Chapter 460 Why Are You Still Pretending?
Elizabeth's strength had significantly improved after helping Zachary in Aevum City. Although Xavier had already reached the late stage of being a high-level diviner, she could still somewhat discern his condition. She discovered that he didn't have much time left.
However, Xavier hadn't used Ethan's nefarious methods to extend his life, which was why he wanted to seize Zachary's physique.
Elizabeth looked at Xavier and remarked, "You wear your despicable nature right on your face; I almost admire it. No wonder your son is the same; you two are alike."
Xavier looked at her, stunned. "What are you talking about?"
Elizabeth rolled her eyes at him, "Haven't I made it clear? Why are you still pretending? Do you think the fact that you and Ethan are father and son is a secret only you two know and won't be exposed? You're underestimating me. Your sense of destiny as father and son is obvious; I've already seen it. Moreover, your profile looks very similar to Ethan, Brenda, and Percy. Your genetic traits are strong."
She could see some of Ethan and Xavier's sense of destiny. Although she didn't directly see their father-son relationship, she noticed the similarities in their features. The most crucial point was a subtle common trait between the two, but she didn't mention it. From what Zachary had said before, she always felt that Xavier's dedication to Ethan wasn't just a simple teacher-student relationship. So she specifically observed Xavier's profile from different angles, and sure enough, it resembled Ethan's.
Xavier's eyes showed shock and surprise, then he laughed. "I didn't expect you to see through this. No wonder Ethan suffered so much at your hands."
This statement surprised the three people beside him and Zachary. Clearly, they hadn't expected Ethan to be Xavier's son.
Elizabeth smiled, "If you don't want people to know, don't do it."
Then she suddenly left the coffin, kicked up a burial spear from the ground, and caught it. She then used the spear to pry open the coffin lid. "Ethan, there's no need to hide anymore," she chuckled.
Once she had entered, she had received a warning from the little Aether Serpent, which had detected Ethan's presence.
When the coffin lid was pried open, Ethan, who had been lying inside, sat up. He looked at Elizabeth with intense hostility and said through gritted teeth, "Elizabeth, my biggest mistake was not killing you earlier." If he had eliminated Elizabeth earlier, none of this would have happened.
Elizabeth raised an eyebrow, "You said it was a mistake; regretting it now is useless. You've harmed so many people; do you really think you can escape?"
Then she smiled brightly, "But I really have to thank you today. Otherwise, how could we have lured Xavier out?"
Ethan's eyes narrowed. "So you planned all of this?" No wonder he kept failing and escaping so easily. Elizabeth was too cunning.
Elizabeth laughed, "You can't always be the ones scheming against me. How does it feel to be outsmarted?"
Ethan fell silent, feeling extremely frustrated. He and Xavier had always been the ones manipulating others; this was the first time Elizabeth had outsmarted them.
Xavier's expression was much calmer than Ethan's. He remarked icily, "Impressive, you're truly Wayne's student. He couldn't fight me to the end, but now you're here to challenge me. You're so young yet so clever and talented."
He looked at Elizabeth with cold eyes. "I really can't stand geniuses like you. So, why don't you go join Wayne in the afterlife?"
Elizabeth's eyes turned icy as she looked at him. She questioned, "So Wayne was indeed killed by you."
Xavier sneered, "He knew too much and tried to stop us. I originally wanted to help him live longer. But he refused to accept it, so he had to die."
As soon as he finished speaking, he suddenly activated the artifact in his hand. He shouted, "Kill!"
The three people beside him also activated their artifacts and shouted, "Kill!"
Soon, the surroundings changed. It felt like an ancient battlefield, with countless arrows shooting at Elizabeth and Zachary from all directions. Their ears were filled with deafening war cries.
Elizabeth and Zachary remained calm and composed. Elizabeth even had a hint of a smile in her eyes. This gave Xavier and Ethan an ominous feeling.
Then Elizabeth took out a puppet and tapped the Spellscroll on it. She said, "Replace!"
Zachary also took out a puppet and did the same. He chimed in, "Replace!"
The two puppets flew up to shield them, and all the arrows hit the puppets. The Spellscrolls on the puppets had Stanley's name written on them.
When Elizabeth entered the tomb, she had checked for any traps. Before entering this chamber, she had thoroughly inspected it. Upon discovering the killing array inside, she gave Zachary a puppet. She mouthed to Zachary, "Use their trap against them."
Elizabeth had carved these puppets after receiving a call from Betty. During her duel with Stanley, she had collected his aura and blood from the array to create these substitute puppets. Now they were put to use.
Xavier and Ethan were in disbelief. They widened their eyes. "You're too cunning." They hadn't expected Elizabeth to do something like this, completely shattering their perception.
Elizabeth shrugged, "Didn't I learn this from you? Since you're not good people, using such tactics against you is fitting."
Meanwhile, Stanley, who had just entered Aevum City, suddenly spat out several mouthfuls of blood. Blood also flowed from his nose and ears. He clutched his chest, feeling as if he had been shot by countless arrows.
Following the killing intent that attacked him, he sensed Ethan and Xavier's presence. He had known for years that they were actually teacher and student. Stanley clutched his chest, his hair standing on end with anger. He shouted, "This is too much; they're too much." They were trying to kill him! But this was typical of Xavier and Ethan.
Stanley took out a dead purple centipede from a small pouch hanging from his chest. Fortunately, he had refined this poisonous insect before leaving; it had taken much of the damage for him. Otherwise, he would already be a corpse. His eyes were filled with murderous intent, roaring, "Damn it. I must kill them all!"
