Chapter 169 David Gets Dismissed
David's throat tightened, his eyes darting around nervously.
"This is all Abigail's setup. I don't owe anyone an explanation!" David snapped.
Abigail sauntered out from behind the lady, her eyes gleaming with amusement. "That's not how it works, David. If you're claiming I framed you, you better have some proof, right?"
David shot her a venomous look. "You did this on purpose!"
Abigail arched an eyebrow and gave a slight nod. "Yeah, I did it on purpose. But I can back up every word I said. Can you?"
Of course not! No one knew better than him that all those plagiarism accusations and trending topics on Twitter were bought and paid for.
And as for the shares, Abigail was right—he had set her up.
Seeing David at a loss for words, the shareholders started to catch on.
"David, we thought you were just incompetent, but now it seems you're downright despicable!"
"Having a CEO like you is a disgrace to DM!"
"If Michelle were still here, we'd be thriving. Ever since you took over, we've been cleaning up your messes!"
Even though David was still the CEO, the dissatisfaction within the company was growing.
Shareholders valued loyalty but prioritized profits. Since Michelle's death, they'd been losing money.
They hadn't found a suitable replacement before, but now David had pushed them too far.
As the shareholders' anger grew, David felt a wave of panic.
His shoulders shook, and he looked at Abigail almost pleadingly. "Abigail, I'm your father. Do you really have to be this ruthless?"
Abigail studied him, her voice cold. "Father? Then why you had someone steal my work to frame me for plagiarism? When you bought fake accounts to slander me, did you remember you were my father?"
David's face twisted for a moment. "I didn't mean it. I was just scared you'd take over the company. Can you forgive me?"
Abigail let out a bitter laugh. David sure knew how to play the victim when things went south. But she wasn't about to let him off the hook.
"What if I say no?" Abigail challenged.
He gritted his teeth, his eyes burning with resentment. "Abigail, don't push it. I've dedicated years to this company. You can't just take it away with a few words."
Abigail remained calm. "Let's see about that."
David sneered and turned to the shareholders. "Are you all idiots? Abigail's just a soon-to-be graduate. You really want her running the company? Do you want to speed up our bankruptcy?"
The shareholders exchanged uneasy glances.
"Yeah, Abigail's just a rookie. We can't rely on her."
"She has no real-world experience, just theory. Totally unreliable."
"She's using us as a stepping stone! I'm not on board with this!"
As the room descended into chaos again, David smirked and shot Abigail a smug look.
Just then, the door swung open, and a tall, handsome man walked in.
Seeing his face, everyone was stunned.
A man asked, "Mr. White, what are you doing here? This is DM's meeting room!"
Gregory strolled over to Abigail, standing tall, and gave the speaker a cool glance. "I'm here to pick up my wife. Got a problem with that?"
The man, meeting Gregory's icy stare, immediately clammed up.
David stood there, dumbfounded, a sense of dread creeping up his spine. "Mr. White, this is DM's meeting room. You need to leave!"
Gregory, holding Abigail's hand, looked up with a smirk. "Mr. Martin, you're mistaken. The one who should leave is you."
David hadn't yet processed what Gregory meant when the sound of footsteps echoed from outside the door.
A group of uniformed police officers walked in and asked, "Who's David?"
David swallowed hard. "I am."
The cops zeroed in on him, quickly stepped forward, and slapped handcuffs on his wrists. "You're under arrest for economic crimes."
The sudden turn of events left everyone in shock. Even David was at a loss.
He struggled, his face red with anger. "What economic crimes? I've never done anything like that. This is a setup!"
The police gave him a cold look and explained, "You've been reported for tax evasion, embezzlement, and misappropriation of company funds. We'll investigate. Please cooperate."
Hearing this, the room erupted into chaos.
The shareholders exchanged bewildered glances, unable to believe what they were hearing.
Misappropriating company funds? The company wa the result of everyone's hard work!
After David was hauled away, the tension in the room lingered.
Only Abigail and Gregory seemed unfazed.
Even though Abigail held shares in DM Group, she remained calm.
The money David embezzled probably hadn't all been spent yet, and some of it could be recovered.
Plus, she'd done her homework on DM and knew it wasn't a lost cause.
She believed it wouldn't be long before DM was back on track.
But that depended on everyone working with her.
Abigail said, "I understand how you feel right now. The law will deal with David's actions. Now, let's officially start the meeting."
The shareholders barely glanced at Abigail, not taking her seriously.
To them, she was just an inexperienced rookie, not to be trusted.
Abigail had expected this. She continued, "I've studied DM's performance over the years. DM started with clothing and jewelry, but recently, David's been sinking money into real estate."
Her voice gentle yet steady, like a summer breeze calming everyone's nerves.
Gradually, the room quieted down, and the shareholders became engrossed in Abigail's presentation.
Despite her youth, Abigail had a sharp business mind.
In just an hour, she not only analyzed DM's performance trends but also pinpointed the reasons for its decline.
Her logic was clear and methodical.
By the end, the shareholders' impressions of Abigail had changed significantly.
