Chapter 441 Actually Flirting with Another Woman!
Maeve's face turned ashen as she struggled with all her strength."I don't want this, let go of me!" she cried out, her voice trembling with fear.
Realizing she couldn't free herself by sheer force, Maeve clenched her teeth and bit down hard on the hand gripping her arm.
"Bitch, how dare you bite me?" the man yelped in pain, shoving Maeve to the floor with a violent motion before slapping her across the face.
When Abigail arrived, she saw Maeve on the ground and immediately stepped forward, pushing the man back with surprising strength. "Stop! What are you doing?"
The man froze when he saw Abigail's face, his hostile expression turning into one of shock. "Ms. Martin?"
Abigail squinted at him, vaguely recognizing his face but unable to recall his name.
"Ms. Martin, don't you remember me? Our companies have a partnership," the man said with a fawning smile.
Abigail recognized him. "Mr. Fletcher, I had high hopes for your company, but given your behavior, I think we'll pass on that partnership."
Panic washed over Hugo's face. "Please, Ms. Martin, I didn't know she was someone you knew. I wouldn't have touched her if I had known. Please forgive me this once."
Abigail interrupted impatiently, "It doesn't matter if I know her or not. You shouldn't harass anyone. At DM, we value our partners' reputations, and your actions don't cut it. I'll have Lily contact legal to cancel our contract."
Without giving him a chance to respond, Abigail turned to Maeve. "Are you okay?"
Maeve glanced at her scraped elbow and smiled weakly. "I'm fine, Ms. Martin. Thank you so much."
If not for Abigail, Maeve couldn't imagine what might have happened. Abigail gave Fletcher a stern look before walking Maeve out.
Hugo, drenched in cold sweat, collapsed to the floor. It was over. DM was a top player in the industry; without their partnership, no other company would touch them. Regret washed over him. He should never have come here.
Outside, Abigail advised Maeve, "Learn some self-defense. You can't always rely on others."
Maeve's eyes were slightly red as she looked at Abigail with admiration. "I will. I aspire to be as skilled as you."
Abigail chuckled, then noticed a nearby restaurant. "Why aren't you at your old job? Sidney and Tessa were fired, weren't they?"
Maeve's eyes darkened. "That job paid well, but my mom's condition worsened, and I needed to be closer to her."
Abigail nodded, not pressing further. Just then, Mireille emerged from the restaurant, linking arms with Abigail. "I paid the bill. Quinn called; he's coming back today. Let's go."
Abigail said a quick goodbye to Maeve before leaving. Maeve watched them go, lost in thought, until her supervisor called her over. "Maeve, you've caused us big trouble. Mr. Fletcher wants you fired, and we can't afford to offend him."
Maeve turned pale. "I need this job. Please—"
"No," the supervisor cut her off, handing her some money. "Take this and leave. We can't employ you."
Maeve's tears fell as she took the money. Why was life so cruel? Since her father died, nothing had gone right for her and her mother.
Meanwhile, in the car, Abigail called Leo to investigate Maeve's mother's hospital. Mireille looked at her in surprise. "Why do you care so much about that woman? Who is she?"
Recalling the frail woman's dependent gaze at Abigail, Mireille felt a surge of irritation. Wasn't one sister enough? Now she was cozying up to other women too.
Seeing Mireille's pout, Abigail smiled. "Don't worry, no one can replace you. You're unique to me."
Mireille blushed. "Really?"
"Really," Abigail confirmed, her eyes sincere.
Mireille, appeased, hugged Abigail's arm. "Alright, I'll forgive you this time."
Abigail sighed inwardly. To those who didn't know Mireille, she might seem spoiled, but she was just a bit needy and childish, likely due to her upbringing. Cassian and Linnea favored Bruce, neglecting her. But now, Abigail would protect her.
Arriving at Quinn's villa, they ran into Gregory and Henry. Gregory's eyes lit up at the sight of Abigail, and he quickly walked over.
Henry, mid-sentence, noticed Gregory's sudden departure and couldn't help but roll his eyes. They hadn't even been apart for a day!
If Gregory could know Henry's thoughts, he would undoubtedly reply, "It's absolutely necessary!"
