Chapter 194 Unable to Look Directly
Abigail had just wrapped up a meeting and was about to take a breather when her phone buzzed. It was Tricia.
The moment she answered, Tricia's sobs filled her ears. "Abigail, that jerk Henry yelled at me! You gotta do something about it!"
Abigail was taken aback. "Henry? Why would he yell at you?"
Feeling a bit more confident, Tricia spilled the whole story.
"I swear, he did it on purpose. I haven't done anything to him! Why does he treat me like this? It's infuriating!"
After hearing the details, Abigail felt a bit stuck. "Tricia, if things don't work out, you can always come work at my company. I promise it won't be any worse than VirtualBank."
Even though DM mainly dealt with clothing brands, they had their hands in other industries too.
Tricia pouted, "I'd rather not. I'll try to find something on my own first. If I can't, then I'll ask for your help."
Abigail sighed, "You don't need to be so formal with me."
Tricia felt a bit better but still said, "I just want to see how far I can go on my own."
Knowing Tricia's desire to prove herself, Abigail didn't push it. "If you run into any trouble, you better ask me for help. Don't try to handle it all by yourself."
"Okay!" Tricia agreed with a smile.
After hanging up, Abigail thought for a moment and then called Gregory.
He picked up quickly, his deep voice sounding pleasantly surprised, "Abigail?"
"Hey, Mr. White, are you busy?"
Gregory's voice was like a soothing wave, making Abigail's heart race.
Gregory chuckled, "Not busy at all."
In the White Group's conference room, all the employees stared in shock at Gregory, who was smiling gently.
'Boss, do you hear yourself?'
'Not busy?'
'Weren't you the one who called an emergency meeting?'
'Weren't you the one who said to wrap it up quickly and get back to work?'
'Why does your attitude change when it comes to Mrs. White?'
'Is this the power of love?'
Gregory ignored their looks, holding his phone tightly, his deep blue eyes sparkling.
He cleared his throat and asked, "Abigail, do you miss me?"
His voice was so soft it could melt butter, like he'd drop everything and run to her if she said "yes."
Abigail's cheeks turned red, and she shyly said, "Mr. White, don't say that. I have something important to discuss with you."
Gregory felt a bit let down. "So you don't miss me, huh."
His voice got even deeper, tinged with sadness.
Hearing this, Abigail's heart tightened, and she said shyly, "I do miss you a little, but I also have other things to discuss."
This brought Gregory from the depths of despair to cloud nine. His mood lifted, and he couldn't help but smile, his joy evident.
He completely ignored the latter part of her sentence and said with a grin, "I knew I was in your heart."
The employees all facepalmed in embarrassment, unable to watch.
Their CEO, acting all cute and shameless in front of his wife!
They couldn't bear to look!
Abigail was also at a loss and got straight to the point, "Mr. White, you need to deal with Henry. He bullied my dear Tricia!"
Gregory was all smiles until he heard the last part. His face darkened instantly.
Since when did Tricia become Abigail's?
Clearly, he was the one!
Gregory looked up, his cold gaze sweeping over the employees in the conference room, and he softly said, "Meeting adjourned!"
The employees, meeting Gregory's icy stare, shivered and quickly scattered.
They seriously suspected that what Gregory really wanted to say was not "meeting adjourned" but "get out!"
Even those without a keen sense of timing knew the meeting was over for today.
Soon, only Gregory was left in the conference room.
He asked, "What did Henry do?"
Abigail recounted everything Tricia had said, fuming, "I know their interviews are strict, but this is too much. Are they bullying our Tricia because she has no one to protect her?"
Gregory listened quietly, frowning deeply. His mind was repeatedly filled with phrases like "my dear Tricia" and "our Tricia."
He had never heard Abigail use such affectionate terms, and Tricia had beaten him to it.
Tricia, right? He would remember that!
Tricia, who was about to send her resume to the next company, suddenly sneezed. She rubbed her nose and silently turned up the air conditioning in the room. She couldn't help but wonder if someone was talking about her behind her back, as her grandmother used to say.
Abigail pouted, "Are you going to help or not?"
Gregory pinched the bridge of his nose and said, "Henry may be a bit unruly at times, but he wouldn't be rude to others. Are you sure there's no misunderstanding?"
Abigail said, "How could there be? Tricia told me herself! If you don't help, I'll go talk to Henry myself!"
Gregory felt helpless and amused. 'When did I say I wouldn't help?'
He said, "Wait a moment, I'll call Henry."
Abigail immediately brightened up, a sweet smile appearing on her face, her voice soft and playful. "Thank you, honey! You're the best!"
Gregory's previously dark expression instantly softened, and he couldn't help but smile.
He parted his lips, about to say something, but the call abruptly ended, leaving no room for mercy.
Gregory stared at the phone, slowly coming back to his senses after a long while, and couldn't help but let out a cold laugh.
He thought to himself, 'Use me and then toss me aside, huh? Just wait until I get home tonight, Abigail. You're in for a fun surprise.'
He took a deep breath, suppressing his frustration and disappointment, and called Henry.
Henry's voice, filled with surprise and confusion, came through, "Gregory, you actually called me? This is rare!"
Gregory got straight to the point. "Did you say something disrespectful to Abigail's good friend? Abigail brought it up to me."
His voice was as cold as ice, capable of chilling someone to the bone.
Hearing this, Henry felt a bit guilty. "I just said a few things casually, but they were all true. Based on her resume, she indeed has no competitive advantage."
Gregory sighed, "You should know, Abigail only has this one good friend. Even if you don't hire her, you shouldn't be so harsh."
He found it hard to believe that Henry would do something so childish.
Over the years, Henry had many relationships, always believing that women should be cherished and treating them with gentlemanly respect. As a result, even though he often had new girlfriends, his exes all remained friends with him.
Someone once joked that if Henry became a nightclub star, he would have no negative reviews.
"Gregory, do you know how annoying Tricia is! She's simply indescribable!" Henry said.
