Chapter 383 It's Just as Well

Elizabeth strolled in and placed her hands on Ryan and Percy's foreheads. Yep, there was definitely a nasty evil aura hanging around in their minds. Percy was a bit better off thanks to his protective artifact, but if they didn't get rid of that evil aura, it was game over.

"Their situation is really bad. We need to get that evil aura out of them ASAP," Elizabeth said.

Alaric sighed. "Yeah, but every divination master I've talked to said it's nearly impossible to remove. If we mess up, they could die instantly. That's why no one could save them."

Elizabeth nodded. "If we yank the evil aura out too fast, it could cause brain death."

The enemy had played it smart. They didn't kill Ryan and Percy outright but also didn't plan on letting them live. Clearly, Ryan and Percy had stumbled onto something big.

The method used to curse them was pretty unique. Without a top-tier divination master, it was a no-go. But the enemy probably didn't know she was already a high-level divination master.

Alaric asked, "Do you have any solutions?"

Elizabeth replied, "Yeah. To save them, I need to set up a formation in this room. Then, using an artifact with evil aura, I'll slowly draw the evil aura out of their bodies. This way, they'll survive."

She added, "Their case is special; we can't rush it. It'll take a full formation cycle, which is forty-nine days."

Alaric's eyes lit up. "As long as they can be saved, the time doesn't matter."

To him, nothing was more important than his men's lives.

He bowed to Elizabeth and said, "Please set it up and save them. Name your price."

Elizabeth smiled. "I'm an unofficial member of the Special Department now, so it's no big deal to help out. No need for payment."

Alaric was full of gratitude. "Thank you so much!"

Even though Elizabeth didn't ask for payment, he wouldn't forget this favor. Next, Elizabeth had Alaric find some gemstones. She carved spell scrolls into the gemstones and set up the formation, using the evil aura stamp as the core. Once activated, the formation would gradually absorb the evil aura from the two. This would not only save them but also upgrade her stamp.

After setting it up, Elizabeth told Alaric, "For these forty-nine days, you need to have someone guard this place to make sure no one disrupts the formation. Once the time is up, they'll wake up."

Alaric nodded seriously. "Got it, I'll arrange it."

Elizabeth asked, "Anything else? If not, I'll head back."

Alaric walked to the table, picked up a file folder, and handed it to Elizabeth. "Your credentials are processed, and your records are in the system. If you run into any supernatural incidents, you can use these credentials to investigate."

Elizabeth took the file folder. "Got it!"

Just then, Alaric's phone rang. He apologized to Elizabeth and stepped out to take the call. Soon, he came back with a grim look on his face.

Elizabeth didn't ask what was wrong, but Alaric spoke up first, "The person Ryan and Percy went to capture is dead."

Elizabeth wasn't too surprised; she had kind of expected it. With Ryan and Percy affected, the special department would definitely dig deep. If that guy didn't die and got caught again, he might spill the beans during interrogation, putting the masterminds at risk.

She asked, "How did he die?"

Alaric said, "His body was found in the mountains not far from where Ryan and Percy had their incident. He had a knife, one that Ryan usually uses, stuck in his chest.

"The department's forensic experts said the guy died from the knife wound. They think he tried to escape, had a fight with Ryan and Percy, used some evil sorcery on them, and then Ryan stabbed him. He ran to the mountains but didn't make it and died."

Elizabeth raised an eyebrow, "Do you buy that?"

It sounded plausible but didn't really add up. The guy didn't treat his wound, ran to the mountains with a knife in his chest, and then just died? Where was the logic in that?

Alaric replied, frustrated, "Of course, I don't believe it, but the forensic department is mainly run by Leander."

This made him really annoyed. Even though they were in the same department, some people always wanted to undermine him. It was also why he and the minister wanted to reorganize the Special Department.

Elizabeth asked, "Where's the body?"

Alaric replied, "They said the guy cast evil sorcery on himself before he died. After the knife was removed, his body decayed. They cremated him on the spot."

He pulled out his phone and showed a video to Elizabeth. "This is the whole process."

Elizabeth played the video.

The first scene showed the guy from the previous neighborhood surveillance, with a knife in his chest. His eyes were wide open, not at peace in death. Then the Special Department personnel began the autopsy. They concluded what Alaric had just said. After removing the knife, the guy's body quickly turned black and decayed. They then cremated him.

After watching, Elizabeth confirmed, "From the video, it's clear this guy didn't die from the knife wound but from the backlash of a curse meant for someone else. Basically, someone used him as a vessel to cast a nasty spell on Ryan and Percy. The spellcaster should've faced the backlash, but because of some manipulations on this guy, the backlash hit him instead, causing his sudden death."

No wonder Ethan didn't kill Ryan and Percy directly; there must have been some restrictions. So he had to use someone else's hand, and that person bore the backlash.

Elizabeth also understood why Ethan had to carefully plan so much to extend his life. If he didn't use Brenda and other mediums, he might be directly punished by God. It was a weakness of the other party. In the future, she could use this weakness against him.

It was fortunate this was the case. Otherwise, Percy, as a medium, might not die, but Ryan would already be dead.

She asked again, "Mr. Voss, did Ryan and Percy find anything before this?"
