Chapter 299 She'll Let Her Be Scolded a Bit More Excessively
Kevin watched Enrique lose his cool and couldn't help but feel a twisted sense of satisfaction. Was Arnold really behind this? If so, Kevin thought, 'Nice one, Arnold!'
Back in the first episode, Kevin got roasted online because of Brenda, and Enrique had a good laugh at his expense. Now, it was Enrique's turn to squirm.
Both brothers were making headlines, getting slammed for being too cozy with Brenda. Enrique's antics were even more over-the-top; if he got off scot-free, it would be a total joke. If they were truly brothers, they should be able to weather the storm together.
Neither of them suspected Richard might've leaked the video. They both pinned it on Arnold.
After Enrique finished his rant, Kevin said, "C'mon, let's head back to the hotel."
Luckily, the streets were pretty empty; otherwise, Enrique would've been super embarrassed.
Enrique tried to keep his cool and asked Kevin, "Do you still remember Arnold's number?"
Kevin had a vague idea but shrugged. "Nah, I don't remember. Let's deal with it when we get home."
By then, it would be a showdown between Arnold and Enrique. These two were the tightest among their brothers. During a rough patch, Enrique had crashed at Arnold's place after passing his Generational Blessings to Brenda.
From childhood till now, these two had pulled off a lot of shady stuff together, even tricking Kevin. Now, because of the video, they might fall out and even throw punches. Kevin thought it would be a hell of a show and planned to call Richard to watch it together.
Enrique held back the urge to call and chew out Arnold. And because of that, he missed out on the real story.
Elizabeth and her crew got back to the hotel and headed to their rooms. She started organizing her haul.
She whipped out a suppression spell scroll and slapped it on a set of Rune stones to keep the bad vibes from leaking out. Otherwise, it would mess with the regular folks around. After that, she drew up another exorcism spell scroll and went to give it to Elbert.
On her way back to her room, she saw Brenda stepping out and heading towards Enrique's door. Elizabeth was chilling at the staircase corner, so Brenda didn't spot her. Elizabeth hung back, taking a few steps back to watch.
Soon, Enrique opened the door. Seeing Brenda, he asked, "Brenda, what's up?"
Brenda, looking a bit pale, said, "I need to talk to you. Can I come in?"
Enrique shook his head. "Better not. If you come in and someone sees you leaving, it'll just stir up more rumors. We don't need that drama again."
He was genuinely freaked out. If more rumors about him and Brenda spread, once he got back to Clifftonshireburg, he wouldn't just be too embarrassed to face his friends and family; his parents would probably break his legs. Plus, he was still salty about what happened before, so he really didn't want to be alone with Brenda right now.
Brenda, looking puzzled, asked, "What do you mean? Are people still talking about us?"
Enrique didn't hold back and told her about the video and the headlines.
Brenda's face fell, and anger flashed in her eyes. No wonder she felt her generational blessings slipping away at night. She initially thought it was because of borrowing those blessings, getting roasted by the audience, or Enrique's disapproval. Turned out, it was Arnold who uploaded the video, making her the target again.
She felt so mad she felt like crying. "How could Arnold do this? He's so petty," she muttered.
Just 'cause she didn't clear things up abroad and made him misunderstand Elizabeth, did Arnold really have to hold a grudge this long? Messing with them like this was just over the top.
Enrique nodded. "Yeah, Arnold's being a real jerk. When we get back, I'm gonna have it out with him."
Brenda agreed, "We gotta find him. What's he getting out of dragging us through the mud? He's so petty, doing stuff that hurts others without any gain; he's messed up."
She figured not only were they getting roasted, but Paul and Betty would be super pissed too. When they got back, who knew if they'd take it out on her again. She felt so wronged.
Then she said, "Enrique, I really did faint from the sight of blood that night. You're not mad at me, right?" She promised, "After the show ends, I'll definitely give the Generational Blessings back to you." She'd find some excuse to delay it later.
Enrique was only half-buying it now. But he had no choice; he couldn't force her to fix it now.
So he nodded. "Alright, after the show ends, we'll go to Zachary for help."
Then Brenda tried to hug Enrique's waist and lean into his arms to act cute. But because of the online drama, Enrique was super freaked out by any close contact now.
He immediately stepped back a few steps, saying, "Brenda, let's keep some distance from now on. Otherwise, if someone sees us, we'll get roasted again."
Plus, he wasn't sure if his current aversion to Brenda's closeness was because of the whole Generational Blessings mess.
Brenda's failed hug made things awkward. Hearing his words, she felt really uncomfortable. But she was also scared of being seen and posted online, getting roasted again.
Every time she got roasted online, her Generational Blessings would weaken a bit, and she couldn't afford to gamble.
So she nodded. "Alright, I'll be cautious. Enrique, do you think the video might've been released by Elizabeth's studio?"
She thought Elizabeth was more likely to pull something like this than Arnold.
Frowning, Enrique asked, "What are you thinking? Elizabeth wasn't even at the hospital that day, let alone filming. How could her studio release it? Could Arnold and Kevin have sent her the video?"
Elizabeth didn't even mess with the two of them. So it was impossible for Elizabeth to release the video.
He added, "I know you have beef with Elizabeth now, but don't blame everything on her." That was a bit too much. He didn't want to say anything more to her, so he simply said, "You seem tired today, go get some rest."
Brenda was silent. Even though that made sense, she felt the online drama was related to Elizabeth. But she couldn't get through to Enrique, and she felt exhausted as she said, "Alright, I'll go rest. You should get some rest too. Good night."
Then she turned and went back to her room.
After both of them closed their doors, Elizabeth came out from the corner and went back to her room. She noticed that the Generational Blessings around Brenda had diminished since the daytime. Coupled with Brenda's furious tone upon hearing the online news, this further confirmed her belief that her judgment was spot on.
As long as Brenda got roasted online, her Generational Blessings would weaken. So she would make sure Brenda got roasted even more.
To further weaken Brenda’s Generational Blessings, she had no choice but to keep dragging Enrique into it. She was curious to see if he would still be as conflicted and reluctant as before after his downfall. It was time to test the depth of their sibling bond. This situation also gave her a chance to dig into the people behind Brenda, as well as Zachary.
So she took out her phone and sent a message to Herman: [Keep dropping big news about Brenda.]
