Chapter 203 You Guys Are Unreliable
When Enrique arrived at Veridiania, it was already past eight in the evening. He took a taxi directly to the hospital.
Entering the ward, he saw Brenda curled up on the bed, looking pitiful.
Brenda lay with her eyes closed, seemingly asleep, but her slumber was far from restful. Her face was pale, and she was murmuring, "It wasn't me. It really wasn't me. Arnold, don't leave. It wasn't me, it wasn't, it wasn't. Arnold, Kevin, don't abandon me..." she sobbed.
Enrique walked over, heart aching, and gently touched Brenda's face.
Brenda had been tormented to the point where she was even pleading in her dreams.
As if sensing someone touching her, Brenda suddenly woke up with a scream, "Ah!" She opened her eyes and saw Enrique, who had rushed over in a hurry. Tears streamed down her face. She asked, "Enrique, is that you?"
Enrique quickly took out a handkerchief and wiped her tears. "It's me. I'm here."
Brenda used her good hand to prop herself up. She threw herself into Enrique's arms and cried out, "Enrique, you finally came. It hurts so much, I feel so bad, I'm so scared!"
Enrique held her in his arms, gently patting her on the back, "Don't be afraid. I'm here."
Then he held Brenda and comforted her until she smiled through her tears.
Enrique asked, "Brenda, do you want something to eat?"
Brenda replied, "I'm not hungry. I haven't had much of an appetite these past few days. Enrique, you haven't had dinner yet, have you?"
Enrique replied, "I had a little something on the plane. I'm not hungry now."
Brenda thought for a moment and suggested, "Arnold and Kevin's livestream should be ending soon. Why don't you go have a late-night snack with them and then come back to keep me company?"
Arnold and Kevin didn't come to check on her because they were upset about what happened before.
Brenda believed she could act cute and cry to get their forgiveness. However, if she couldn't see them, there was nothing she could do. So she needed Enrique to bring them over.
Enrique frowned, "What's so important about them? I came specifically to be with you."
He didn't want to see those two heartless brothers right now.
Brenda, with red eyes, leaned against his chest. Softly, she whispered, "Arnold and Kevin have a misunderstanding about me. I want to explain to them, but they won't give me a chance."
She held his hand and pleaded, "Enrique, can you talk to them for me and ask them not to be mad at me, please? I'll explain and apologize to them in person. We're siblings. I don't want things to be so strained between us."
Enrique's heart sank even further as he observed Brenda's cautious and humble demeanor. What kind of brothers were they, making Brenda act more mature than them?
He sighed, "Alright, I'll go find them. I'll bring them to see you later. Once you talk it out, they definitely won't blame you. This time, it's not your fault; it's Arnold and Elizabeth who were too heartless."
Brenda nodded, adding, "I also have some fault. They're angry at me because of Elizabeth, so Enrique, when you go find them, don't mention her. I don't want any more unpleasantness between us because of her." She didn't want Enrique digging into past events.
Enrique patted her on the head, saying, "You're too kind. Alright, I'll listen to you."
After comforting Brenda for a while, he took a taxi to the hotel where Arnold and Kevin were staying.
Because this group lay flat today, the livestream ended after they had dinner and returned to the hotel.
The other two groups went to an internet cafe to play games, and Elizabeth really did invite Natalie.
Natalie decisively ditched the three of them, which made the three particularly unhappy.
At this moment, Arnold was watching TV in Kevin's room when Kevin's phone rang.
Kevin said, "It must be Enrique."
Arnold pouted, "Of course, Enrique came really fast."
Comparisons were odious. Previously, when Arnold was hospitalized with a minor injury and asked Enrique to bring something to the hospital, Enrique procrastinated and delayed until the following day, despite both of them being in the same city.
But now, crossing two countries, Enrique came so quickly. It seemed that in Enrique's heart, Arnold was not as important as Brenda.
Arnold felt bitterness and a sense of betrayal.
While Arnold was complaining in his heart, Kevin answered the call. "Enrique, you're in Veridiania?"
"I'm already at the hotel lobby. Which room are you in?" Enrique's voice came through.
Kevin and Arnold were puzzled. Why had Enrique come here? "Aren't you supposed to be taking care of Brenda? Why are you here?" Kevin asked, giving the room number.
Enrique took the elevator. "I've already been to the hospital. Brenda asked me to come find you. I'll talk to you when I get up," he said before hanging up.
Kevin looked at Arnold. "He's probably here to ask us to go to the hospital together, right?" he speculated.
Arnold agreed. "Definitely. But I don't want to go. I don't want to see Brenda until we go back home."
Kevin thought momentarily and nodded "Then we won't."
Soon, there was a knock on the door. Kevin got up to open the door.
Enrique came in and sat down, looking around the room with disdain, "This place is too shabby," he whined.
Kevin shrugged. "No money for a better place."
Enrique looked at the two with sympathy. "You guys are really asking for trouble."
He then asked with a bit of schadenfreude, "How about I pay to upgrade your hotel?"
Then, he could move them to a hotel near the hospital and take turns with him to keep watch at night.
Seeing his expression, Kevin and Arnold immediately refused. "No need. We're working. If you pay to upgrade our hotel, that would be cheating."
They didn't want to stay with Enrique. And Enrique's disdainful and gloating look made them very unhappy.
Enrique pouted, "You guys are really serious."
He then got to the point, "What's going on with you two? Leaving Brenda alone in the hospital. When I got there, she was curled up pitifully, even dreaming and murmuring, 'It wasn't me, Arnold, Kevin, don't abandon me.' You guys are too much."
Arnold and Kevin exchanged knowing looks. Brenda's conveniently timed dream seemed just too coincidental, but they knew Enrique wouldn't listen.
They could only brush it off. "Yes, we're too much. So from now on, Brenda is all yours."
Enrique was speechless, "You know you're too much, but you still won't take care of Brenda?"
Kevin sighed, "We're working on a live stream. Where do we have the time or opportunity to go to the hospital?" He then clutched his stomach, "And my stomach hurts; I need someone to take care of me; going to the hospital would just be a burden."
Arnold also pointed to his neck, speaking hoarsely, "Me too, I'm still sick myself."
Enrique glared at them. "You guys are unreliable." His voice rose in frustration.
Turning his anger on Arnold, he snapped, "You joined this reality show to take care of Brenda. But look how you’ve handled it. Not only did you let Brenda get hurt, but you also bully her along with everyone else."
