Chapter 295 I'm Really Afraid of You
Paul and Betty got hit with the usual family drama and their relatives showed up again.
This time, it was Bishop and Samantha. They straight-up told them to haul their butts back to The Clark Villa tomorrow. No dodging the lecture this time.
Paul was still chilling abroad, but Bishop made it clear he had to come back. So, Paul had no choice but to get his secretary to book a flight for the next morning.
He then found the replay of the latest episode of that variety show and watched the highlights. Man, was he pissed. He couldn't wrap his head around how Enrique could be such a moron. The guy had already lent out the Generational Blessings and was having the worst luck, yet he couldn't bring himself to be tough on Brenda. Paul couldn't believe the Clark Family had raised such a dunce. Enrique was a textbook case of someone who brought bad luck on himself. Paul was done dealing with it.
If Enrique wanted to go down this road, he'd have to face the music later. Paul still had to clean up this mess, and just thinking about it gave him a massive headache. He regretted adopting Brenda and letting his sons run wild.
Betty was about to lose it too. She'd been sitting with her two sons watching the live broadcast, only to get bombarded with "questions" from friends and family.
She turned to Arnold with a dark look and asked, "What's up with that video making headlines online? Did you upload it?"
Arnold was just as shocked when he saw the headlines. He wondered how the video got out. Could it have been Kevin?
Hearing Betty's angry question, he replied, "It wasn't me." Then he added, "I'm not dumb enough to expose such a scandal."
Betty frowned and said, "Then it must be Kevin. Kevin's getting more and more reckless, actually posting that video. Doesn't he feel any shame?"
The only people who recorded the video that day were her, Arnold, and Kevin. If it wasn't Arnold, it had to be Kevin.
Arnold said, "Kevin's still on the variety show live broadcast, it shouldn't be him."
Betty sneered, "Why not? Couldn't he have sent the video to someone else beforehand? Kevin, that jerk, just wait till he gets back. I'll deal with him. And Enrique, that idiot, what's he thinking? He's a director, what's he doing on a live variety show? Now look at the mess he's made; not only has he trashed his own reputation, but he's also brought shame to the family."
She was really about to lose her mind over her sons. She couldn't understand why she raised such fools. Of course, she also blamed Brenda.
Richard listened to Betty ranting about Kevin and Enrique. He stroked his chin, guessing it must've been the video he sent to Elizabeth, and her team took the chance to release it. Now was the perfect time. As for the scandal, what did it have to do with him? He'd already been chewed out for stuff like this before, so he wasn't going to be the only one taking the heat. If they were brothers, they should get scolded together. Their parents usually didn't care much about them, so it was only fair they shared the blame now. Besides, Enrique deserved to be scolded; he was doing a good deed. Of course, he couldn't let his parents know he was the one who released the video. Otherwise, they'd surely want to give him a piece of their mind.
So now the blame fell on Kevin and Enrique. He'd wait until Kevin and Enrique finished the variety show to take responsibility.
Kevin, who was sitting and sipping coffee, sneezed several times in a row. He looked up at Enrique, wondering if Enrique was cursing him in his mind. It was a classic case of no good deed going unpunished; he shouldn't have given Enrique a heads-up earlier. He was just waiting to see Enrique regret it.
Enrique had no clue about the online roasting and scolding. Seeing others chatting and laughing, he couldn't join in. He also clearly felt he was being left out and isolated.
He had this itch to just bail. But if he did, he'd look even worse, so he just sat there, stewing in silence.
Around 9 PM, the crew decided to hit up the market.
As they left the hotel, Raymond turned to Enrique, who was trailing behind, and asked, "Aren't you gonna check on Brenda?"
Enrique kept quiet; Raymond had a knack for hitting where it hurt. He was all kinds of conflicted about Brenda right now and didn't want to face her.
"I'm on the show, gotta finish my work first," he finally said.
Raymond smirked, "The market cannot be broadcasted live. so today's show time is almost up. You can still go check on Brenda."
Enrique hesitated, then asked, "Can't I just go to the market and look around?" He'd rather be a loner at the market than deal with Brenda right now.
Raymond gave him a knowing smile. "Sure, go ahead. So you are feeling upset. I thought you were too nice to care." If Enrique didn't have any grudges, he'd have rushed to see Brenda.
Enrique stayed silent, not wanting to spill the truth. Did Raymond not get the memo?
"Can you just be quiet for a moment?" he snapped.
Raymond shrugged."Nope."
Enrique used to give Elizabeth a hard time, so Raymond was all about making Enrique squirm.
Enrique sighed, "Ok, fine. Just leave me alone, you are really annoying."
Raymond sneered, "Why? I don't want your Generational Blessings."
Enrique felt even worse.
He chose to stay quiet this time. He couldn't win against Raymond's sharp tongue, so he decided to avoid him.
The viewers in the live stream were cracking up at their exchange. Raymond's sharp tongue was legendary. They just wanted to acknowledge that Raymond was on point.
Since the market couldn't be broadcasted live, the live stream cut off after they left the hotel.
Zachary led the group through a maze of alleys and stopped at the entrance of a big courtyard.
He knocked on the door.
A servant opened it. Seeing Zachary, his previously blank face lit up with a respectful smile.
He made a welcoming gesture, "Mr. Murphy, welcome. Please come in!"
Zachary said, "I brought some friends to check it out; they're all with me."
The servant smiled. "Anyone you bring is welcome; please come in!"
The group realized they needed an insider to get into this market. It made sense why they hadn't come across it online or heard about it before.
Inside, they followed Zachary through the main courtyard. Then, an open area that looked like a market appeared.
The market was lit with old-school kerosene lamps, giving it a vintage vibe.
There were already quite a few people browsing. Everyone was amazed and curious. The courtyard was huge, no wonder the market stayed hidden.
Entering the market, they saw all sorts of stuff at each stall. Some sold gold powder, Spellscroll pens, and other tools, while others had crafted Spellscrolls, divination trinkets, and more. Antiques were everywhere.
Everyone was blown away by what they saw.
Nancy, holding Elizabeth's arm, whispered, "Are all the antiques here legit?"
Elizabeth replied, "Most of the stuff should be real, but they might not be that old. And over ninety percent of the items here aren't worth buying."
Ronald, who loved collecting antiques, was eyeing the night market's treasures and thinking about buying a few. Hearing Elizabeth, he asked, "Why?"
