Chapter 8
Arthur replied, "The mountain path is too narrow and steep for cars."
Brenda felt a bit anxious upon hearing this. She gave Kevin a determined smile, "I'm fine, Kevin. Let's keep going."
Given Kevin's concern for her, he certainly wouldn't let her continue walking.
Sure enough, Kevin disapproved, "If you keep walking in those shoes, your feet will definitely suffer."
Arthur overheard Brenda and Kevin chatting.
Instead of finding them annoying, he felt a weird sense of joy.
This was just the start, and the drama was already kicking off.
He shrugged. "We don't have a choice; this is the only road to the village."
Kevin frowned. "Can't you figure something out? Can a motorcycle make it up there?"
Before Arthur could respond, Raymond cut in, eyeing Brenda and Kevin. "You knew we were coming to film in a village, and you still dressed like that. Whose fault is that?"
Raymond had purposely worn casual clothes and sneakers.
Except for Brenda, Kevin, and Lisa, everyone else was dressed for hiking.
He continued, dripping with sarcasm, "You didn't prepare before you got here, so why act all high and mighty now?"
Raymond's bluntness left everyone speechless; they hadn't expected him to be so direct.
The other guests thought, 'Guess the rumors were true—Raymond really does have a sharp tongue.'
Kevin's face darkened. "We didn't expect to stay in the mountains!"
Raymond raised an eyebrow. "The production team told us we'd be filming in the countryside. Even if you didn't expect mountain roads, is your outfit really appropriate? Anyone who didn't know better would think you were here for an awards show."
Raymond's remark elicited suppressed laughter from the group.
Brenda, caught off guard by his candid mockery, felt a twinge of hurt.
But the more Raymond treated her this way, the more determined she was to win him over.
With a hint of stubbornness, she said, "I'm fine; I can keep walking."
Elizabeth noticed Kevin's darkening expression and Brenda's teary eyes and silently applauded Raymond.
Eugene, seeing the tension, decided to step in. "She probably didn't expect mountain roads either. It's normal for girls to like wearing dresses and high heels. Talking about it now won't help; we need to find a way to get the two female guests up the mountain."
Raymond wasn't having it. "So, Eugene, what do you suggest we do now?"
Eugene was stumped. How was he supposed to know what to do?
But since he was asked, and seeing Brenda's grateful look, he turned to Arthur. "Can we find a few motorcycles to take the female guests up?"
He made sure to say "all the female guests" to avoid making Brenda seem special, which could affect how the audience saw her.
Arthur apologized, "The mountain road here is pretty steep; motorcycles can't make it up either."
For a moment, everyone was stumped.
Arthur looked around and asked, "Anyone got any ideas?"
Elizabeth chimed in, "It's an easy fix!"
All eyes turned to her, waiting for her solution.
Elizabeth continued, "She probably has flat shoes in her suitcase; she can just change into them."
She added, "Of course, if she didn't bring flat shoes, someone close to her can carry her up the mountain."
She glanced at Kevin, implying that if Brenda couldn't walk, her brother Kevin could carry her.
Kevin was the one who got screwed over big time.
Kevin's face stiffened. It was hard enough for him to walk up himself, let alone carry Brenda. He turned to her and asked, "Brenda, did you bring shoes suitable for walking?"
Brenda cursed Elizabeth for meddling in her mind. She had planned to hold out a bit longer before changing shoes to establish a resilient persona. Now, she had no choice but to pretend she had forgotten.
"Oh, if Elizabeth hadn't mentioned it, I would have forgotten I brought flat shoes."
Everyone was speechless; how could she forget that?
Raymond sneered, clearly not buying it.
Seeing Raymond's expression, Brenda felt even more aggrieved; he was too much.
But she knew the best move now was to find her shoes and change quickly.
She was about to ask the staff for her shoes when Kevin stopped her. "I'll get them for you."
Seeing Kevin's doting manner, Elizabeth wasn't upset. She was happy that Kevin had shown his affection for Brenda on the show.
After all, no one knew yet that Brenda wasn't Kevin's biological sister.
If their relationship were exposed later, Elizabeth wouldn't be the one getting criticized.
Kevin and Brenda weren't related by blood. Their intimate actions might lead people to think of another kind of relationship.
Elizabeth had noticed at the Clark family that Brenda was very possessive of her five brothers and habitually liked to have intimate physical contact with them.
This was a live show, so Brenda and Kevin's intimate actions would naturally be revealed. The more they were praised for their sibling bond now, the harsher the criticism would be later.
Normal sibling relationships weren't like this.
Elizabeth wanted those who had criticized her to see who was truly seducing others.
