Chapter 308 Heart-Wrenching
Abigail took out her phone and looked down to call the driver.
The driver's apologetic voice quickly came through the receiver, "Mrs. White, I'm really sorry. It's rush hour, and I'm stuck in traffic. Give me another ten minutes, and I'll be there soon."
"It's okay, don't rush. Safety first." Abigail reassured him softly.
After hanging up, she stood in front of the restaurant waiting for the driver to arrive, but Olivia's words kept echoing in her mind.
"You're just an illegitimate child who doesn't even know who her father is."
"Your mother cheated in her marriage; she's a shameless woman."
Abigail closed her eyes tightly, her hands clenched into fists, trying hard to control the emotions surging inside her.
After a long time, a honking sound reached her ears.
She slowly opened her eyes, and to her surprise, it was Gregory's car.
Gregory got out of the car, his tall figure slowly approaching and stopping in front of Abigail.
Seeing Abigail standing there in a daze, he slightly curled his lips and waved his hand gently in front of her. "What's wrong? What are you thinking about? Or have you forgotten me?"
Abigail snapped back to reality, tears suddenly welling up in her eyes, and she threw herself into Gregory's arms.
Feeling the softness in his arms, Gregory was slightly stunned, his warm palm gently stroking her hair. "What's wrong? Did something upset you?"
Abigail nodded but didn't speak.
Seeing her unhappy, Gregory didn't press further. He just stood there quietly, continuously comforting her.
After a while, Abigail finally lifted her head from his embrace, her eyes red, looking at him pitifully.
Gregory felt a pang in his heart, gently wiping the tears from the corners of Abigail's eyes with his thumb, and asked softly, "What's wrong? Why are you crying?"
As soon as he spoke, the grievances Abigail had been suppressing for so long erupted like a volcano. Crystal-clear tears burst from her eyes, falling like broken pearls.
Abigail cried more and more sorrowfully.
Her slender hands tightly clutched Gregory's suit jacket, as if holding onto the last straw.
Seeing her suddenly cry so sadly, Gregory panicked a bit. "Alright, don't cry, Abigail, baby, honey?"
"I'm fine." Abigail lowered her head and wiped her tears. She didn't know why, but as soon as she saw Gregory, she couldn't stop crying.
However, she didn't look fine at all.
Gregory held her and sat her in the car, took out a wet wipe from his pocket, and gently and carefully wiped her cheeks.
Abigail sat obediently, letting him wipe her face.
Her docile appearance was heart-wrenching.
Gregory sighed helplessly in his heart, threw the wipe into the car's trash bin, and pulled her back into his arms.
"Now can you tell me what happened? If you don't want to say, I'll check the surveillance. I want to see who dares to bully my wife," Gregory said.
Abigail was amused by his last sentence, and her mood gradually improved.
"No one bullied me. I just thought about things that happened recently and felt a bit sad," Abigail said.
"Is that really all?" Gregory looked at her suspiciously.
Abigail was never a fragile person. On the contrary, she was stronger than many girls her age.
Abigail pursed her lips, found a more comfortable position in his arms, and said slowly, "Actually, I ran into Olivia today. I don't understand how Elaine knows about my mom."
She had already burned those photos.
And David had personally said that he hadn't seen Michelle cheat, only that after seeing those photos, he did a DNA test and found out Abigail wasn't his daughter.
This meant Michelle had indeed been intimate with someone else.
But Abigail believed Michelle wasn't willing; she was probably set up.
Abigail had a suspect in mind—Kayla, because Kayla was the biggest beneficiary of this incident.
But how did Elaine know? Could Elaine be involved in this too?
