone? If you can stop the pain through psychological suggestion, let me know."
Richard was silent. "We're done."
This time he hung up first.
These bastards, not one of them could be relied on.
After venting his anger, his chest hurt even more.
He went back to lie on the bed, thinking Hubert might have a point.
So he made an appointment with a psychologist, planning to try psychological suggestion.
If that didn't work, he'd have to find Paul and ask the Clark Group's resident psychic for help.
