Chapter 373 Let Her Expose It Now
Brenda finally stepped out of the room after what felt like forever. Her hair, which had turned white, was back to its original color, and her skin looked smooth and youthful again. The wrinkles around her eyes were gone, and the spots on her hands had vanished. She seemed to have shaken off her previous gloom and was now sporting a cheerful smile.
Inside the room, Ethan looked even older and more worn out. He regretted picking Brenda back then; he should've gone with Natalie. But Natalie was too headstrong and had a moral compass, which didn't fit his needs. She didn't seem like his kid at all.
'Once Natalie loses her value, I'll make her end up just like Darlene,' he thought.
He then pulled out a Spellscroll and stuck it on Darlene's back, hiding it under her clothes. Carving a wooden puppet that looked like her, he took some of her hair and blood, wrapped them around the puppet, and used a substitution spell. After a bit, Darlene walked out with a dazed look in her eyes.
Ethan instructed, "Send her back, and make sure no one notices."
The guy outside replied, "Yes, teacher." Then he took Darlene away.
Meanwhile, Elizabeth arrived at Clifftonshireburg Airport.
Raymond drove over to pick her up. Seeing Elizabeth, he quickly walked over to help with her suitcase. Noticing her unusually pale face, he couldn't help but ask, "Elizabeth, are you okay? You look a bit off."
Elizabeth felt a warmth in her heart; it had been a while since anyone showed her such concern. Raymond noticed her pale face right away.
She smiled and said, "I didn't sleep well last night, and I'm not feeling great today. I'll be fine after some rest at home."
Ethan's power was indeed formidable. The previous attack by Ethan had also left her slightly injured.
Raymond nodded. "Alright, I'll take you home."
At Elizabeth's apartment, Raymond took a packaged box from the back seat and handed it to her. "I heard that the president and vice president of the Divination Association are really into these things and collect them secretly. I happened to get one and thought you might need it, so I brought it for you."
Elizabeth didn't refuse his kindness and accepted the box. She planned to open it and see what it was after she got home. "Thank you, Raymond," she remarked.
Raymond, full of concern, said, "Get some good rest, and we'll catch up later."
Elizabeth nodded. "Okay!"
Back at the apartment, Elizabeth found out that Rebecca had gone on a trip and wasn't around. So, she took a shower first, and then opened the package. Inside was a delicate wooden box. She opened it and found a palm-sized green stone inside.
Seeing the stone, she was momentarily taken aback and reached out to pick it up. A wave of energy radiated from it. This was, astonishingly, the essence of an energy stone, something exceedingly rare and typically only found within mineral veins, with an incredibly low probability of formation.
Divination sorcerers could use this to refine their skills and enhance their power, and with this essence of the energy stone, she could advance to a higher level today.
Elizabeth didn't delay. She left messages for her acquaintances, saying she needed to rest for two days. Then she went to her room, set up a protective array, and began absorbing the energy stone.
She was not a stranger to the advanced level, as her comprehension had already reached that realm; it was merely the energy within her that had been stuck at a bottleneck. Now, holding the stone, waves of abundant energy seeped into her being.
Ethan was bound to cause more trouble. It was safer to level up sooner, so she wouldn't have to fear his power.
Two days later, Elizabeth opened her eyes, feeling more alive than ever. She had thought it would take at least three months to reach a higher level, but thanks to the energy stone Raymond gave her, she advanced early.
If Ethan knew, he'd probably lose it. He wouldn't want her becoming a high-level divination sorcerer; he'd have someone try to mess with her.
Having successfully advanced, she turned on her phone. There were tons of missed calls and messages. Seeing that Nicole had called her over ten times, she figured something urgent had happened. So she called back.
Nicole picked up almost immediately. "Elizabeth, did you catch the news about Darlene?"
Elizabeth, puzzled, asked, "I haven't been online for the past two days. What happened to her?"
Nicole replied, "She committed suicide by poisoning at her place last night."
Elizabeth was stunned. "Suicide by poisoning? That doesn't sound like her."
Darlene had been living in such pain after being backfired by the poison bug Elizabeth had placed in her, yet she still wanted to live. How could she possibly commit suicide now?
Nicole said, "I also think it's out of character for her to commit suicide. The Spellscroll Family people went to collect her body, and Nicholas sent me photos of her death. She looked much older. The autopsy report said it was caused by poison, but I feel something strange about it. So I wanted to remind you to be careful of the people behind her."
Elizabeth knew her efforts to help Nicole hadn't been in vain; Nicole's concerned tone showed it.
"I'll be careful. Send me the photos," said Elizabeth.
Nicole replied, "Okay."
Elizabeth asked, "Why would Nicholas send you such photos?"
Nicole said sarcastically, "The Spellscroll Family people found that Darlene had lost her appraisal ability. And after she became unlucky, they abandoned her. Now they want to win me back and continue to use me. I can't be bothered with them and will never forgive them."
Elizabeth could empathize. "Yes, follow your heart and don't be afraid. If the Spellscroll Family dares to do anything bad, I'll back you up."
Feeling warm inside, Nicole smiled warmly. "With you around, I feel very reassured." Her luckiest moment was meeting the wonderful Elizabeth.
After hanging up the phone, Elizabeth opened the message and looked at the photos Nicole had sent. Sure enough, Darlene looked much older, like an old woman. It didn't seem like it was caused by poison. It looked more like her life force and generational blessings had been drained.
And there was no need to guess who did it; it was definitely Ethan. Ethan was truly ruthless; no matter what, Darlene was his child, yet she ended up like this.
Elizabeth looked at the photos, deep in thought. She had a suspicion: these so-called children were likely "food" raised by Ethan. Once they lost their value, their lives and generational blessings would be taken away.
Ethan's methods were too vicious and ruthless. Hadn't the other high-ups in the Divination Association noticed all this time? And what about the special department? Hadn't they noticed anything?
Elizabeth narrowed her eyes. Whether they hadn't noticed or were just not acting, it was time for her to expose it. Immediately, she called Ryan, using the number she had noted down abroad.
