Chapter 70 Rejection
Things happened so fast that Abigail was stunned.
When she snapped out of it, she noticed everyone at the restaurant staring at her with curiosity.
Abigail frowned, her eyes cold. "Who are you? I don't think we've met."
The man smiled. "I'm Robert Williams. I've liked you for a long time. Will you marry me?"
He pulled out a ring from his pocket.
Even though Abigail wasn't a jewelry expert, she could tell the diamond was fake.
The ring looked shiny, but the fake diamond made it look cheap.
It probably wasn't even worth 20 bucks.
Abigail's frown deepened. She'd had people confess their love before, but this was the first time someone proposed with a fake diamond ring.
She searched her memory and couldn't recall ever meeting Robert.
But the onlookers, unaware of the truth, started cheering.
Someone shouted, "Marry him!"
Soon, many joined in, looking at her with envy and well-wishes.
Abigail knew they meant no harm, but she felt uncomfortable.
So, she said firmly, "Sorry, I refuse."
Robert had been confident, thinking Abigail would be moved to tears and say yes.
He believed that girls werre vain. Flowers and a diamond ring should do the trick.
Like his ex-girlfriend, who had an affair with her boss for a promotion.
He didn't expect Abigail to reject him. 'Why is this different from what that woman said? Isn't she supposed to be inexperienced and timid?'
Robert felt humiliated, his face darkened, but he still looked at Abigail with deep affection. "Abigail, I'm sincere. I will make you happy. Will you marry me?"
Tricia suddenly stood up, glaring at Robert. "Who are you? Do we know you? How dare you propose? We've never seen someone so persistent!"
Robert's face stiffened, and he said earnestly, "Abigail, what don't you like about me? Can I change?"
Tricia wanted to curse at him, but Abigail stopped her.
She looked Robert up and down. "Whether it's your looks, height, or manners, you can't compare to my husband. Why would I choose you?"
"Husband?!" Robert was dumbfounded.
That woman didn't tell him Abigail was married.
If he had known, he wouldn't have proposed.
That woman deceived him!
Unbelievable!
Compared to his anger, Abigail was calm. "Yes, my husband is outside, and we have no plans to divorce. You should give up."
Robert's face twitched, and he gritted his teeth.
Although he was unwilling, he still wanted to try again, thinking about the money that woman promised.
"Husband? Could it be made up? Aren't you still a college student? It's impossible to get married so early."
Abigail's eyes narrowed. "Whether it's made up or not, what does it have to do with you? Why are you so sure I'm not married? Who sent you?"
Robert felt nervous, his eyes flickering.
Abigail was so smart, seeing through it so quickly.
He felt flustered but still pretended to be calm. "No one sent me. You don't have a husband. Why are you lying to me? Do you look down on me?"
Abigail didn't respond but kept pressing, "Let me guess, who cares so much about me? Jessica Martin? Or Kayla Smith?"
Robert got really nervous.
That woman was indeed named Smith.
Abigail watched his reaction and quickly figured out it was Kayla's doing.
She asked, "Did the person who found you claim to be my mom, wanting to find me a good husband, thinking you're great?"
"How did you know?" Robert blurted out instinctively.
Realizing what he said, he quickly covered his mouth, feeling guilty.
He had promised that woman he wouldn't betray her, or he wouldn't get the money.
The reward she promised was too generous—30 thousand dollars!
Robert usually gambled with his friends and lost all his money.
When that woman found him, he was being chased for debts.
She not only helped him pay off the debts but also said that if he completed one task for her, she would give him more money.
Of course, he agreed without hesitation.
Who wouldn't want such a good deal?
At first, he thought the woman she wanted him to marry was either a fool or physically disabled, but he could endure it for the money.
But when he saw the photo, he was stunned.
It was such a beautiful woman, with delicate features, a perfect figure, and smooth skin.
All the beautiful words he could think of weren't enough for Abigail.
Today, he just came to eat, but unexpectedly, he ran into Abigail.
Maybe it was fate, he thought.
So he quickly called a waiter to buy flowers and a diamond ring.
Abigail sneered, her eyes full of mockery. "You were deceived. That person is not my mom. My mom passed away long ago."
It seemed Kayla couldn't wait any longer, even coming up with such a method.
But, thinking about it, this was indeed something Kayla could do, not surprising at all.
This matter would definitely not end like this!
"That's impossible! That person knew your information and gave me your photo!" Robert was flustered.
He didn't know the Martin family's private affairs, only knowing that if he didn't marry Abigail as required, he wouldn't get the money.
Abigail sneered sarcastically, raising her voice. "That person is not my mom at all. A woman who went from being a mistress to my father's wife has no right to decide my marriage."
Many guests around were watching this proposal.
They thought it was a loving couple and expected to witness a beautiful love story.
Unexpectedly, there was such a big twist!
From a mistress to a legitimate wife, arranging a marriage for her husband's ex-wife's daughter with a complete stranger.
Everyone could understand her intentions.
Although the man looked decent, he was completely unmatched with Abigail.
Even though Abigail didn't like to dress up, she could still amaze countless people with her natural beauty.
Looking at her clothes and handbag, all were famous brands, indicating a wealthy family.
So, many onlookers began to think this was a scheme by the stepmother to seize the family property.
Robert also received many disdainful looks.
He was deeply hurt by these looks. Gritting his teeth, he took a step forward to grab Abigail's hand. "I don't care if it's your real mom or stepmom. She has decided to marry you to me, and you must agree!"
