Chapter 251 Wouldn't Let Nicole Slip Through Her Fingers
Elizabeth noticed the spark was back in Nicole's eyes. She grinned and said, "Alright, give me your and Darlene's birth dates. And find a way to snag a strand of Darlene's hair. When the time's right, I'll break your link with her. And when it really counts, I'll hit her with a counter-spell, making her cough up the Generational Blessings she swiped from you."
Sure, it was gonna be a pain to counter Darlene and get back the Generational Blessings Nicole handed over willingly. And yeah, it might backfire a bit when Elizabeth did the spell, but she was game. She knew she could bounce back with some rest.
Technically, Elizabeth could Help Enrique get back the Generational Blessings Enrique Brenda borrowed, but honestly, she just didn't feel like it. Enrique wasn't worth the hassle.
Nicole nodded and rattled off the birth dates for her and Darlene. She asked, "So, my next job is to get a strand of Darlene's hair, right?"
Elizabeth nodded, still smiling. "Yep, and try to do it before the gem market kicks off. I wanna counter Darlene right after she uses the Generational Blessings to pick the gems, but before she can buy 'em. Let her watch as others snatch up the gems she wanted. She could've had 'em but lost 'em, making her feel all kinds of regret and pain," she said with a smirk.
Nicole's eyes sparkled. "That sounds awesome," she said.
Then she thought for a sec and added, "So, if she picks the gems but gets countered, and the Generational Blessings come back to me, she'll be outta luck and miss buying them."
Elizabeth chuckled, "Exactly, you're sharp. If that fortune teller hadn't messed with your birth, you'd have had an amazing life. Even better than Nicholas, you could've made a name for yourself."
That was why Nicole's Generational Blessings were so strong, making her a prime target for those who wanted to steal them.
Teachers had always praised Nicole for her smarts, but this was the first time someone had affirmed her so strongly. She smiled. "Thanks! How can I repay you after this is done?" If she could really start fresh and live for herself, Elizabeth would be her savior. She had to repay Elizabeth.
A smile tugged at Elizabeth's lips as she said, "Alright, if I ever need your help in the future, you can repay me then."
Nicole promised seriously, "As long as you need me, I'll be there."
Then, Elizabeth took Nicole's hand. She pulled out a Spellscroll pen from her crossbody bag, dipped it in gold powder, and infused it with her sense of destiny, drawing a Spellscroll on Nicole's palm. Once finished, the Spellscroll vanished into Nicole's hand, leaving her amazed.
Elizabeth said, "This spell scroll will keep you safe for now and stop Darlene from using any dark magic against you."
Nicole clenched her hand, feeling a new sense of security with the spell scroll. She said, "Alright, thanks!"
Elizabeth checked the time and whispered, "I'll head out first, and you follow in a minute or two. After that, we act like strangers. Once you get the hair, find a way to pass it to me. Let's add each other on WhatsApp for easy contact."
Nicole replied, worried, "Darlene checks my phone all the time. She might find out."
Elizabeth reassured her, "No sweat. I'll hack your phone and install a hidden, anti-intrusion system. Our chats will vanish right after we finish, so no one can spy on us."
Nicole nodded and quickly pulled out her phone.
They added each other on WhatsApp, but under Elizabeth's control, her profile pic and details were hidden. This way, Darlene wouldn't notice the new contact when she snooped on Nicole's phone. Then, Elizabeth showed Nicole how to bring up the hidden contact to send messages.
After everything was set, Elizabeth opened the door and walked out casually, heading back to her seat. She started chatting with Raymond.
About three minutes later, Nicole returned and sat next to Darlene.
Darlene glanced at Nicole and asked, "Why'd you take so long?"
Nicole replied, "Had a stomachache, so I stayed a bit longer."
Darlene discreetly glanced at Elizabeth, who was talking to Raymond. Then she said to Nicole, "Lend me your phone to play a game. Mine's dead."
Nicole and Elizabeth had gone to the restroom one after the other. Darlene was worried Nicole might have approached Elizabeth or done something.
Nicole, as usual, handed her phone over nonchalantly.
Darlene took the phone and checked the chat apps and call logs. Finding nothing and seeing Nicole's normal expression, she felt reassured. She wouldn't let Nicole slip through her fingers. She played a quick game on the phone and then returned it to Nicole. Then she closed her eyes to rest but didn't sleep, keeping her attention on Nicole. She wouldn't let Nicole escape her control.
Nicole, having fought with Darlene for so long, knew how cautious and scheming Darlene was. She knew Darlene had noticed her following Elizabeth to the restroom. So, to completely dispel Darlene's suspicions, she had to do nothing.
Nicole leaned back to rest, planning to find another opportunity to get Darlene's hair later.
This made Darlene completely let her guard down.
After arriving at the airport, the group disembarked.
Darlene and Nicholas didn't say goodbye, taking a car to their hotel. Matthew and his group did the same.
After lunch, they rested at the hotel.
Elizabeth and Isaac took a separate car that had been prepared in advance and left the hotel.
The car headed toward the border.
Over three hours later, Isaac stopped the car on a forest path. He said, "This is where he last sent a signal."
Elizabeth said, "Alright, let's see if I can use divination to find him here."
