Chapter 418 The Surveillance Video

That day, after the four brothers dumped the responsibility on Loren, they all bailed.

Around dinner time, Betty looked around and noticed none of her sons had shown up. Her face darkened. Brenda took the chance to badmouth her four brothers in front of Betty.

Brenda thought, "Those four are too much; they all ignore me. They seemed pretty happy when I gave them the cold shoulder on purpose. Why do they try to please Elizabeth when she does the same thing?"

Lately, Piper had been coming to Brenda for money, and she had to cover it with what she got from Betty. There was trouble at her uncle's family again, and Piper came to her in tears every day. Piper was very caring toward her, which warmed her heart. Her grandmother often made desserts and secretly sent them to her. Her aunt and others humbled themselves to coax and flatter her, making her feel very comfortable. It also soothed the anger Brenda felt in front of Betty.

So Brenda wanted the Clark Brothers to sponsor tens of millions of dollars to help her uncle's family. But as soon as she hinted at it, they all ran away. Now, she was also very angry with them, thinking they were all clueless.

After Brenda's badmouthing, Betty got even angrier. She took out her phone and called her four sons. One by one, they made excuses to refuse to come for dinner and even mocked her. They implied it was her fault. They claimed they came to have dinner with her out of respect for family traditions, but she treated them like punching bags and didn't see them as her real sons. She even kept scolding them for being ungrateful, hurting their feelings. Since she insisted on this, they had no choice but to be ungrateful. They wouldn't serve her anymore.

Hearing their words, Betty was so angry she almost fainted. She grumbled, "They really are ungrateful. How did I wrong them?" They didn't even want to have dinner with her, yet they had the nerve to talk about respect. Then Betty remembered what her four sons had suggested. So she called Loren to have dinner with her.

During the time away from the Clark Family, Paul hadn't contacted her proactively and had ignored her. Her family was also full of resentment toward her. After she left the Clark Family, none of them had come to show any concern.

Betty was actually starting to regret it. But she was too embarrassed to make the first move to reconcile, so she just let it drag on. Now that Loren was back from a business trip, maybe he could help her return home.

Loren got Betty's call and went to the villa after work. As soon as he walked in, he saw Brenda coming to greet him with a big smile. "Loren, you're here."

After greeting him, Brenda thoughtfully took his briefcase. "Mom is waiting for you in the dining room."

Although Loren was wary of Brenda, he didn't hold any grudge against her. Especially with the recent defections of artists, which made him very embarrassed. Not only were the shareholders of Clark Entertainment dissatisfied with him, but he also heard that some higher-ups in the Clark Group had opinions about him.

On one side was the uncooperative Elizabeth, and on the other was the sensible Brenda. He thought Brenda was better; at least she was obedient and knew how to read the room. Elizabeth was becoming more and more infuriating.

Loren said kindly, "Alright, I'll go to the dining room and take a look."

Seeing that Loren's attitude hadn't changed much from before, Brenda breathed a big sigh of relief. She leaned in close to him and whispered, "Mom is in a bad mood, upset by the other four brothers." Then she badmouthed the four brothers to Loren as well.

After hearing Brenda's words, Loren frowned. "These four guys are getting more and more out of line." How could they say such sarcastic and mocking things to Betty? It was too much.

Brenda said sweetly, "Exactly, it's a good thing you're here."

As they talked, they walked into the dining room. Seeing Loren, Betty's attitude was indeed much better than toward her other sons. She first pulled him aside and asked about his well-being.

Loren, who had never been treated this way by Betty, felt a bit flattered. Then Betty started talking about her difficulties and complaining about her other four sons and Elizabeth. Loren could only comfort her, and by the time the food was served, he hadn't had a chance to eat.

After comforting Betty, the food had gone cold. He realized that coming to have dinner with Betty meant he didn't get to eat anything.

After dinner, Loren stayed with Betty for a while, and feeling hungry, he suggested going back to the Clark Family. But Betty wanted him to stay overnight.

Loren inadvertently saw Brenda's eyes light up and immediately declined Betty's offer. He thought, 'Staying overnight? What if Brenda set her sights on me?' Although he hadn't experienced Brenda's tactics, his brothers' situations were still fresh in his mind. Being cautious wouldn't hurt.

Besides, Loren was genuinely afraid of Betty's nagging and endless complaints about his brothers.

Betty, now seeing Loren in a favorable light and needing his help, didn't insist. Brenda was a bit disappointed; she wanted to spend more time with Loren. But she wasn't in a hurry. Since the other four brothers wouldn't come to have dinner with Betty, Loren would definitely come next. She had plenty of opportunities to get close to him.

That night, Brenda received another call from Piper. She had to go to Betty's room, first giving her a thorough massage and saying all kinds of flattering words. Then she found an excuse to say she needed to see a doctor and got a few million dollars from Betty.

After leaving with the card, Brenda's smile instantly disappeared. After walking a bit, she couldn't help but mutter, "After serving for so long, just a few million dollars to brush me off, so stingy." Her uncle's deficit needed thousands of dollars. Moreover, her previous money had been scammed and she was tight on cash. She also wanted to go shopping properly. This amount of money was nowhere near enough for her extravagant spending.

She turned to look in the direction of Betty's room and pouted, "That bitch, who is she guarding against, not letting me stay on this floor. Hmph, I don't care anymore."

Although Betty seemed to treat Brenda well on the surface, Betty was always guarded against her.

So Brenda felt very uncomfortable and annoyed. But she still needed Betty a lot; otherwise, she would have wanted to follow her four brothers' example and stop serving Betty. Then she unhappily went upstairs to her room and didn't notice the red light flashing on a chandelier in the corner.

This villa originally belonged to Leon, and after Betty asked for it, he gave it to her. Ruth had lived there with her sons for a while, and she habitually installed surveillance in the common areas of the house.

After Leon gave it to Betty, Ruth deleted the surveillance software and reminded Betty that there were cameras installed. But since Betty hadn't lived there before, she didn't care. Now that she was living there, she had forgotten about the cameras and hadn't mentioned them to Brenda.

When Ruth was in contact with Elizabeth, she mentioned it after Elizabeth asked. So the surveillance video of Brenda entering and leaving Betty's room and her change of expression had already been sent to Elizabeth's email.
