Chapter 103 Like a Husband Abandoned by His Wife

When Abigail walked in, the atmosphere in Grace's bedroom felt heavy and tense. Everyone looked upset, especially Roman and Elaine.

Grace's face lit up when she saw Abigail. "Abigail, come here."

Abigail went over, letting Grace hold her wrist. "Mom, are you feeling better?" she asked, clearly worried.

Grace dismissed it with a wave. "I took some medicine. They're just overreacting."

Abigail held Grace's hand tightly. "Mom, please don't hide things from us. If you feel unwell, tell Andy."

With Abigail there, the room's mood lifted a bit.

Elaine pursed her lips, feeling a bit resentful. Despite being a daughter-in-law herself, she saw how Grace favored Abigail.

Elaine had given the White family a son, while Abigail hadn't done anything for them. When Roman took charge, the first thing she would do was kick Abigail out!

Elaine was lost in her thoughts when a cold, sharp gaze from Gregory snapped her back to reality. She quickly looked down, not daring to meet his eyes.

Gregory and Abigail decided to stay the night to keep an eye on Grace. The family doctor also stayed to ensure Grace's comfort.

Gregory had his own room at the White Manor. Though he hadn't stayed there in a while, the maids kept it clean and ready.

After everyone left, Abigail stayed to chat with Grace.

Grace asked, "Abigail, how are things with Gregory? He hasn't been giving you a hard time, has he?"

Abigail smiled. "He treats me very well."

Grace smiled too and sighed. "Before he married you, I thought he'd be alone forever."

Fate had a way of working in mysterious ways. Gregory was different from birth. He didn't cry or fuss, and by age three, he hadn't spoken a word. Doctors couldn't find a cause. Later, they realized he could speak but chose not to. He'd faced too many bad things early on—poisoning, assassination attempts, kidnapping—and grew to see through people’s pretenses. He became reclusive, often hiding alone.

Things changed when Abigail was born. Grace looked at her and said, "You know, Gregory was the first to hold you after the nurse."

Abigail was surprised. "Really? My mom never told me that."

Grace nodded. "Your mom and I were close. We had plans that day, but she didn't show up or answer her phone. I sent Gregory to check on her, and he found her at the bottom of the stairs, covered in blood."

Abigail listened quietly, feeling a chill. She realized she was born premature, which explained why she was weak and often sick as a child.

Grace continued, "When you were little, you loved playing with Gregory. You'd only let him and your mom hold you; you'd cry if anyone else tried."

Abigail blushed, feeling shy. She never knew she was so attached to Gregory as a child. She always thought they had no connection, but it turned out he had been there for her from the start.

Seeing Abigail's shy expression, Grace laughed.

She leaned in and whispered, "Abigail, how far have you and Gregory gotten?"

Abigail's cheeks turned red, and she looked away. "Mom, what are you talking about? I don't understand."

Grace chuckled, rubbing her hair. "Why are you being shy with me? Gregory may seem cold, but he's responsible. He's different with you; try to understand him more."

Abigail nodded. She realized Gregory was different from what she thought and was starting to like him.

When Abigail returned to the room, Gregory had just come out of the shower. He was shirtless, his strong chest and abs on display, with a towel wrapped around his waist. His hair was still wet, and water droplets slid down to his collarbone.

Abigail glanced quickly and blushed. She covered her cheeks and turned away. "Mr. White, why didn't you put on clothes before coming out?"

Seeing her shy reaction, Gregory felt like teasing her. He put down the towel, walked over, and hugged her from behind. "I'm in my room. Why should I be covered up? Are you feeling shy, Abigail?"

Abigail shook her head. "No, I'm not!"

Though she had seen abs before, her face remained flushed.

Gregory found her reaction cute and kissed her cheek. Abigail froze, caught off guard.

Gregory turned her to face him, gently caressing her cheek, his eyes full of tenderness.

"Mr. White, it's late. Time to sleep!" Abigail's cheeks were red as she broke free.

Gregory raised an eyebrow, smiling, and walked to the bed. "Since you're so eager, I'll satisfy you."

Abigail was startled by his words and ran straight into the bathroom. "Mr. White, you should sleep alone. I'm going to sleep with Mom later."

Gregory's smile faded. "What?"

Abigail winked at him playfully. "I told Mom I'd sleep with her tonight. I came back to inform you."

'Why is my mom competing with me for Abigail? Is she really my mom?' Gregory felt frustrated.

When Abigail came out, he hugged her again. "Can you not go?"

His tone was like a husband about to be abandoned, his eyes full of grievance.
