Chapter 38 Rehearsal

The call was disconnected, and Roman stared at his phone, burning with anger in his chest.
He clenched his teeth, wanting to throw the phone in his hand.
Colin Walsh, his friend who often indulged in food, drink, and entertainment with him, swiftly snatched the phone back from his hand.
"Roman, this is my phone. If you break it, my dad will kill me!"
Colin's dad was a self-made man who used to be a construction subcontractor and became wealthy overnight due to a fortunate opportunity.
Colin didn't perform well in his studies and was always idle, frustrating his father to the point of insanity.
This was already the third phone he had switched this month.
He spent all his pocket money to repay Roman's debts.
If this phone broke, Colin would have to ask his dad for money again. His dad's temper might make him get beaten again.
Roman looked at his empty hand, already angry, and now he was even angrier. "I can buy you another one. You don't have to be so stingy."
Colin carefully put the phone in his pocket and glanced at him. "Roman, before you say that, you should repay the money you owe me first."
Roman suddenly felt extremely embarrassed, and his expression became gloomy.
After some thought, he said to Colin, "Give me the phone. I want to make another call."
Colin's expression immediately became wary. "Roman, if you're really angry, you can go out and relax. You can even pick a fight with someone, but don't take it out on my phone."
Roman took a deep breath and forcibly suppressed his anger. "I want to call my mom and borrow some money from her," he said.
Colin immediately breathed a sigh of relief. "Oh, here you go."
As long as Roman didn't smash his phone, he could do anything.
Roman snorted and picked up the phone to call Elaine.
The call was quickly connected, and Elaine's voice came through the receiver. "Hello, who's there?"
Roman furrowed his brows, feeling something off about Elaine's voice. Worried, he asked, "Mom, is there something wrong? Are you sick? Your voice sounds strange."
Upon hearing the familiar voice, Elaine was taken aback. "Roman? Where have you been these past few days? I couldn't reach you when I called."
Roman massaged his temple, annoyed. "It's a long story. Mom, Gregory froze my card. Do you know about this?"
"What?! He actually froze your card!"
Elaine was lying in bed, but she sat up abruptly, forgetting about her headache.
The three of them relied on Gregory's card for their livelihood.
Although Roman also worked at the White Group, his position wasn't high, and his monthly income was insufficient.
As Elaine thought about no longer being able to spend money recklessly in the future, she felt heartbroken.
Roman shook his head with a sad tone. "I don't know. Gregory said I did something wrong and asked me to reflect, but I have no idea what I did wrong."
Abigail's delicate face suddenly flashed through Elaine's mind, and she clenched her teeth: "It must be that little bitch!"

Abigail must have said something to Gregory, which is why he did this. She's just as despicable as her dead mother!

"What?" Roman didn't hear clearly and asked curiously, "Mom, what happened? Who were you talking about just now?"

Elaine opened her mouth, remembering Grace's warning to her that day, and she shivered uncontrollably.

Since learning that Gregory actually married Abigail, she got so angry that she fell ill and could only lie in bed feeling miserable.

Even now, her condition has not improved.

Just thinking about this, she began to resent Abigail, and her head started to ache.

"I can't say it now; you'll know when you come back."

As she spoke, her voice started to weaken.

Roman wanted to ask her more, but Elaine hung up the phone directly.

He stared blankly at his phone, not knowing what had happened.

Colin also heard Roman and Elaine's conversation and felt that something was wrong.

He worriedly asked, "What happened?"

Roman shook his head, indicating that he didn't know either.

Elaine told him to hurry home. Could something have happened at his house?

No, if something happened to the White Group, it would have been reported in the headlines long ago, but there was no news now.

And who is the little bitch that Elaine was referring to?

He was confused, so he asked Colin to help him analyze.

Colin thought for a moment, and then a flash of insight came to his mind: "Could it be that your fiancée went to your house to complain, so your uncle froze your card?"

Roman's brain seemed to have been struck by lightning, and he froze on the spot.

Colin felt that this was very likely. He patted Roman's shoulder hard and said, "I told you not to go too far; otherwise, she will definitely retaliate against you."

Roman frowned, thinking about Abigail, and his face became disgusted. "This can't be entirely blamed on me. I never wanted this engagement in the first place. It was my mom's decision."

Colin glanced at him, wanting to say something, but didn't.

He wanted to say, "Back when the Martin family was thriving, you shamelessly snatched the engagement and took advantage of it. Now that the Martin family has fallen, you want to get rid of Abigail. You've taken all the benefits."

But these words he only thought to himself.

If he really said these words, he and Roman would break off.

Roman tightly gripped his phone and gritted his teeth, "No, I must find an opportunity to let Abigail explain to me clearly!"
Abigail had no idea that someone was coming to settle her accounts. Gregory took her out for a big meal, and then they went to bed early that night.

When she came out of the shower, Gregory happened to come in to get something.

He looked at Abigail in surprise and asked with a smile, "You're going to bed this early? It's only 9 p.m."

Abigail plugged in the hairdryer and answered, "I have a formal performance tomorrow. I have to be in my best condition to perform."

Curiously, Gregory asked, "Is tomorrow's performance important to you?"

Abigail thought for a moment and replied, "Not really. It's just a regular school celebration program, but the piece I'll be playing tomorrow is my mom's favorite. I've always hoped she could hear me play from the audience, but unfortunately..."
