Chapter 439 Elizabeth Is Really Troublesome
Ethan's face turned dark. "I might be old, but I've got plenty of years left. Watch your mouth, Ms. Clark. Think before you speak," he warned. As long as he could keep soaking up Generational Blessings, he'd outlive Elizabeth for sure.
Elizabeth just shrugged. "If you need to leech off others' Generational Blessings to keep going, then yeah, you've got some time. But with Celestial Condemnation hanging over you, do you really think you can dodge it?" She knew Ethan's karma was coming for him after all the harm he'd caused.
Ethan's scowl deepened. "Ms. Clark, I have no idea what you're talking about. I haven't done anything wrong, so I'm not scared of Celestial Condemnation," he snapped.
He knew Elizabeth was onto him, which explained her relentless questioning. He couldn't understand why she was so direct; if it were him, he'd play dumb and try to outmaneuver her.
But since she already knew his dirty secrets and suspected he was pulling the strings, he wasn't about to let her off the hook. He snorted to himself, 'Young people are always so reckless.'
If Elizabeth could read his mind, she'd definitely roll her eyes and snap back. Didn't she know that if she hadn't figured it out, he might've let her go? Since neither of them was backing down and both had the power to fight, why should she put up with his crap?
Elizabeth smirked. "Mr. Sanders, you're something else. Your lying skills are top-notch."
She switched gears. "Enough with the chit-chat. Let's get back to business. You want to detoxify Zephyr, and you're asking for a treasure like the energy stone as payment. But I don't trust you. You've got that token from the grand evil wizard, so it's easy for you to draw out the poison bug. But who knows if you'll mess with Zephyr and cause more trouble later."
She added with a smirk, "After all, you and your student had a big hand in transferring the poison bug to Zephyr."
Since they were already at odds, she didn't hold back and let him have it. She made sure to reveal she knew his true identity to throw him off and mess up his plans.
With Ethan's personality, he'd want her dead, but he was too cautious to do it himself. The more he valued his life, the more he feared death and acted carefully. But he couldn't let her keep getting stronger, as it would ruin his plans.
So he'd have to quickly scheme to get that grand evil wizard to deal with her.
Her seemingly arrogant and impulsive behavior today was actually a trap for Ethan. When that grand evil wizard showed up, it was anyone's guess who'd come out on top.
Ethan was fuming again. What did she mean by saying he'd do something else? No one had ever disrespected him like this before. "Nonsense, I don't know any grand evil wizard, so how could there be any collusion?" he retorted.
He then warned her, "Elizabeth, if you keep talking nonsense, I won't be nice."
Elizabeth crossed her arms and raised an eyebrow. "Do you think I'm scared? And you're the president of the Divination Association, and that grand evil wizard is the big shot of Eldoria's sorcerers, yet you say you don't know each other. Don't you find that hard to believe? You're really an incompetent president of the Divination Association."
Ethan went quiet. Elizabeth was really good at stirring up trouble for him. He had to deny any connection with the grand evil wizard, which is why he said what he did.
Just as he was about to explain, Elizabeth pulled out some pictures from her phone. She'd dug them up while investigating Ethan earlier. "Still claiming you don't know him? Is the person talking to you invisible? Look, isn't this a photo of you at the Global Sorcerers' Conference, sitting right next to that grand evil wizard? Even if you're the top diviner and look down on regular folks, you can't treat everyone like idiots!"
Her words definitely ruffled some feathers in the Anderson family. They took the phone and saw the photo of Ethan chatting with the grand evil wizard, complete with introductions.
Ethan's claim that he didn't know the guy was clearly a lie. Plus, the Anderson family was shocked to learn that Ethan was involved in transferring the poison bug to Zephyr. Their opinion of him started to shift.
Ethan hadn't expected Elizabeth to dig up photos as proof. Seeing the Anderson family's reactions made him even angrier. The energy stone was crucial to him, and Elizabeth was clearly trying to mess things up.
Ethan shot back, "How can you be sure that grand evil wizard placed the poison bug? Be careful when you talk about Eldoria's grand evil wizard."
Elizabeth sneered. "You must be losing it. The evil wizard caught by the special department has already been identified as a student of that grand evil wizard. He even said his mentor gave him the poison bug. So, what else do you have to argue?"
Ethan was stumped. He almost forgot that Elizabeth had joined the special department. Her sharp words made her a real pain to deal with. And it really bugged him that she kept bringing up his limited lifespan to get under his skin.
He glanced at the Anderson family and changed the subject. "You misunderstand me, and I don't want to argue anymore. Now I just want to know, do you still want Mr. Anderson's poison bug removed?"
Elizabeth's mouth was too sharp, and he couldn't outtalk her. So, he decided to cut to the chase.
Leon and Ruth both turned to Elizabeth. "What do you think?" Even Phineas and Maria nodded in agreement.
Betty butted in, "This is the Anderson family's matter. Why are you asking Elizabeth?" What had Elizabeth done to the Anderson family? Why did they listen to her for everything?
Leon frowned. "Shut it, we didn't ask you."
He then said to Elizabeth, "Don't mind her."
Betty was fuming, but no one paid her any attention.
Elizabeth smiled. "Of course, we can't let him remove it. Ethan has bad intentions. Letting him remove the poison bug would only endanger Zephyr."
The Anderson family trusted Elizabeth more. They looked at Ethan and said, "Sorry, Mr. Sanders, you can leave now."
Ethan's face grew even darker. He said coldly, "Are you sure? If you miss today, I won't come back to help."
He emphasized again, "Elizabeth's strong, but without a special item to draw out the poison bug, she can't remove it either." If it weren't for the energy stone, he wouldn't even be talking to these people.
But the more he acted this way, the more the Anderson family felt something was off about him. Being so eager to help Zephyr remove the poison bug, he must have ulterior motives. However, what he said did make them a bit hesitant.
Leon asked Elizabeth with a frown, "What do you think?"
