Chapter 473 I Won't Forgive You
At this moment, Elizabeth was at home reading a script. It was originally a TV series she was supposed to shoot with Brenda. Because Brenda's reputation had completely tanked online, the director decided to terminate her contract and recast the female lead.
Elizabeth actually didn't like the original script for this show. After all, the male lead killed his wife to gain more power, only to fall in love with the female lead in the end. The scriptwriter wanted to show how deep the male lead's love for the female lead was, that even a heartless man could become emotional because of love.
But in Elizabeth's view, the male lead was essentially just a bad guy. And the female lead also knew that the male lead killed his wife to gain more power. Not only did she not think it was wrong, but she was also moved by the fact that the male lead became emotional for her.
Especially after the male lead entered the school and met the female lead. Then, even though the female lead knew the male lead had a wife, she still actively got involved with him. This was intentionally destroying someone else's marriage.
Elizabeth initially took this show because she liked the character of the second female lead. After being killed by the male lead, she would seek revenge and kill both the male and female leads. Because Eugene was playing the male lead and Brenda the female lead, Elizabeth took the role. Her original intention was to let them act out their true selves and then get criticized.
Now that Brenda couldn't act, Elizabeth lost interest. She shared her thoughts with the director. However, the director didn't give up; instead, he thought she made a good point. Upon reflection, he also felt that the original script's values were off.
So he asked the screenwriter to revise the script. It was changed to focus mainly on the female lead, who was now the male lead's murdered wife. The director wanted Elizabeth to play the female lead, turning it into a story of the murdered wife's revenge, ultimately surpassing the villains to become the strongest. And in this new script, there was a male supporting role but no male lead. After all, many people now liked shows where either the male or female lead excelled, focusing on career rather than romance.
This kind of script piqued Elizabeth's interest. She had just received the script today and was reading it carefully. Then her phone rang; it was Paul. Since Ethan was arrested, Paul had contacted her, trying to mend their relationship. But she had refused every time. She even told Paul not to call her unless it was important.
Paul was a sensible person and knew not to push Elizabeth too far. So they hadn't been in touch since. Now that he was calling, Elizabeth guessed Paul must have something important, so she answered. Then she heard Betty crying on the other end. This puzzled Elizabeth. She knew Betty had gone to the hospital after being so angry about the online situation that she vomited blood. But given Betty's personality, she should be looking for Brenda, not Elizabeth.
She asked, "What's up?" If it was nothing important, she would hang up; she didn't want to listen to Betty cry.
Then she heard Betty say, "Elizabeth, I'm sorry, I wronged you!" This stunned Elizabeth. It was the first time Betty had apologized to her. But given Betty's character, encountering Brenda's betrayal shouldn't have led her to apologize to Elizabeth.
Even if Betty thought Elizabeth was more genuine compared to Brenda, it would take some time. So what had happened? She bluntly replied, "Your apology is quite shocking."
Betty paused, but this time she didn't get angry. She truthfully said, "I had a dream. I dreamed that you died, and I want to see you. Can you come to the hospital? I want to tell you about the dream so you can be more cautious." She was terrified that the events in the dream would happen again, with the kidnappers shooting Elizabeth.
Elizabeth was surprised that Betty would dream of her dying. If Betty was just apologizing out of guilt and wanted to see her, she wouldn't go. But Betty dreaming of her death was different, and she hadn't done anything to Betty. So she decided to go and see if Betty's dream was about her past life.
Elizabeth was silent for a moment before replying, "Alright, I'll come."
At the hospital, the door to the ward was open. Elizabeth walked in. She saw Paul and the Clark brothers standing there, and Betty was sitting with swollen eyes, staring blankly.
When Betty saw her, her eyes lit up as if she had found something precious she had lost. This gave Elizabeth goosebumps; she really didn't need Betty's care.
As soon as Elizabeth walked over, Betty grabbed her hand excitedly and said, "Elizabeth, you're here."
Elizabeth immediately pulled her hand away and coldly said, "Tell me about the dream."
Seeing Elizabeth like this, Betty felt very sad. She had always taken out her anger on Elizabeth, her biological daughter, but it wasn't that she didn't care. If she didn't care, she wouldn't have been so angry and resentful when Elizabeth ignored her and opposed her. Of course, she had indeed been wrong before.
Betty took a deep breath and recounted the dream. Then she looked at Elizabeth and tentatively asked, "Elizabeth, do you know about the things in the dream? Is that why you don't want to have anything to do with us anymore?" She felt that Elizabeth was too calm, as if she wasn't surprised by the dream at all. Since waking up, she had always suspected that Elizabeth knew about the dream and that was why she cut ties with them.
Elizabeth could see through Betty's thoughts. No wonder Betty insisted on her coming over. She responded truthfully, "Yes! I had the same dream. So I didn't want things to be like in the dream, and I was indeed disheartened by you all, so I decided to cut ties."
She paused and smiled, "This also means my decision was correct."
Before Betty could speak, Enrique asked, "You cut ties with us because of a dream? What if the things in the dream didn't happen?"
Elizabeth raised an eyebrow, "Is the dream the key issue? Didn't I cut ties because of your choices? Tell me, if you didn't know Brenda's true nature and hadn't been hurt by her, if you encountered the kidnapping situation in the dream again, would you choose Brenda or me?"
This question left the Clark family members stunned. Elizabeth didn't wait for their answer and continued, "You would still choose Brenda. That's why I chose to cut ties with you. That was also my decision when I died in the dream."
Betty started crying again, "I'm sorry, we chose Brenda back then because we thought you were stronger. And you knew how to fight, so you had a better chance of escaping."
Elizabeth sneered, "So being strong means being the one abandoned? But the result was, I died! This was your true choice, so why make so many excuses."
Betty knew that Elizabeth, who had been abandoned, wouldn't accept it. She looked at Elizabeth with pleading eyes and said, "I'm sorry, I want to make it up to you. Even if you don't acknowledge me, it's okay." In the dream, she had been too foolish, deceived by Brenda, and lost the genuinely caring Elizabeth. She desperately wanted to make it up to Elizabeth and repair their mother-daughter relationship.
But Elizabeth shook her head, her expression cold and unyielding. "No need. Your so-called compensation is laughable; I don't need it. I said I didn't want to have anything to do with you anymore, and that won't change. I won't forgive you, ever. So don't even think about repairing our relationship."
She looked indifferently at Betty, her eyes devoid of warmth. "If you feel guilty, just do more good deeds in the future and don't bother me. I'm leaving." With that, she turned on her heel without hesitation, her steps firm and resolute. She left behind the stunned Clark family and the heartbroken, dazed Betty, who could only watch as Elizabeth walked away.
