Chapter 231 Can't Stop Him
Brenda wasn't about to get smacked with a wooden ruler, no way.
So she ducked behind Enrique and whined, "My hand's still sore. Can we just drop it this time?"
The etiquette teacher wasn't having it. "Nope. If you hide again, it's double the punishment."
Enrique didn't see this coming. He thought, 'Man, Betty really hired a hard-ass.' He stepped up, "Who do you think you are? We hired you to teach manners, not to play whack-a-mole. Don't push it."
The etiquette teacher gave him a look like he was dirt. "Your manners suck too. Do you even look like a rich kid? Mrs. Clark hired me. Got a problem? Take it up with her. But right now, I gotta punish her."
Then she whipped out her phone and said, "Or should I call Mrs. Clark, and you can explain it to her?"
Brenda freaked out. Betty would lose it if she found out about this. No way she could let that happen.
She had no choice but to stick out her unbandaged hand. "Fine, I'll take the punishment, okay?"
The etiquette teacher didn't hold back. She grabbed Brenda's hand and whacked it ten times with the wooden ruler.
Brenda cried from the pain. Her hand was red and swollen, and she felt like she was falling apart. How did it come to this?
She cursed in her head, 'Damn Elizabeth. Why couldn't she just stay a rich girl after being found by the family? Why'd she have to cut ties and leave, bringing me all this bad luck?'
Enrique's heart broke seeing Brenda get hit. He was about to chew out the teacher and comfort Brenda.
Arnold, acting all concerned, cut in, "Enrique, if you don't want Mom to come back and blame Brenda, you better zip it."
Enrique grudgingly shut up.
Brenda felt super bummed. But what made it worse was the etiquette teacher yanking her off the couch and dumping her in a wheelchair. Then she pushed her upstairs to keep learning etiquette.
Brenda sat in the wheelchair, fuming. She was so close to getting some Generational Blessings from Enrique, but the teacher ruined it. How could she not be pissed?
After Brenda was taken away, Arnold plopped down next to Enrique and whispered, "Are you dumb? She asked you for luck, and you were gonna give it?"
Enrique looked at him like he was nuts. "It was just a joke. What's the big deal?"
Arnold was speechless. "But what if it was real? If you agreed, what if she really took your luck? I've heard of people stealing Generational Blessings in showbiz and even borrowing lives," he whispered.
Then he stressed, "So if someone asks you for luck or anything like that, don't just agree."
Enrique shrugged. "There's no such spooky stuff. Besides, Brenda's been down on her luck lately. Even if I did lend her some, so what?"
Arnold was fuming. Enrique was dumber than a rock, and he was really willing to lend it. Luckily, because of Richard's orders, he hadn't spilled the beans to Enrique. Otherwise, Enrique would've definitely told Brenda.
He sneered, "Fine, go ahead and lend it. When your luck tanks, don't come crying to me. Open your eyes, man. Brenda's not as innocent as you think. She talks a good game but doesn't back it up."
Enrique snapped back, "Enough already. Aren't you tired of this? What's with you guys lately? Always ganging up on Brenda. The last mess wasn't all her fault."
He glared at Arnold and added, "And she already said sorry. Why are you still holding a grudge? So petty."
Arnold clammed up for a second, then sneered, "Fine, I'm the bad guy. But when your luck goes south, don't say I didn't warn you."
Arnold couldn't deal with Enrique anymore, so he stormed off.
Enrique was fuming too. He thought Arnold was nuts and totally unreasonable.
Kevin was waiting outside Arnold's door upstairs. As Arnold emerged, he inquired, "How'd it go?"
Arnold thought for a sec and mumbled, "Let's talk in the garden."
Nodding, Kevin agreed. They made their way to the garden and took a seat.
Arnold asked, "That etiquette teacher, you called her, right?"
Kevin nodded. "Yeah, I was worried Enrique would get hurt, so I had to." Then he asked, "How'd it go? Everything cool?"
Arnold filled him in on what happened and what Enrique said.
Kevin sighed, "We can't get through to him. I'll call Richard."
He dialed up Richard and spilled the beans.
Richard was beyond frustrated. "Enrique's an idiot. I'll talk to Elizabeth."
Richard hit up Elizabeth in the group chat and explained the situation in a voice message.
Elizabeth wasn't shocked by Enrique's choice.
Enrique hadn't felt the sting of losing his Generational Blessings yet. And he was Brenda's most loyal lapdog. It wouldn't be easy to make him see the light about Brenda.
She replied in the group chat.
Elizabeth: [Brenda can still use him. She'll probably take about a third of his Generational Blessings.]
Elizabeth: [It won't mess up his luck too bad for life.]
Elizabeth: [After seven days, he'll start having bad luck, but he won't be in danger.]
From her point of view, there was no stopping someone determined to give away their Generational Blessings. He'd only learn the hard way.
Besides, it was impossible to prevent it. If they stopped him today, what about when Brenda and Enrique were alone tomorrow?
Arnold had already given a clear warning. But Enrique still thought lending his luck was no big deal, so let him.
Seeing those messages, Richard had a similar thought.
Losing a third of his luck wouldn't kill him; it would just make him a bit unlucky. If Enrique wanted to give it, let him.
Richard: [Okay, got it.]
He called Kevin and informed him that if they couldn't prevent Enrique, they would no longer intervene. Kevin and Arnold decided to let it go, speculating that Enrique would soon regret his actions. However, to their surprise, Richard nearly fell for the same trap later that night.
