Chapter 397 A Brain CT Scan
Elizabeth met Zephyr's scared eyes with a comforting smile. "Hey, at least you won't be disfigured," she said, trying to keep things light. But then she dropped the real bomb, "But besides the shock and your health going downhill, your fertility's gonna take a hit too."
Zephyr's eyes went wide with horror. "So if this poison isn't cured, not only am I gonna die, but I'll lose my ability to have kids before I go?" He always prided himself on keeping his love life clean, but the thought of not being able to father children was a real gut punch.
"Betty is too cruel. She wants to take away my future legacy." He said it loud enough for his grandparents to hear the desperation in his voice. "She won't even let me leave a child behind before I die!"
He felt a bit of relief, though; luckily, Elizabeth could help detoxify the poison. Otherwise, his situation would have been beyond tragic.
Phineas and Maria exchanged worried looks. Just thinking about Betty doing such harm to Zephyr—something that could rob them of future great-grandkids—was heartbreaking. If Betty could do this to Zephyr, who else might she target?
Leon and Ruth's anger flared up. Realizing that Betty aimed not only to hurt Zephyr but also to strip him of his fertility made their blood boil. "Why would Betty hold such a grudge against Zephyr?" Leon demanded, his voice shaking with barely-contained rage.
Linda pouted off to the side, "Only you guys would believe this." She thought the whole thing sounded ridiculous.
Ignoring Linda's dismissive attitude, Elizabeth focused on the task at hand. Skeptics like Linda needed hard evidence, not arguments. "I'll gather more proof," she said, moving to the sofa by the window with her laptop. Hunched over the screen, hidden from the Andersons' view, she started hacking into surveillance systems near the Clark family's villa.
She accessed the stables' footage, looking for any signs of the sorcerer and evidence of their actions. To transfer this poison bug, they had to sprinkle a special powder on Zephyr. So they must have done it at the stables. Sure enough, she found what she was looking for. She saved the incriminating videos separately and returned to the table with her laptop.
Just as she sat down, Richard and his brothers, Arnold and Kevin, burst into the room. They quickly greeted their elders, and Richard's eyes widened when he saw the ailing Zephyr. "What happened?" Richard asked urgently.
Zephyr recounted the events, each word deepening the Clark brothers' realization of their mother's deceit.
They fell silent. No wonder Betty's red spots had been fading these past few days. She had told them that Brenda found a sorcerer who made some new incense to suppress the poison bug. So, the red spots on her body would slowly disappear and return to normal. It turned out the new incense was fake, and she had transferred the poison bug to Zephyr.
Richard turned to his brothers, "I told you before, something felt off with Mom lately, and you said it was a good thing. Now look, she actually did something like this."
Arnold said irritably, "Who would have thought she would target Zephyr?"
Kevin added, "Brenda is trouble, always has been. Mom only makes bad choices when she's around."
They didn't even think about covering for Betty. The Anderson family already knew, and trying to hide it would just be more embarrassing. The focus now was on fixing the mess.
Phineas, looking deeply frustrated after hearing the Clark brothers, asked, "Did your mom really get poisoned and have red spots all over her body?"
Richard nodded, "Yeah, but her skin's been getting a lot better these past few days."
Elizabeth pointed to her laptop. "You should check out the evidence now." Everyone gathered around.
She opened the surveillance footage from the road opposite the Clark family's villa. They saw Betty coming out in a car driven by Brenda. Then, at the stables, a middle-aged man talked to a waiter and handed him a paper packet.
The waiter then sneaked into Zephyr's private changing room. Soon after, Betty got out of the car and entered the stables. She met up with the middle-aged man, and then they went to find Zephyr. Finally, Betty deliberately bumped into Zephyr. The middle-aged man hid in a corner, muttering something and making strange gestures—definitely not normal.
Soren, after watching the video, turned to Linda. "Aunt Linda, would Brenda's biological mother come out of the Clark family's villa?"
Linda hesitated, glaring at the grainy footage. "You can't clearly identify her!" She asked Richard and his brothers, "Do you think this is your mom?" She was already unsure.
Richard sighed, "Aunt Linda, this is definitely our mom."
Kevin added, "I even picked up the package with this outfit for her." When the package was delivered, Betty had asked him to bring it in. When he opened it, he saw this outfit. At the time, he thought it was strange that her taste had changed so much. Turns out, she wore it to harm Zephyr.
The words of the two brothers not only changed Linda's expression but also made the Anderson elders look grim.
Linda, grasping at straws, protested, "Even if it is Betty, this doesn't prove she transferred any poison. Zephyr needs a doctor, not these wild accusations."
Ruth's temper flared. "Since Zephyr isn't your son, you don't care! We trust Elizabeth."
Elizabeth smiled, "Thank you for your trust. Actually, proving whether Zephyr has a poison bug in his brain is quite simple. A brain CT scan will show it."
Zephyr smiled bitterly, "I had a brain CT scan before, but it didn't show anything."
Elizabeth explained, "That's because the poison bug hides its presence and has an evil aura that can affect the magnetic field. So it's normal that it didn't show up. But this time, I can stimulate it to make it appear for a while so it can be detected."
Before anyone else could speak, Phineas decided. "Let's proceed with the scan, then." He still held a bit of hope that Betty hadn't put any poison bug in Zephyr's brain. Seeing the results with his own eyes would give him peace of mind.
Elizabeth could guess Phineas's thoughts. This was the normal mindset of a father who loved his daughter. So, Phineas contacted the doctor and arranged for a brain CT scan. The doctor quickly set it up.
Just before Zephyr went in, Elizabeth used her energy to stimulate the poison bug. It became active involuntarily, unable to hide its presence or release its evil aura to affect the magnetic field for three minutes.
After the CT scan, everyone returned to the ward to wait. After a while, the attending doctor came in with the report, looking serious.
