Chapter 326 Unfortunately, It Doesn't Work on Me

Elizabeth mulled it over and figured Betty was coming to see her because of Enrique. It had to be about that divination tool she had.

Kevin saw the reply and couldn't help but chuckle. Elizabeth was sharp; she caught on right away. He then sent a message, repeating what the head of the Divination Association had said.

Kevin: [Mom just wants to borrow the divination tool to curb Enrique's bad luck.]

Elizabeth: [Tell her not to waste her time.]

Kevin knew Elizabeth wouldn't lend it. It was expected; she could be pretty ruthless when she wanted to be.

Kevin: [We can't persuade her, even Dad can't stop her!]

When Betty was in a bad mood, she wouldn't listen to anyone.

Elizabeth: [Then let her come.]

Elizabeth didn't care. She wasn't going to give Betty any face anyway.

Kevin remembered the conversation between Paul and Betty at the hospital. So he reminded her: [Mom has been getting along well with Amy lately. She might be instigated to cause you trouble.]

Elizabeth found it amusing: [She has a mind of her own. If she doesn't want to listen, how could she be instigated?]

Just like before, if Betty hadn't been willing to believe Brenda, how could she always think she was causing trouble? Betty and Amy both had abnormal thoughts; no wonder they could be good friends.

Kevin was silent; Elizabeth meant that Betty was foolish. Upon hearing this, his headache intensified.

In the room.

Elizabeth had just finished chatting with Kevin and was studying Wayne's seal when she heard a knock on the door. Without a second thought, she knew it was Betty. Too lazy to bother with her, she didn't get up to answer the door.

Betty knocked with her assistant for a while, but no one opened the door, so she reluctantly went back to her room. An hour later, she came to knock again.

Elizabeth still didn't open the door.

Betty specifically asked around and found out that Elizabeth hadn't gone out. So she guessed that Elizabeth was deliberately not opening the door. This made her very angry and somewhat aggrieved. She was Elizabeth's biological mother; how could Elizabeth treat her like this? She was so angry that she didn't sleep well all night.

Elizabeth, however, slept soundly.

The next morning, Elizabeth felt refreshed and went to exercise first. Then she went to the restaurant to find the others.

While having breakfast, Kevin asked, "What are we doing to make money today?" Since coming to Aevum City, he and Eugene had been completely relaxed.

Elizabeth thought for a moment and then turned to Zachary, inquiring, "How about we go do some sense of destiny divination to make money?" And she also took the opportunity to subtly probe him further.

Zachary nodded and smiled, replying, "Sure, that's my specialty."

Kevin and Eugene were a bit frustrated; it was another job they couldn't do. They then asked, "What about us?"

Elizabeth said, "We can divide the work. How about you guys try being shop assistants?"

Kevin looked distressed as he inquired, "Can we not try that?" He tentatively and humbly asked, "Can we help attract customers, move tables, and stuff like that?"

Eugene didn't want to act separately either. He just wanted to be with Elizabeth, even if it was just watching her.

Elizabeth said indifferently, "Suit yourselves." She never expected these two teammates to do anything useful. As long as they didn't get in the way, she didn't care. Hearing her say that, the two of them breathed a sigh of relief.

The other two groups were also discussing what to do to make money today.

After breakfast, everyone stood up to leave. Betty walked in with her assistant. Seeing Elizabeth's rosy complexion, Betty felt even worse. She had tossed and turned all night without sleeping well, but Elizabeth looked energetic. Obviously, she was the only one still bothered by the events of the previous night.

Betty walked up to Elizabeth and forced a smile. "Elizabeth, Can we have a talk?"

Elizabeth looked at her coolly. "Mrs. Clark, there's nothing to talk about between us."

Betty's smile faltered; she hadn't expected Elizabeth to shut her down so quickly. She swallowed her anger and said, "It'll only take a few minutes. I have something important to tell you."

Elizabeth sat back down, replying, "Fine, go ahead." She did it on purpose since the live broadcast was on.

Betty was about to speak when her assistant whispered something in her ear. Her expression changed, and she turned her back to the camera. Then she looked at Elizabeth and said, "Can we talk outside?"

She had been so focused on finding Elizabeth that she almost forgot about the live broadcast. She didn't want to be on camera, let alone discuss those matters in front of the live audience.

Elizabeth refused, "If it's important, say it here. If you can't, then save your breath."

Betty's face darkened. "Since it's important, it needs to be said outside." She emphasized, "It's not convenient in front of the live camera."

Elizabeth smiled. "As long as it's not something shady, what's the problem with saying it in front of the camera?"

Betty was at a loss for words. Did Elizabeth insinuate that her words were fishy? Already seething with anger, Betty now felt even more incensed. Why was Elizabeth so aggravating? Just as Amy had warned, a daughter like Elizabeth was here to cause trouble.

She could see that Elizabeth didn't want to talk outside. In front of the camera, she could only hold back her anger and say, "I want to talk about Enrique."

Elizabeth shook her head. "There's no need. I don't want to hear it. And Mrs. Clark, let me remind you, we've severed ties. Please remember, we have no relationship anymore."

Betty hadn't expected Elizabeth to embarrass her in front of so many people and the live broadcast. She said angrily, "How can you be so heartless? No matter what, you are blood-related siblings!"

She looked disappointed and sad, continuing, "He's already so miserable. How can you stand by and do nothing?"

In front of so many people, she wanted to see if Elizabeth could be so heartless as to ignore Enrique. Cutting off connections couldn't sever their blood ties.

Elizabeth sneered, "When they showed no mercy to me before, why didn't you say we were blood-related siblings? Mrs. Clark, Enrique is in such a sorry state because of Brenda. You should go find her."

Then she said meaningfully, "Brenda is indeed a reflection of your teachings. She embodies the same hypocrisy, revels in slandering others, and employs moral coercion."

She hadn't realized before how hypocritical Betty was. Betty deliberately expressed her disappointment and accused her of being heartless in front of the live broadcast, trying to morally blackmail her. No wonder she and Brenda got along so well; they were the same.

She shrugged indifferently and added, "Too bad, it doesn't work on me."

Betty was furious. Elizabeth's words were too harsh. What did she mean by hypocritical? Was she talking about her?

She asked, "Are you really so heartless?"

Elizabeth nodded. "Yes. The items in my possession, if I am unwilling to share them, I would sooner discard than offer them to Enrique. I've picked up this cold-heartedness from you all, after all."

Having been reborn, she just wanted to live as she pleased. No one could influence or morally blackmail her.

She looked at Betty coldly and continued, "So, save your little schemes." With that, Elizabeth got up and left, showing she had no intention of dealing with Betty.

This made Betty feel extremely humiliated. She had never been so humiliated before. Today was the first time, and it was done by Elizabeth.
