Chapter 69 It's Impossible
The ringtone stopped for a moment, then started again.
Richard picked up. "What's up?"
Brenda was crying. "Richard, I'm feeling awful. Kevin bullied me. He doesn't believe me, yelled at me, and left me alone."
Richard listened to her complaints. Normally, he'd comfort her and then call Kevin to scold him. But now, he rubbed his nose, looking tired. "Why did he yell at you? Is it because of your complicated relationship with Eugene?"
He asked seriously, "Brenda, be honest. Are you secretly seeing Eugene?"
Brenda expected Richard to comfort her and then scold Kevin. Instead, he hit her with three questions in a row.
"I didn't. Eugene and I are just friends," she said, feeling even more wronged. "We're not secretly seeing each other. Do you not believe me either?"
Richard was silent for a moment. "The evidence online makes it hard to believe there's nothing between you two."
Brenda cried out, "There's really nothing between us. If you don't believe me, fine. You're all bullying me." Then she angrily hung up.
The grievances she had "suffered" from Elizabeth in the Clark family before were fake. But this time, it was real. Since joining the Clark family and being pampered, she'd never felt so wronged. Richard and others treated her like a treasure, so now she threw a tantrum and hung up, expecting Richard to call back and comfort her.
But this time, Richard was also angry. After being hung up on, he threw his phone to the ground in frustration.
Brenda waited several minutes but didn't see Richard call back. She was so angry she almost wanted to smash her phone too. Kevin didn't come to find her either. Brenda could only cry and walk out. She saw Eugene standing not far away, and Kevin had returned to the car. Brenda thought for a moment and walked over to Eugene.
"Eugene, I'm sorry. Kevin was just impulsive and misunderstood us. I'll explain it to them."
As soon as Brenda approached, Eugene moved a few steps away, keeping his distance. "It's okay, I didn't take his words to heart."
But Eugene's action hurt Brenda. She was already feeling wronged. Why had he taken a step back? What did Eugene take her for? A monster?
"Eugene, what should we do now? I'll fully cooperate with you to clarify."
She knew Eugene wasn't like her brothers. So she endured her grievances and showed her generosity and thoughtfulness. Of course, she didn't want to be accused of interfering in Elizabeth's relationship. Otherwise, she'd be scolded to death. How could she continue to work in the entertainment industry and become the most popular star? This needed Eugene to solve.
Speaking of this, Eugene felt even more headache. "I don't know either."
At that moment, Lisa's car drove over. Seeing this, Eugene said to Brenda, "I have to go now. If there's anything that needs clarification, I'll contact you." Then he turned and walked toward the car. He didn't look back as he got in, leaving Brenda with red, swollen eyes and a face full of tears.
Neither of them noticed a girl not far away taking photos with her phone. She not only took photos of the two standing together but also captured Brenda's current appearance.
Brenda watched the car drive away. She realized Eugene was also an unromantic man, feeling both angry and helpless. She could only return to the car they originally sat in. She opened the door and sat in the back seat. Ignoring Kevin, she leaned against the window and sobbed, waiting for Kevin to soften and comfort her.
The driver saw the two get in and Eugene's car had drivn away. He immediately started the car and followed.
The director had already heard about the restaurant incident from the staff who had dinner with the three. He was speechless and muttered, "They should've handled this sooner."
Online, a popular video blogger posted, saying they saw the show's crew and caught Eugene and Brenda seemingly arguing. Brenda's eyes were swollen from crying, and Eugene stormed off alone. They also posted photos.
Everyone saw Eugene looking upset and Brenda crying while talking. Then they parted unhappily. People started speculating if they were fighting because their affair was exposed. Their expressions did look like a couple's quarrel. More people joined in criticizing them, making the situation even worse.
Ashley saw this and was furious. They hadn't even figured out how to handle the previous incident, and now there was another one. Why did Brenda keep causing trouble?
On the other side, Elizabeth and the others were watching the latest developments. Raymond said, "No matter how they handle the PR, they can't clear up their relationship now."
Elizabeth smiled. "Yeah, it's a mess."
This was just the beginning. As they said, Ashley and Richard's teams discussed for half a day but couldn't come up with a clarification plan. Ashley contacted Eugene again. "You get the situation now, right? What should we do?"
Eugene said, "The matching pendant wasn't given to Brenda by me."
Ashley asked, "Then why does she have it too? This is a limited edition, only two in the world."
Eugene said, "Someone else gave it to her."
Ashley asked, "Was yours given by the same person?"
Eugene said, "Yes."
Ashley continued, "Who is this person?"
Eugene paused. "An elder."
Ashley thought for a moment. "Can this elder help clarify?"
Eugene was silent. "That's not possible."
Ashley was puzzled. "Why? If this elder can clarify, it would help."
Eugene took a deep breath. "Her involvement isn't possible. And people wouldn't believe it. If it were just photos, it could be clarified, but with the couple's pendant, even you don't believe my words, right?"
Ashley asked, "Then what should we do? If this keeps growing, it'll hurt your reputation."
Eugene looked exhausted. "I'll post online. Whether they believe it or not, it is what it is. I have no relationship with Brenda beyond friendship. If anyone can find evidence of an improper relationship, I'm not afraid."
Ashley was speechless. 'Does Eugene mean he doesn't plan to clarify?'
She suggested, "Why don't you ask that elder again?"
Eugene immediately refused. "Don't think about it. It's impossible. Let's leave it at that."
After saying this, he hung up and posted once again.
[@Eugene: I want to clarify once again that my girlfriend is only Elizabeth. I have no inappropriate relationship with Brenda, and the pendant was not given by me.]
Then he leaned back in his seat and closed his eyes.
Lisa, sitting in the front passenger seat, saw Eugene through the rearview mirror and secretly rolled her eyes. She cursed inwardly, 'Thought he seemed like a good guy, but he's actually a cheating scumbag. He deserves it.'
All six guests were returning to Clifftonshireburg, so the show had booked them on the same flight. When Eugene arrived, boarding had already started. Eugene walked into the cabin and saw Elizabeth and Raymond sitting together. He quickly walked over.
Looking at Raymond, he said, "Raymond, could you please switch seats with me?"
