Chapter 211 Make Things Difficult for Enrique
Arnold and Kevin rushed over and saw Betty fainted on the ground. The two were startled and quickly carried her to the emergency building ahead. The doctor provided emergency treatment for Betty and conducted an examination.
He told that Betty fainted due to high blood pressure caused by chest tightness and anger.
They brought her in time, and after the emergency treatment, Betty was fine.
However, she needed to be careful not to lose control of her emotions in the future.
Arnold and Kevin finally breathed a sigh of relief.
Betty had been sent to a ward to rest, and the two stayed by her bedside. Then Arnold's phone rang. Seeing the caller ID, he immediately answered, "Dad."
Paul asked, "Are you with your mom? I've been calling her, but no one is answering."
After watching the video Betty sent him, Paul was very angry. He wasn't there, or else he would have broken Enrique's leg.
Arnold was taken aback. "Mom's phone might have fallen where she fainted."
He then told Kevin, "Go find Mom's phone quickly."
They were in such a hurry to get Betty to the emergency room that they didn't notice the phone on the ground.
Kevin stood up and replied, "Okay!"
Paul's worried voice came through the phone. "What do you mean she collapsed? What's going on with Mom?"
Arnold didn't sugarcoat things. He explained exactly what had happened, including Betty's collapse in the hospital room.
Hearing that Betty was okay now, Paul let out a sigh of relief. However, his frustration with Enrique and Brenda only grew.
"They're both at fault here," Paul fumed. "Make sure you take good care of your Mom. She needs to rest and recover before you head back home.
"Get Enrique over to stay with her. Leave Brenda out of it for now."
Arnold nodded. "Understood. I'll get Enrique here as soon as possible."
It was clear from Paul's tone that he was truly upset this time. Enrique was in for a rough time, but he brought it upon himself.
As for Brenda, Paul's feelings were now more complex.
After ending the call, Paul reached out to Enrique, instructing him to hurry over.
In the hospital room, Enrique, who had just finished treating the cuts on his face, was taken aback to hear that Betty had fainted.
"Brenda, Mom's collapsed. I need to go check on her."
Brenda looked momentarily stunned, her expression a mix of faux concern. "What? Mom fainted? What happened?"
Enrique quickly stood up. "The doctors acted quickly, so she's okay now, but she hasn't woken up yet."
Feigning urgency, Brenda attempted to get up but stumbled due to her cast. She nearly fell into Enrique.
He quickly steadied her. "No, you stay here. You're still injured and moving around isn't easy for you. I'll go."
He was also worried that if Betty woke up and saw him with Brenda, it might upset her even more.
Brenda pouted slightly and relented. "Alright, it's probably better if I stay put for now."
She gave Enrique a gentle push, pretending to be anxious. "Go on then. Let me know what happens."
Enrique helped her back into a seated position. "Okay, rest up. I'll come check on you later."
Brenda nodded. "Sure."
Once Enrique left, Brenda's worried facade dropped, replaced by a smirk of satisfaction. She thought, 'Betty gave us so much trouble before; it's only fitting she collapsed. Too bad it wasn't worse.'
On the other side of town, when Enrique arrived, Betty was still unconscious.
Seeing Enrique's battered state, Arnold and the others exchanged sympathetic glances.
"Enrique, the price you're paying for Brenda is pretty steep," Arnold remarked.
When Enrique got back, he would face Paul's wrath.
Enrique shot him a look. "Cut it out with the harsh comments."
A short while later, Betty regained consciousness.
The three brothers immediately gathered around her. "Mom, how are you feeling?"
Betty, still partially aware from her fainting spell, responded, "Much better."
Her mood darkened when she saw Enrique. She had hoped he would be gone and had no desire to see him.
But she was also wary of him potentially going back to find Brenda, just like before.
So, she bit her tongue but wasn't about to let Enrique off easily.
She turned to Arnold and the others. "You two have work tomorrow, so go back to the hotel for now. Enrique can stay here with me."
If Enrique could keep watch over Brenda, he could certainly do the same for her.
Arnold and the others, recognizing that Betty intended to make Enrique's life difficult, didn't offer to stay.
"Alright, if you need anything, just call us."
As they headed for the door, Enrique felt a pang of discomfort. It seemed unfair that, despite being a son, he was the one left here while the others could go rest.
But he didn't dare voice his concerns.
As Arnold and Kevin reached the door, Betty suddenly said, "Tomorrow, let Elizabeth know I've collapsed and been admitted. If she wants to visit, bring her along."
Even though Paul had instructed them not to actively seek out Elizabeth, Betty, feeling unwell and disoriented, found herself longing to see her.
Just as Elizabeth used to be a comforting presence when she was ill, Betty felt secure with her around. When Elizabeth was still at home, Betty's blood pressure had stabilized with the special health foods Elizabeth made for her.
Now, however, her blood pressure was once again unstable and climbing.
The more Betty thought about it, the more she missed Elizabeth's presence.
She couldn't help but feel a flicker of hope and anticipation. She thought, 'If Elizabeth knows I've collapsed and been hospitalized, will she come to visit? That would show she still cares about me as her mother.'
Kevin turned to her and asked, "So, how do you want to explain your fainting episode?"
He had a pretty good idea of what Betty was thinking. After all, this was a chance to reconnect with Elizabeth. He thought, 'Given how much Elizabeth cares about Betty, she would likely come to visit at the hospital, right?'
The issue was how Betty had fainted—talking about it might be a bit awkward. It wasn't so much that Betty's fainting was embarrassing, but rather the circumstances involving Enrique.
Betty seemed to share a similar sentiment. "Just say it was a sudden spike in my blood pressure that caused me to faint. And let's keep Enrique's shameless actions out of this."
Enrique felt a twinge of frustration. He thought, 'I haven't done anything wrong—how could it be so embarrassing? My relationship with Brenda is innocent; we're not what others might think.'
It was hard to swallow being unfairly accused like this. But he couldn't say anything, fearing it might further upset Betty.
Kevin nodded, "Don't worry, Mom. I've got it covered."
Once they left, Enrique was left alone to keep vigil at the hospital.
Betty, channeling her inner soap opera villain, decided to make Enrique's night a living hell. She had him fetch water, only to complain about its temperature—too hot one minute, too cold the next. She even threw the cup at him when she was particularly displeased.
She demanded he sit on a hard bench next to her and stay there, ensuring she had everything she needed, from extra blankets when she felt cold to their removal when she felt too warm.
Throughout the night, Betty, feeling unwell, frequently woke up and made Enrique run errands for her. Every time Enrique finally managed to doze off, Betty would wake him up again—asking him to refill her water, wash her feet, or give her a head massage.
By dawn, Betty was finally sleeping soundly, but Enrique was completely exhausted. He stumbled out to get food for Betty, his eyes heavy with dark circles and a look of resignation on his face.
Meanwhile, on the other side of town, the live variety show was wrapping up. The crew had organized a special event for the last day. Lunch was on the house, and the current season was coming to an end. Everyone waved goodbye to the live cameras.
The crew even gave everyone a day and a half off to explore the area before heading back home the day after tomorrow.
Elizabeth was busy chatting with others about where to go and what to do during their free time.
That was when Kevin and his brother approached her.
