Chapter 485 Can You Have One Last Meal with Me?
Hubert still couldn't believe it and kept shaking his head in disbelief.
Richard, scrolling through his phone, looked up and said, "Elizabeth is telling the truth. Rebecca and her new boyfriend were caught kissing on the beach, and it's already made the headlines."
He handed his phone to Hubert and continued, "It's not just the beach kiss; there are a bunch of intimate photos of them together. The timeline of these photos goes back a month. So, a month ago, Rebecca already had a new boyfriend and was head over heels for him."
Richard glanced at Hubert and added, "Hubert, you were a bit self-righteous before. Rebecca doesn't care about what's going on between you and Angela. It's not because of your changed attitude toward Angela in the past ten days that she found a new boyfriend on a whim. Elizabeth’s character wouldn’t allow her to lie, and as Rebecca's best friend, she certainly wouldn't put on an act for you."
Hubert kept flipping through the photos. There were pictures of a man holding Rebecca, Rebecca holding his arm, and the two of them kissing. It was clear that Rebecca wasn't faking it. When she was with her new boyfriend, she was genuinely happy. Hubert knew Rebecca very well, and that was why he felt heartbroken to the point of suffocation. He gripped the phone tightly and muttered, "She's so heartless; she didn't even give me a chance to make amends."
He truly never thought that Rebecca would one day really leave him and fall into another man's arms. He now wished he could pull her out of her new boyfriend's arms and hold her in his own.
Eugene, feeling the same way, said, "Yeah, they didn't even give us a chance to make amends."
Richard, shaking his head in disbelief, retorted, "Isn't that your own fault? If you weren't such jerks, why would they switch partners?"
He sneered, "I'm not like you guys; I don't hide my bad side, and I know I'm bad. You guys are bad without even realizing it, which makes you worse. No wonder you got dumped."
Hubert and Eugene fell silent. They both glared at Richard, "Shut up!"
Richard shrugged, "Fine, I'll shut up. You guys continue deceiving yourselves."
Hubert ignored him and turned to Eugene, "If one day, Elizabeth also made headlines for kissing someone, what would you do?"
Eugene felt suffocated just hearing that. After a moment, he smiled bitterly, "What can I do? I can't bring myself to give my blessings, but I also have no right to break them up. I can only swallow all the bitterness myself. After all, it was my own fault for losing Elizabeth." This was the biggest regret of his life.
Hubert closed his eyes and lay back on the bed, feeling utterly powerless. His face and lips were etched with bitterness, and his eyes were unusually red. He sighed deeply, "Yeah, it's all our own fault." Only after truly losing Rebecca did he realize how painful it was.
Hubert was discharged from the hospital that day. The first thing he did was sell the Diaz Villa. He not only stopped caring about Angela but also publicly declared that Angela had never helped him; instead, she had helped Melissa harm him. If he hadn't been prepared, he would have ended up like Otis.
Hubert even threatened that anyone who aided or sheltered Angela in the future would be going against him. It had to be admitted, when Hubert turned ruthless, he was utterly merciless.
Hubert now took over the Diaz Group, became the chairman, and became a formidable figure among the younger generation in the circle. No one would be foolish enough to offend him for Angela. So after Angela was kicked out of the Diaz family, she had a miserable life. She had to endure the pain of poison bug addiction while being exploited by Melissa, who took all her money. She was also confined at home, serving Otis and doing housework.
Then, just before Angela lost control and the poison bug took over her body, she poisoned Melissa and Otis in their food. Although they didn't die, they were both in a miserable state.
Angela was also arrested and sent to prison. But later it was discovered that she had mental issues and liked to eat things like dirt. In the end, Angela was diagnosed with mental problems and was released. She wandered around like a fool, only knowing how to eat and drink, picking up trash everywhere.
When Angela was bullied and ridiculed by the people she once looked down on, she only knew how to laugh foolishly. Some even gave her food, and she would kneel and bark like a dog. This made Angela, who couldn't control her body, completely break down. She finally understood the punishment Elizabeth had mentioned. She couldn't die, and living meant seeing herself like that, suffering and in pain every day. It was truly a fate worse than death.
On the other side, Brenda had already found out that Angela was her sister. She had been keeping an eye on Angela. She had thought that if Angela could win over Hubert, she would go and acknowledge her. But who knew Angela would end up worse than her, becoming a fool with mental issues.
So Brenda put all her focus on Loren. Recently, Brenda had been trying to contact Loren, but he wouldn't see her. One day, she couldn't help but go to the Clark Group to wait for him.
After Loren got engaged to Elise, he stepped down as president of Clark Entertainment and joined the Clark Group. When Loren arrived at the underground parking lot, he saw Brenda standing in front of his car and frowned.
Brenda's eyes lit up when she saw Loren, and she called out softly, "Loren."
Loren looked at Brenda, whose heavy makeup couldn't hide her aging, and felt a bit annoyed. He put on a gentle smile, "What are you doing here?"
Brenda walked up and said softly, "I missed you, so I came to see you."
Loren smiled faintly, "Now that you've seen me, I have things to do, so I'll be going." He reached out to open the car door and get in. But at the same time, Brenda quickly opened the door and got into the back seat.
Loren looked at Brenda through the rearview mirror. He frowned, "Brenda, this kind of pestering is pointless."
Brenda's eyes reddened, and she choked up, "Loren, you're all I have. After all these years of sibling affection, are you really going to abandon me?"
Loren felt a bit disgusted. Brenda now looked like a heavily made-up woman in her thirties, and her expressions and actions were revolting. "Brenda, what do you want?" he sighed, "You know I'm engaged now, and Elise doesn't like me being in contact with you."
Brenda secretly loathed Elise. She had never expected Elise to use her to get close to Loren and then successfully get engaged to him. She felt extremely wronged.
"I don't want to affect your relationship," she said, wiping away her tears. "I'm just being crushed by Mom, and you're the only one I can think of."
Loren hadn't expected Brenda to become so shameless and clingy. He thought momentarily and then suggested, "How about this: I'll give you some money and send you abroad. That way, you can start over." He just wanted to get rid of Brenda, even if it meant spending money to avoid trouble.
Brenda lowered her head, her eyes full of resentment. He actually wanted to send her away. Well, then he couldn't blame her for being unkind.
Soon, Brenda adjusted her expression and looked up. As if she had made a decision, she took a deep breath and agreed, "Okay, I'll do as you say."
She looked at him pitifully, then pleaded, "Loren, can you have one last meal with me?"
