Chapter 262 Her Only Chance to Continue Her Glory
Darlene hacked up blood and passed out, making Nicholas feel a weird mix of grossed out and kinda sorry for her. Even though he couldn't stand her, he told someone to get her to the nearest hospital. The crowd's mocking stares made him feel super embarrassed, but he couldn't just bail.
This whole mess had cost the company hundreds of millions. They hadn't found a single key gemstone, throwing a wrench in their plans for the next year. No gems, no high-end jewelry. Nicholas had to beg headquarters for more cash to buy whatever gems they could find on-site. But top-quality gems were rare and crazy expensive. They had to pass on a lot of deals because they were low on funds.
Nicholas spent forever trying to score some gemstones, but it was a total bust. His hatred for Darlene hit an all-time high. The bigwigs at Spellscroll Group looked like they'd been hit by a truck, having failed so hard they were now the industry's joke.
Meanwhile, Ingram Group had a decent haul this time, finally getting back to where they were three years ago.
Matthew noticed Elizabeth had picked a bunch of raw stones that turned out to be full of gems.
He asked, "Elizabeth, you selling those gems you found? If you are, sell 'em to our company at market price."
Elizabeth smiled and shook her head. "Nah, I'm keeping them. Got plans for these gems."
Rex chimed in, "Gonna use them to make gemstone protection Spellscrolls?"
Elizabeth nodded. "Yep, it's cheaper than buying gems outside, and the quality's better."
Rex grinned, "Elizabeth, when you finish those Spellscrolls, save a few for us."
Elizabeth smiled back. "We'll see when they're done."
It was super late, and sorting through all those gems took forever.
Matthew offered to help by having the bodyguards watch over the gems, and they could ship them tomorrow.
Elizabeth agreed since she couldn't haul all those gems back to the hotel.
She then drew a few protective Spellscrolls and slapped them onto the safes with the gems, making sure they were secure.
On the drive back to the hotel, Matthew couldn't hold back his curiosity. "Elizabeth, I noticed something. Darlene's crazy appraisal skills only work when Nicole's around, right?"
Elizabeth wasn't surprised Matthew figured it out. Darlene's performance the past couple of days was obvious to anyone with half a brain.
She replied, "Yeah, only when Nicole's around does she have those skills."
Matthew asked, "So, is Nicole the real appraisal master?"
Elizabeth said, "Nope, Nicole doesn't have that ability. But Darlene borrowed her Generational Blessings using some special methods. That's why Darlene can't do without her."
Matthew got it. Darlene's skills were totally stolen.
He pressed further, "So, if Nicole doesn't go back, will Darlene always be like this?"
Elizabeth reassured him, "Don't worry, the shady methods they used are already broken. Now, whether Nicole's with Darlene or not, Darlene won't have those skills anymore. And because she stole others' Generational Blessings and cheated in appraisals, she's gonna face some serious backlash. Just like the past two days' bids, not a single gem was found. That's the backlash causing Darlene's bad luck."
Matthew asked, "So, she's gonna keep having bad luck?"
Elizabeth nodded. "Yep, starting today, her luck's gonna go downhill fast."
Hearing that, Matthew felt a wave of relief. He grinned, "Looks like it's the perfect time to deal with Darlene." Darlene had almost killed Rex, and he wouldn't be satisfied until he got his revenge.
Elizabeth added, "Not only can you get back at Darlene, but you can also mess with the Spellscroll Group."
Given Darlene and her backer's personalities, they lost the appraisal ability and wanting more gemstones, there was only one way left: grabbing power.
So when Darlene got back, she was definitely gonna clash with the Spellscroll family for control and profit.

Matthew got it and smiled knowingly. "The Spellscroll Group could use some chaos."
Before, when fighting with the Spellscroll Group, he still thought of the Spellscroll family as Hannah's relatives. Now, he didn't have to worry about that and could do whatever he wanted.
Matthew thought for a moment and asked, "Will Nicole go back to the Spellscroll family?"
He had already guessed that Nicole's sudden disappearance and escape from Darlene's control had something to do with Elizabeth.
Elizabeth replied, "She won't."
Matthew nodded. "Good."
Meanwhile, at the hospital, Darlene woke up looking weak and drained, with only her assistant in the room. "Where's Nicholas?" she asked.
The assistant replied, "Mr. Spellscroll went to get gemstones."
Hearing about gemstones made Darlene feel like she'd cough up blood again. "I'm hungry. Go get me some food," she ordered, wanting to be alone.
"Okay!" The assistant quickly left.
Darlene grabbed her phone and saw the company's senior management group chat blowing up with accusations and demands. She sneered, remembering how those same people had praised her before. But now, her mind was elsewhere. She opened her messages.
Anonymous User: [Nicole is missing.]
Anonymous User: [The connection between you and Nicole is broken; finding her won't help you anymore.]
Anonymous User: [The curse on Nicole is broken, and most of the Generational Blessings you took will return to her. You're gonna start having bad luck.]
Anonymous User: [What are you doing? You failed in the open bids and the secret bids. You can't keep appraising gemstones like before.]
Anonymous User: [Your task now is to go back to The Spellscroll Group and take control, bringing it under our command. Train a few powerful appraisers for our future use.]
Anonymous User: [I'll send you a talisman to suppress bad luck; wear it all the time. Remember, you must take control of The Spellscroll Group within three months.]
Each message came in one after another.
Thinking about how she could no longer appraise gemstones like before, Darlene felt deep regret and pain. But now she had no choice but to accept it.
Her hatred for Elizabeth and Nicole grew. If she ever got the chance, she'd make them pay.
She replied with a message.
Darlene: [Yes, I will seize power when I return and make The Spellscroll Group ours.]
