Chapter 429 It's Time to Cut It Off
Eugene shot Elizabeth a troubled look. "Elizabeth, I'm really sorry about my mom. I apologize on her behalf."
Elizabeth, spotting the group of guys who were pros at dodging blame, turned her icy stare to Eugene. "Your mom invited Aaron to hurt me. Your apology means nothing. Your family better brace themselves."
Earlier in the tent, Rebecca had suggested Amy should face the music. The law's the law; who knows what else Amy might pull if she gets away with this.
Eugene looked embarrassed and nodded. "What my mom did was wrong. We won't fight whatever punishment she gets."
Amy's actions were way out of line and broke the Special Department's rules.
Amy probably didn't even think about the consequences. She likely just assumed Orlando wouldn't leave her.
Elizabeth nodded. "Alright, that's settled. You all just keep dealing with it, maybe you'll learn something." She turned and headed back to the tent.
Eugene stared at Elizabeth's back, feeling the gap between them widen even more. He felt a bitter sense of helplessness.
Hubert patted Eugene's shoulder. "Eugene, with what your mom did, you and Elizabeth are done."
Eugene snapped back. "I don't need your commentary."
He already knew this, which made it even harder. "You guys sold me out so fast before. I won't forget that."
Hubert rubbed his nose and muttered, "Eugene, we're really pissed about what happened today. We know it's not your fault, but since your mom tried to hurt us, we took it out on you a bit. But between friends, once the anger passes, it's all good. Before, we were just joking with Elizabeth to lighten the mood."
Blaming Eugene wasn't about hurting him. Elizabeth said she wouldn't help them, so no amount of begging would work. Hubert wanted to emphasize it was Amy's doing, not Eugene's.
Hubert added, "But your mom really crossed the line. She didn't care about our lives, and knowing you and Rebecca were here, she still invited that evil wizard. In her mind, your lives don't matter. If it were me, I'd cut ties with her like Elizabeth did. It's pointless."
He was furious just thinking about it. Amy didn't even care about Rebecca's safety. How could she be fit to be a mother?
Richard pushed Hubert and shot him a cold glance. "Do you even know how to talk? Just talk about your own stuff, don't make random comparisons."
Hubert was always scheming and liked to say things that made them uncomfortable. But when it came to urging Eugene to cut ties with Amy, Richard agreed with Hubert.
Richard turned to Eugene, "Eugene, I think you should cut ties if you need to."
Eugene took a deep breath. "I know!" He turned and walked away.
The other four didn't dare bother Elizabeth anymore and went back to their spot, resigned to their bad luck. They played cards to pass the time and cursed Amy together.
The Clark brothers even planned to call Paul first thing in the morning to complain. Amy was too much, first targeting Betty, then Elizabeth, and then not even sparing them. If Elizabeth hadn't shown up in time, they'd be done for.
Although Paul didn't pay much attention to the Clark brothers' business, he was very concerned about their safety. He would take real action, unlike Betty, who just talked. Today's incident wouldn't be let go, not by Elizabeth, nor by the Clark family.
Early the next morning, just as the sun was rising, people from the Special Department arrived on the mountain and took Aaron away.
Elizabeth had sent the video evidence to Alaric the night before, showing Aaron's dirty deeds and Amy pulling the strings. She demanded the Special Department give her an explanation.
Raymond and the others also got their families to put pressure on the Special Department, making sure Amy couldn't slip away.
Elizabeth wasn't as worried about Ethan anymore, so she decided it was time to deal with Amy.
When the Special Department took Aaron away, he actually felt a bit relieved. His body ached from the beating he got last night, and he both hated and feared Elizabeth now. He thought to himself that once he got his venomous insects back, he'd stay far away from her.
After the Special Department folks left, Elizabeth checked the other tents. Once she confirmed everyone was okay, she called Raymond and the others to head down the mountain together.
After last night's drama, no one felt like sticking around. They went back to the small town to rest for the night and then headed back to Clifftonshireburg the next day.
The little Aether Serpent was still wrapped around Elizabeth's wrist, looking like a ruby bracelet. At the airport, Elizabeth used her energy to cloak the serpent, so the machines didn't pick up on it being alive. They got back to Clifftonshireburg without a hitch.
After getting off the plane, Rebecca asked Elizabeth to send her the video and then went straight back to the Baker Villa.
Elizabeth, on the other hand, took the little Aether Serpent to the house Wayne had left her in Clifftonshireburg. It was a courtyard she had visited before, tastefully arranged and designed so only she could enter. The layout was such that if others tried to force their way in, they would get lost and be unable to enter at all.
Elizabeth didn't dismantle the formation and kept using it for protection. Thanks to the formation's automatic purification function, the place stayed clean and tidy despite being empty for so long.
One of the rooms in the courtyard was locked, and only she could open it. Inside were several storage cabinets filled with ancient artifacts and high-quality medicinal herbs.
Elizabeth realized that keeping the energy stones she brought back from Shadow Peak in her apartment wasn't safe, even with a protective formation. While absorbing the energy stones could help her level up, it would mess with her chances of becoming a high-level peak diviner. From her experience, reaching the second-tier peak required personal insight and growth; energy stones were just aids.
Despite this, top diviners fought over these stones because advancing to the third-tier peak was super tough, and doing so could extend one's lifespan by a hundred years, making it worth the effort.
Besides the energy stones, Elizabeth also brought back rare medicinal herbs that were no longer available outside. These herbs were invaluable for making medicines to boost strength and extend lifespan, making them highly sought after by top-tier diviners.
Plus, her apartment wasn't a great environment for the little Aether Serpent. Elizabeth planned to set up an energy-gathering formation in her courtyard, which would benefit both her and the serpent.
Coincidentally, Rebecca had been so focused on her studio work that she found her apartment inconvenient due to its distance. With her busy schedule, she was often not at home. Rebecca decided to move into the apartment provided by the studio, which was next door to Shirley and the others, making it easier to coordinate meals and other activities. As a result, Elizabeth planned to move into Rebecca's former apartment within the next couple of days.
Meanwhile, not only did Rebecca return to the Baker Villa, but Eugene, who arrived in Clifftonshireburg half an hour later, also went straight to the Baker Villa.
