Chapter 176 Never Loved

Jessica was left dumbfounded by Abigail's question, not knowing what to say.

Deep down, she knew she shouldn't hate Abigail, but she just couldn't help it.

Without Abigail, she wouldn't be labeled as an illegitimate child.

Maybe their fates were just meant to clash forever.

Jessica said, "Abigail, don't change the subject. We're talking about this incident. I apologized, so why can't you just let it go?"

Abigail suddenly burst out laughing. "And why should I?"

Jessica's hands slowly clenched, anger bubbling up inside her. "Abigail, is it because you still have feelings for Roman? Is that why you're targeting me? After all, you loved him for so many years."

She raised her voice on purpose, making sure Gregory could hear.

Sure enough, Gregory's face darkened immediately.

Jessica felt a secret satisfaction and provocatively lifted her chin at Abigail.

Abigail stared at her for a moment, then slowly shook her head. "I have a gem worth a fortune; why would I care about a mere stone?"

The gem was Gregory, and the stone was Roman.

In terms of height, looks, wealth, and status, Gregory was way above Roman.

A guy who cheated during their engagement—how could he even compare to Gregory?

Roman had initially felt smug because of Jessica's words, thinking Abigail must still have feelings for him.

But Abigail's words shattered his confidence instantly.

His brows furrowed, and he felt even more distressed.

Jessica kept mocking, "Abigail, I know you're just saying that out of spite. How could you let go of so many years of feelings just like that? It's not fair to Gregory!"

She didn't believe any man wouldn't care if his woman had feelings for another guy.

Wasn't Abigail just making things difficult for her?

She wanted to see if Abigail could still be so smug after Gregory dumped her.

Abigail sneered, slowly stood up, walked over to Roman, and scrutinized him with a critical eye.

As she got closer, Roman caught a faint whiff of rose perfume, and his body tensed up.

Just when he thought Abigail was going to do something, he heard her mock, "Roman, you overestimate yourself. I never liked you."

Roman was stunned, his eyes filled with disbelief. "What did you say?"

Abigail repeated, "I said I never liked you. I got engaged to you only because it was my mother's dying wish, nothing more. If you misunderstood, I'm truly sorry."

"That's impossible! You clearly liked me; otherwise, why would you..." Roman shook his head repeatedly, still unwilling to believe it.

Over the years, Abigail had always followed him, enduring all the nasty rumors about him. Whenever he needed help, she was the first to step up.

If that wasn't love, what was it?

Abigail's lips curled into a faint smile, but her words were as sharp as a blade. "If I truly liked you, I would never tolerate my fiancé being ambiguous with other women. I put up with you for so many years only out of consideration for the Martin family and the White family. Otherwise, do you think you're worth my feelings?"

She hadn't meant to be so harsh, but Jessica just wouldn't let it go.

Plus, she didn't want Gregory to get the wrong idea.

Her words left Roman and Jessica completely stunned.

Roman had always bragged to the rich kids that he had found true love and had a super loyal fiancée.

Jessica had felt proud and smug for stealing Roman from Abigail.

But now, Abigail told them she had never loved Roman.

What they had once been most proud of had turned into a joke.

Roman, dazed, kept shaking his head. "I don't believe it. It's not true. Abigail, you do like me. You're just saying this out of spite, right?"

Abigail smirked and mocked, "Didn't you used to hate me the most? Why are you so upset now that I say I don't like you? Could it be that..."

Jessica suddenly snapped out of her daze and interrupted her, "Abigail, Roman loves me! Don't even think about taking him away from me!"

She hugged Roman tightly, feeling extremely scared.

She had made a mistake by provoking Abigail; otherwise, things wouldn't have escalated to this point.

She shot a venomous look at Abigail and fled with Roman.

After they left, Gregory suddenly embraced Abigail from behind, resting his chin on her shoulder and gently nuzzling her face.

Abigail turned her head and smiled at him. "You did great today."

Gregory lowered his eyes, playing with Abigail's slender hand in his palm.

Hearing this, he looked up. "What was so great? Tell me, Abigail."

They were very close, their bodies tightly pressed together. Gregory's warm breath fell on Abigail's skin as he spoke, causing a tingling sensation.

Abigail wanted to scratch her cheek, but Gregory was still holding her hand, so she had to give up.

She said, "Seeing Roman and Jessica embarrassed in front of me made me very happy."

Although she didn't love Roman, it didn't mean she had no grievances for the years of suffering.

She had always hoped to find an opportunity to get back at those who had hurt her, and today was the perfect chance.

Gregory's non-interference was the best support for her.

"Then, answer me one question honestly," said Gregory.

"What?" Abigail blinked, asking in confusion.

Gregory released her, held her shoulders, turned her to face him, and then asked, "You said you never liked Roman. Is that true?"

Abigail was taken aback, not expecting this question, and couldn't help but laugh. "It's true. If it weren't for fulfilling my mother's dying wish, I wouldn't have endured it for so long."

Hearing Abigail's affirmative answer, Gregory felt a wave of relief.

Immediately, a surge of emotion welled up in his chest, almost bursting out.

He slowly leaned closer, looking into Abigail's eyes, and asked word by word, "Then who do you like now?"

Looking at his magnified, handsome face, Abigail's cheeks flushed. "You're just asking the obvious!"

Who else could it be but Gregory?

Gregory smiled but still wouldn't let Abigail off. "But I want to hear you say it."
