Chapter 248 What Do You Want to Know?
Darlene clammed up, her face icy, as she plopped down nearby. Nicholas trailed after her, telling his assistant to grab some anti-inflammatory meds. He kept trying to soothe Darlene with sweet talk.
Meanwhile, Nicole shot Hannah a meaningful look. Watching Hannah smack Darlene earlier gave her a twisted sense of joy. Still, she kept it low-key and found a seat.
For those who were clueless about the whole real vs. fake heiress drama, one would never have guessed Nicole was the true Spellscroll daughter.
Elizabeth had been watching the whole scene unfold. She saw that Hannah was as fiery as destiny hinted. Elizabeth liked that Hannah stood up for herself right then and there. Now, the bad vibes around Hannah were gone. Looked like she wouldn't fall for Darlene's tricks anymore.
What threw Elizabeth for a loop was Darlene. Nicholas was still trying to comfort her, but Darlene looked bored and ignored him, acting all high and mighty. It was clear Darlene was calling the shots.
Nicholas's attempts to calm Darlene seemed more like sucking up than real care.
Plus, Darlene's vibe was totally different from Brenda and Angela's.
If it had been those two in today's mess, they'd be bawling their eyes out, playing the victim card hard.
But Darlene? She only screamed a bit when she got hit, didn't shed a tear. After it was over, she fixed her hair and clothes, looking cool as a cucumber. She even had the nerve to play mind games, trying to mess with the folks Matthew brought. Knowing there was no making up after today's showdown, she straight-up threatened Hannah.
This showed Darlene and Brenda were on different tracks. Brenda was like a fragile wisteria, needing support. Darlene was more like a carnivorous plant, tough and fierce.
Elizabeth also noticed Nicholas's Generational Blessings were almost tapped out. Unlike Enrique, who got his blessings swindled by Brenda, Darlene had straight-up taken them.
At that moment, everything clicked for Elizabeth.
Darlene didn't just want Nicholas and the Spellscroll family's blessings; she was gunning for the whole Spellscroll family and their company. No wonder Nicholas didn't seem all that lucky.
According to destiny, without Darlene's meddling, Nicholas would just be a rich kid who liked to party, with no real skills.
The Spellscroll Group wouldn't have climbed to be the second-biggest jewelry company after the Ingram Group; it would've stayed a third-rate player.
He wouldn't have become super rich or joined the elite circles, but he'd have lived comfortably.
Now, with Darlene, the Spellscroll family looked successful on the surface, but it was actually a ticking time bomb.
Elizabeth saw through the act and got Darlene's real game. By tightening her grip on the Spellscroll Group, Darlene's true aim was to control those precious, legit gemstone sources. Over time, as the Spellscroll Group's power grew, Darlene would be in the perfect spot to keep siphoning off these valuable resources.
And it wouldn't catch the eye of the Divination Association and special departments.
Elizabeth had to admit, the mastermind behind Darlene and the others had a grand plan and a lot of patience.
Then, Elizabeth noticed Darlene staring at her. She looked up and caught the nasty look in Darlene's eyes.
Elizabeth raised an eyebrow. Oh, so now Darlene had beef with her too? Figures she'd want to take out the person who messed up her plans. With a cool, steady stare, Elizabeth made Darlene look away, momentarily rattled.
Darlene had only heard that someone broke the evil spell on Rex. Curious about the divination master Matthew had hired, she came to check things out early. She hadn't expected it to be Elizabeth, the rising star actress.
Since Elizabeth had wrecked her plans, Darlene naturally wouldn't let her off easy. Once they hit the border, who'd even notice a couple of disappearances? Elizabeth might be a celeb, but that didn't make her untouchable in the shadows.
Sitting behind Darlene, Nicole also glanced at Elizabeth with a mix of confusion and hesitation.
But when Elizabeth looked over, Nicole quickly hid her emotions and lowered her head, which only made Elizabeth more curious about her.
In the waiting lounge, no one said a word.
After boarding, Elizabeth and Raymond sat together.
Midway through the flight, Elizabeth got up to hit the restroom.
The one at the front was occupied, so she headed to the one in the back near economy class.
A moment later, Nicole clutched her stomach. She got up, checked the front restroom, found it occupied, and, looking desperate, headed toward the economy-class restroom.
No one in their group paid any attention.
When Nicole reached the restroom door, Elizabeth had just opened it. She wasn't too surprised to see Nicole. She asked, "Need to come in?"
Nicole looked stunned for a second, then nodded. "Yeah!" She squeezed into the restroom and shut the door behind her.
Because there was a curtain separating business class from economy, Darlene and the others couldn't see the two of them crammed into one restroom.
Nicole spoke first, "Elizabeth, right? Can you stay out of the Spellscroll family's business for now?" That was her reason for seeking out Elizabeth.
Elizabeth raised an eyebrow and asked, "Why should I?"
Nicole pressed her lips together, staying silent.
Elizabeth continued, "Do you know your Generational Blessings are tied to Darlene? Why are you willingly giving her your blessings? Let me guess, you handed them over, which is why she's got such a knack for appraising gems."
She added meaningfully, "You wouldn't be doing all this just because Darlene used to have your back in school and social circles, would you?"
Nicole was stunned, her eyes narrowing. "You've been digging into us?"
Elizabeth didn't deny it. "It involves the Ingram family, so I looked into it a bit more." Before coming, she had indeed asked the private detective Rebecca knew to investigate the Spellscroll family.
She found out that when Nicole first returned to the Spellscroll family, her biological parents and Nicholas looked down on her because of her past poverty and habits.
The Spellscroll family treated Nicole coldly and even neglected her, treating her much worse than Darlene.
Initially, Nicole resisted and even targeted Darlene. But Darlene was crafty and manipulative, leaving Nicole to take the fall and gain a bad rep.
Moreover, the ones who suppressed Nicole the most were her own family members.
Nicole had rebelled and even ran away for a while. When the Spellscroll family found her again, she had changed. She no longer opposed Darlene and often followed her, becoming more low-key.
This drastic change hinted at a deeper reason, likely tied to the Generational Blessings.
Nicole stared at Elizabeth, biting her lip. "What do you want to know?" she whispered.
