Chapter 333 This is More Like It

Under Elizabeth's relentless questioning, Eugene's face changed. He tried to speak but couldn't find the words. Honestly, he was starting to believe Victor's story.

Without the blinders of family loyalty, he saw Amy for who she really was. Amy had always hated Elizabeth; she downright despised her. And with how she favored Brenda over her own kids, it wasn't a stretch to think she'd do something shady for Brenda.

He kept glancing at the dining room before finally saying to Elizabeth, "I'll ask Caleb about it later. If Amy did it, I'm sorry on her behalf."

Elizabeth retorted, "You think you can apologize for her? That's a joke. And if she did do it, you think your apology means anything?"

Eugene quickly clarified, "No, that's not what I meant. If she's behind this, it's on her. Whatever you decide to do, I'll back you up."

He was more and more disappointed in Amy and was all for Elizabeth getting back at her. Amy had it coming. Maybe if she got a taste of her own medicine, she'd chill out a bit, which would be good for everyone. Orlando would have less to worry about too.

Elizabeth nodded. "Now you're talking."

Amy, watching the live stream, was livid. "Ungrateful brat!" Eugene was saying all this on a live stream. He already believed she was behind it. Instead of helping her, he was siding with Elizabeth. Amy regretted ever giving birth to Eugene as a wave of fury washed over her, draining the color from her face.

From the moment she got pregnant, she never liked those kids. They were born to make her life miserable, showing no respect and even hurting her. If she had known, she would've aborted them, even if it meant risking her health. It would've saved her all this grief.

She couldn't help but check the live stream comments.

[I knew these two weren't just picking a fight for no reason; Mrs. Baker was behind it.]

[Mrs. Baker is so vicious. Elizabeth and Eugene had long broken up, yet she still won't let go.]

[She's doing it for Brenda. She must be as bad as Brenda for them to be so close.]

[Definitely, birds of a feather flock together. I wonder if she's also shameless.]

[And Mrs. Baker is involved with a murderer; what kind of good person could she be?]

[Is Mr. Baker out of his mind to have married such a woman as Mrs. Baker?]

[I heard Mrs. Baker came from a poor family and used tricks to get her current status.]

[Mrs. Baker...]

All the comments were trashing Amy, and some even dug up dirt on her family. She felt humiliated and even angrier. She needed to shift the blame, or she'd be a pariah in her social circle. So she called Caleb.

Caleb was by the window, looking grim. When he got Amy's call, she chewed him out first. Then she told him to take the fall and not drag her into it. The King Family relied on Amy. Caleb lived well because of his aunt, Mrs. Baker, so he quickly agreed to take the blame.

After hanging up, Caleb went downstairs and headed to the street. He'd been debating whether to go over, but Amy's orders left him no choice.

Plus, his two buddies—one had his own mom get an abortion, and the other even committed murder. Judging by their reactions, it was probably true. So he had to get them out before the cops showed up.

When Caleb showed up, Victor and the other guy lit up.

"Caleb, we're here!"

"Caleb, help us out!"

Their shouts turned all eyes on Caleb. The live stream camera zoomed in on him too.

Caleb looked pretty put-together, but thanks to past drama, no one had a good opinion of him. He silently cursed his two lackeys for being useless; they were supposed to cause trouble for others, not him.

With a forced smile, he greeted Eugene, "Eugene, long time no see."

Eugene had always had a beef with the King Family. Rebecca had been through hell and back after being sent to them. Caleb had been a troublemaker since he was a kid, always getting into mischief. The King Family spoiled him rotten because he was the youngest.

Eugene frowned and asked, "What's the deal? Why'd you send these two to mess with Elizabeth?"

Caleb added Eugene to his mental list of people to curse. This guy was really dense. In this situation, shouldn't he be trying to smooth things over? Instead, Eugene was grilling him right off the bat.

Still, Caleb kept his cool and smiled. "Eugene, it's all a big misunderstanding. I really like Ms. Clark, so I thought I'd do something to get her attention."

He looked a bit embarrassed and added, "I figured I'd have these two cause some trouble, and then I'd swoop in to save the day. Didn't expect them to screw it up."

Caleb didn't deny it because he knew no one would buy it if he said he hadn't set this up. Plus, it would drag Amy into it, so he took the fall. He claimed he was just trying to impress Elizabeth, which wasn't a big deal. At worst, he'd get a scolding.

He loved being the center of attention anyway, always live streaming to flaunt his wealth or private life. Being on camera didn't faze him.

Eugene frowned even more. "What are you talking about?" The idea of Caleb thinking he could win over Elizabeth was laughable.

Elizabeth raised an eyebrow at Caleb, saying, "I don't see any affection for me in your face or eyes. Your words are just a cover for Amy."

Caleb paused, not expecting Elizabeth to call him out. He was annoyed that she was standing up to him. No woman had ever dared to disrespect him like this.

But he kept his cool and smiled. "My feelings for you have always been hidden. You were Eugene's girlfriend, so I didn't dare make a move. Now that you two are done, I thought I had a shot."

He wasn't lying; he had always thought Elizabeth was stunning. If she were his girlfriend, it would be a huge flex. But he didn't want to cross Eugene, so he held back.

Later, Amy found out about their relationship and was dead set against Eugene and Elizabeth. She even asked Caleb to go after Elizabeth, ruin her reputation, and then dump her. But before he could act, Elizabeth broke up with Eugene on her own. Amy dropped the idea, so he didn't pursue it. If he could get Elizabeth now, he definitely wanted to. Especially since she had dumped Eugene, getting her would be a major win. The thought of it made him feel smug and proud. It would be a thrill to mess with her.

Now, if he wanted Elizabeth, he couldn't go the usual route; he had to play dirty. Today, Elizabeth had clearly pissed off Amy. He was sure Amy would help him get Elizabeth. Then he could get back at her for not showing him respect today.
