Chapter 417 You'll Understand Soon Enough

Richard and the other two felt uneasy under Enrique's gaze. Richard asked, "Why are you looking at us like that?" They all thought the same thing, 'Is Enrique eyeing our protective amulets again?'

Enrique put on a pitiful expression and looked at the three of them. He pleaded, "Richard, Arnold, Kevin, now that Brenda has moved out, she won't be a threat to your Generational Blessings anymore. How about lending me your protective amulets in turns? What do you think?" He knew asking one person directly was hopeless, so he decided to target all three.

Richard forced a smile. "Even though Brenda has moved out, who knows if she might suddenly come looking for us. You're the safest now, staying at home and in the nursing home every day." He had no intention of lending Enrique the amulet, feeling that once lent, it would never come back.

Arnold agreed. "Yeah, Enrique, you're the safest right now."

Kevin chimed in, "And Brenda has already targeted you once; she definitely won't come again. Stop thinking about our protective amulets."

Enrique's face darkened. "Are we even brothers? I just thought wearing the amulet might bring me some good luck."

Richard said, "We can always cut ties, you know."

Arnold said, "Enrique, this protective amulet is as important as my life. If you insist on having it, are you trying to take my life? If that's the case, I don't mind cutting ties either."

Kevin added, "I feel the same way as they do."

Enrique thought he could use brotherly love to get the amulet. What a dream. Did they look like people who could be swayed?

Enrique fell silent. Finally, he said, "I'll remember this, hmph!" In the future, he wouldn't share any good things with them.

Richard and the others didn't care at all. Richard said to the other brothers, "By the way, I'm going to be away for a while, so you guys will have to take care of Mom." He used to think that since Betty was their biological mother, he could tolerate her nagging him to have meals with her every day. But now he had had enough.

Betty not only scolded them every day but also, for some unknown reason, suggested they take care of Brenda more. They couldn't avoid Brenda fast enough, let alone take care of her.

Brenda was even more shameless. At first, she was so arrogant toward them, always acting cold and unwilling to interact. Occasionally, she would even mock them. This actually made them feel relieved. But in the past few days, she might have realized that this tactic didn't work on them.

So Brenda started changing her attitude and pestering them. She even complained about being poor and having all her money swindled away. She wanted them to support her. As far as Richard knew, Betty had been giving Brenda quite a bit of money recently. Who knew what Brenda needed so much money for. Anyway, Richard was absolutely not going to give Brenda any money.

He used to consider Betty's feelings, but now he was heartbroken by her. Since Betty scolded them every day for being ungrateful, he might as well be ungrateful. Otherwise, it would be even more painful to bear the scolding every day for nothing. So Richard decided to go out of town for a while to avoid Betty and Brenda. Let his brothers deal with those two.

Hearing Richard's words, Arnold jumped in, "I gotta write a new song soon, so I'll be crashing at the studio. Loren, Enrique, and Kevin, you guys are on Mom duty." He was done with Betty's drama too. If she wanted to stir the pot, he wasn't sticking around.

Kevin rolled his eyes. These guys were bailing fast. "I'm joining a film crew in a couple of days, so Loren and Enrique, it's all on you." If that made him look bad, so be it. He could live with it.

Enrique's face got even darker. "My back's killing me, and I've already set up to stay at a nursing home starting tomorrow." No way was he dealing with Betty while feeling like crap. He was joining the escape squad too.

Enrique then turned to Loren, who was sitting across from him. "Loren, you're up for Mom duty."

Betty might have scolded them all the time, but she was always sweet to Loren. She'd compare them to him, saying how great he was and how useless they were. So, let her favorite son handle her.

Richard and the others thought this was perfect. Since Betty didn't like them, let her see her golden boy every day.

Richard said to Loren, "Mom loves you the most. If we go, she'll just get mad. But if you go, she'll be happy and eat more."

Arnold nodded. "You're the heir, and you'll get most of the Clark Family's assets. It's only fair you spend more time with Mom."

Kevin added, "You haven't spent enough time with her before, so now you can make up for it."

Loren looked at his brothers, who had suddenly teamed up against him, feeling a bit speechless. "Is it really that big of a deal to have meals with Betty?" They all looked like they couldn't wait to run away.

Richard and the others nodded in unison. "Yes, it is."

Richard even walked up to Loren, patted him on the shoulder, and said, "Loren, it's gonna be tough on you."

Arnold sighed in relief. "Loren, from now on, Mom's all yours." At least he wouldn't have to deal with Betty's growing bitterness.

Enrique added with a smirk, "Loren, you'll get it soon enough." Betty had gotten used to venting her frustrations on them. How long could Loren take it? Eventually, if she had no one else to vent to, Loren would be the target. Enrique doubted Loren could handle it for long.

Loren felt like his brothers were up to no good. He shrugged. "If you guys want to go out or do something, just tell Mom yourselves. If she asks me to hang out, I won't say no."

Richard patted Loren on the shoulder again and smiled knowingly. "That's all we needed to hear." Not only Betty but also Brenda would be Loren's problem now. The other three shared the same sly grin.
