Chapter 182 Restraint
When Abigail stepped out of the fitting room, she caught the tail end of the conversation. Her eyes widened in disbelief.
How could Jessica have the nerve to say that?
Back when she and Roman were engaged, Roman used Gregory's card to shower Jessica with gifts.
They never asked for that money back, which was already pretty generous.
And now she wanted a loan?
Abigail quickly walked over and stood in front of Gregory. "If you want to borrow money, talk to me. He listens to me."
Seeing Abigail, Jessica knew things were about to go south. She looked embarrassed and wished she could disappear. "Abigail, I'm only asking because I'm really desperate. I'll pay it back as soon as I can."
Abigail sneered, "Then pay back what you owe first."
Jessica was speechless and looked to Gregory for help, hoping he'd back her up since she was now part of the White family.
But Gregory didn't even think about helping her. He said seriously, "Yeah, Abigail's right. She has the final say."
Jessica had no choice but to reluctantly return the clothes she liked so much and storm out angrily.
Before leaving, she shot Abigail a nasty look and warned, "Just you wait."
Watching her leave, Abigail shook her head.
Jessica was still the same, always blaming others.
Abigail looked at Gregory. "Let's go too. I'm tired of shopping."
"Okay, I'll go pay." With that, Gregory asked Abigail to change the clothes first and then took them to the counter.
After paying, he carried the shopping bags in one hand and held Abigail's hand in the other. They found a restaurant to have dinner before heading home.
When they got home, Abigail was so tired she collapsed on the bed without even changing her clothes. All she wanted now was a good sleep, and she didn't want to move at all.
Gregory walked in, put down the shopping bags, and came over. "Are you tired?"
"Yeah." Abigail opened her eyes, looking at him. "I just realized today how exhausting it is to run a company. You must be really tired usually."
Seeing that she cared about him, Gregory felt a warm feeling in his heart.
He sat down on the bed and placed Abigail's feet on his lap, gently massaging her ankles with his large hands.
As he massaged, he said, "Actually, I'm used to it by now, so I don't feel that tired."
When he first took over the company, it was really tough. Not only did he have to face a lot of doubts, but he also had to handle a ton of work and be super busy every day.
But he had no choice because, at that time, someone had to support the White Group.
Although Gregory didn't express it explicitly, Abigail could feel that despite his glamorous appearance, life hadn't been easy for him over the years.
She stared at Gregory for a while, then got up and hugged his waist tightly. "You have me now. No matter what happens, I can help you share the burden, so don't bear everything alone."
Gregory suddenly smiled, hugged Abigail back, and rested his chin on her shoulder, gently rubbing it.
This was the first time someone told him he didn't have to be so tired. Others would only tell him to get stronger and not complain about the hardships.
Only Abigail truly cared about whether he was tired, exhausted, and needed someone to share the burden and comfort him.
Abigail lay in Gregory's arms, listening to his strong and steady heartbeat.
She blinked and looked up at him. "You look really handsome today."
Gregory raised an eyebrow. "What? Am I not handsome on other days?"
Abigail playfully punched his chest, laughing. "I mean, you handled Jessica really well today, and you deserve some encouragement."
Gregory chuckled, "Is it just verbal encouragement?"
Abigail looked up and gently kissed the corner of Gregory's lips. "Is this enough?"
Her eyes were clear and bright, with a hint of desire that could stir anyone's heart.
Gregory's Adam's apple bobbed, his gaze dropping to her soft, red lips, and he leaned down to kiss her.
To make Abigail more comfortable, Gregory's large hand gripped her slender waist, pulling her onto his lap.
Abigail wrapped her arms around Gregory's neck, melting into his kiss.
His actions weren't exactly gentle, but they made her heart race.
Eventually, Abigail felt like she could hardly breathe.
Gregory released her lips, shifted positions, and lay down on the bed with her.
Holding each other, Abigail could clearly feel his heartbeat and his heavy, restrained breathing.
Her cheeks turned bright red from shyness, like blooming flowers radiating beauty.
Gregory tried to calm his inner desires but felt tempted again.
He sighed helplessly, got out of bed, and headed to the bathroom.
"I'll let you off tonight, but next time won't be so easy," Gregory said.
Last night had been too exhausting, and he was worried Abigail's body couldn't take it.
Watching Gregory's quick departure, Abigail couldn't help but laugh.
Soon, the sound of water came from the bathroom.
Abigail's already flushed cheeks deepened in color.
The next morning, Abigail got up early, put on light makeup, and hurriedly prepared to leave.
Gregory came downstairs and called out to her, "Have breakfast first. There's still time. I'll take you."
Abigail said, "No need. You're so busy. I can drive myself."
"I'm not that busy, and I wouldn't be at ease if you went alone." Gregory frowned, holding Abigail's hand and making her sit at the dining table.
Breakfast was already prepared: a sandwich and a glass of milk.
The milk had cooled, so Gregory went to heat it up.
Abigail had no choice but to start eating.
Under Gregory's watchful eye, Abigail drank half a glass of milk and finished the sandwich.
Gregory smiled, wiped her mouth, and then drove her to the company.
Today's main task was to interview new designers.
Previously, DM's designers had been poached with high salaries, leaving only one or two people.
Because of this, DM's position in the fashion industry had been declining.
To turn things around, they needed to hire excellent designers and create outstanding works.
After the recent online buzz, people had an impression of DM.
Many designers, knowing that Abigail was the famous designer JY, came to submit their resumes.
After entering the company, Susan immediately handed over a stack of resumes. "Ms. Martin, these are all the candidates for today's interviews. Please review them first."
Abigail took them and walked toward the small conference room.
A lot of candidates had already gathered at the door of the small conference room. Seeing Abigail, they all stood up to greet her. "Ms. Martin, hello."
Abigail nodded and quickly walked in.
There were three interviewers in total: the head of the HR department, the director of the design department, and Abigail.
The two greeted Abigail and then started today's interviews.
The interview process didn't go very smoothly. Some candidates stuttered when answering questions, while others were too arrogant.
A few also lacked the necessary skills but still complained that DM's salary was too low.
Hearing these comments gave Abigail a headache. She picked up the last resume. When she saw the person in the photo, she was suddenly stunned.
At that moment, a warm and steady voice sounded in her ear, "Hello, it's nice to meet you all. Ms. Martin, we meet again."
