Chapter 124 He Won't Help Brenda Anymore
Angela saw Hubert not only didn't give her the pendant but also coldly closed his eyes. She had expected this but still hoped for a different outcome.
Reality hit her hard; Hubert was heartless and had no compassion for her.
She wondered if Hubert would give the pendant to Rebecca if she needed it.
The more she thought about it, the sadder she got, but she couldn't let go.
She curled up on the sofa, biting her lip and crying.
Alfonso said he needed to prepare and pick someone up, so he left the office.
Paul looked between his three sons and Brenda.
Arnold and Enrique had taken the bracelet from Richard and given it to Brenda, which surprised him.
They acted like it was justified, leaving him speechless.
He wondered if, in a life-or-death situation, his sons would choose Brenda over Richard.
He reflected on when this all started.
Had Brenda's influence on his sons grown that much?
He thought of his biological daughter, Elizabeth.
He wasn't home much, and Brenda was adopted, so they weren't close.
After Elizabeth returned, Betty had often said Brenda was more obedient, while Elizabeth was not, that Elizabeth liked to take Brenda's things and bully her, and that Elizabeth, a real Clark family lady, wanted to drive Brenda out and strip her of her identity.
He feared Elizabeth had been raised without proper manners.
So he had let Betty and his sons handle it.
He thought of teaching Elizabeth to be a true high-society lady, to make her see there was no need to focus on Brenda.
But now he wondered if he was wrong.
Was Betty and his sons' dissatisfaction with Elizabeth just because she bullied Brenda?
Maybe Brenda had spoken ill of Elizabeth behind her back.
After Elizabeth left the Clark family, he realized she was straightforward.
She would retaliate openly if she had a grudge and didn't harm people behind their backs.
If she couldn't stand Brenda, she would have openly targeted her.
Elizabeth even had a bad attitude toward him, her father, and her brothers. How could she be afraid of Brenda tattling?
Paul didn't say anything, but his gaze toward Brenda grew colder.
He needed his secretary to investigate Brenda and his sons more closely.
If Brenda had led his sons astray, the Clark family couldn't keep her.
And was there a hidden agenda behind Alfonso's suggestion to adopt Brenda?
Brenda noticed Paul's probing gaze.
She looked up and softly called, "Dad."
Paul's gaze returned to normal, showing concern. "Brenda, are you feeling better now?"
Seeing his concern, Brenda sighed in relief.
She nodded obediently. "I'm feeling better."
She always wanted to get close to Paul, but he seemed to have a sixth sense for sidestepping any unnecessary intimacy.
She knew Paul was the most important in the Clark family.
To continue living the high-society life, she couldn't afford to make Paul angry.
She thought about her brothers snatching the bracelet for her and felt nervous.
Paul valued blood relations more than her brothers did.
She wondered if taking Richard's bracelet had upset Paul.
So she suppressed her frustration and said, "I'm not in that much pain anymore. Richard can keep the bracelet."
To make a good impression on Paul and secure her future, she had to endure.
She tried to hand the bracelet to Richard, but Enrique pushed it back. "Richard's a man; he can handle a little pain. You keep it."
Arnold agreed, "Yeah, you've always been afraid of pain. Richard shouldn't be fighting with his sister over this."
Richard was furious and wanted to strangle his two brothers.
He glared at them coldly. "You two really know me well. Hope you can say the same when it's your turn."
These two idiots were beyond saving.
He wouldn't remind them and would even help facilitate it, so they could experience Brenda's ‘gratitude’ in the future.
Arnold and Enrique thought Richard was being petty, but under his dark gaze, they felt uncomfortable and didn't retort.
Hubert opened his eyes and glanced at them, amused. Brenda had clearly taken control of the Clark brothers.
No wonder she forced Elizabeth, the biological daughter, to break ties with the family.
Brenda wasn't just being raised by the Clark brothers for fun; she was toying with them.
And seeing Richard's state, he believed Richard didn't need any reminders.
Brenda was also afraid of Richard's gaze, especially with Paul watching.
She handed the bracelet over again. "Richard, you take it."
Richard didn't take it, just looked at her. "Are you really willing?"
Brenda was stunned, then smiled. "Of course, I'm willing for you, Richard."
Richard let out a sarcastic laugh.
The more it hurt, the calmer he became, and the clearer he saw things.
Brenda was obviously enduring the pain and return the bracelet because of Paul.
But since Brenda was returning it, why shouldn't he take it?
He reached out to take the bracelet.
But Arnold grabbed his hand. "Richard, if you're uncomfortable, just squeeze my hand."
He even extended his other arm. "Or you can bite my arm."
Richard was silent.
This was beyond stupidity.
These two idiots were truly beyond saving.
He forcefully shook off Arnold's hand. "Get lost, don't disgust me."
Paul said, "Brenda, Richard is a man; he can endure this pain. You keep the bracelet."
Richard looked at Paul in disbelief, his eyes full of "you've also been infected with stupidity."
Paul looked at him meaningfully. "Richard, am I right?"
He couldn't help but feel bitter. Was this how Elizabeth was treated, leading to her breaking ties with them?
He said this partly to avoid arousing Brenda's suspicion and partly to let Richard experience this feeling.
Based on what he had found out, Richard had treated Elizabeth the harshest.
Richard didn't dare to refute, so he gritted his teeth and said, "Yes."
Then he looked at Brenda, his eyes even colder. "Brenda, you're a girl; how could I fight with you? You keep the bracelet."
In his head, he swore that he wouldn't help Brenda anymore.
