Chapter 68 Put Your Shoes On

Kayla watched David's changing expressions and gently said, "You're Abigail's dad. There won't be lasting hate between you two. Just talk to her, and she'll come back."

David's face softened a bit, but still holding onto his pride, he said, "Even without that money, I can still fix the company. And besides, Jessica and Roman..."

He trailed off, unable to continue.

Roman had mentioned that Grace still hadn't accepted Jessica.

So, who knew when Jessica and Roman will get married.

For now, they couldn't count on help from the White family.

Kayla smirked. "Easy fix. Just marry Abigail off. I've been looking for a husband for her. I'll find the right guy."

David hesitated.

The company was in a tough spot. Without enough funds, it wouldn't last.

Shareholders were grumbling about the poor performance, probably thinking about replacing him.

If David could get the 15% shares from Michelle's inheritance, he'd have full control.

The more he thought about it, the more tempted he got.

He started thinking of potential husbands for Abigail.

Her getting married would be a big help.

Whether she wanted to or not wasn't his concern.

In his mind, Abigail was his daughter and should follow his plans.

But David wouldn't marry her off to just anyone.

Roman, despite having no inheritance rights, was still from a wealthy family, making him an ideal son-in-law.

Too bad Abigail didn't seize the chance. Even with her looks, she didn't use them well.

Luckily, Jessica was ambitious and obedient. Her marrying into the White family made him happier than Abigail marrying in.

Kayla offered, "Why don't you let me handle it? I'll find someone who truly loves Abigail."

David frowned, uneasy. "You're a housewife. How would you know suitable people?"

Kayla pouted and glared at him. "You're underestimating me. I socialize with wealthy ladies. I can find out about any unmarried young men easily."

Seeing her upset, David quickly hugged her, smiling. "Yes, you're the best. I'll leave it to you."

Kayla smiled, promising, "Don't worry. Even though Abigail doesn't like me, this is about her future. I'll take it seriously."

David looked at her well-maintained face, feeling moved.

He smiled and nodded. "I trust you with this."

Kayla secretly sighed in relief, having convinced David.

She sighed and pretended to be hurt. "Actually, Jessica and I owe Abigail. Jessica took Roman away. If this gets out, it won't look good for us."

David felt even more sympathetic. "It's not Jessica's fault Abigail couldn't keep a man. You're so kind-hearted. People will only praise you for being gentle and virtuous."

Kayla's cheeks flushed slightly, her eyes seductive.

She leaned on David's shoulder, looking dependent and trusting. "Thank you, David."

David felt moved by her gaze.

But he didn't notice the flicker of malice and calculation in Kayla's eyes when she looked down.

Abigail woke up to find it already bright outside.

She stared at the ceiling for a while, recalling last night, her cheeks flushing.

Her smooth skin glowed with a hint of pink, making her even more charming.

She stretched lazily, got out of bed, and spotted Gregory on the balcony.

She walked over and saw him smoking.

His deep, handsome features, sharp contours, and custom-made charcoal black suit made him look even more upright.

Thick smoke wafted from his lips, adding a touch of mystery to his stunning profile.

The cigarette, glowing red, was held between his well-defined fingers, casually resting on the railing.

His back seemed to carry a hint of loneliness.

Abigail's heart skipped a beat, and her steps halted.

Hearing her footsteps, Gregory turned slightly.

Seeing Abigail, he paused, then extinguished the cigarette.

"Go freshen up. Breakfast is ready."

Abigail snapped out of her reverie, realizing she had been staring at Gregory's back, feeling shy.

She nodded and quickly walked to the bathroom.

Noticing she wasn't wearing shoes, Gregory frowned. "Put on your shoes."

Abigail turned back, put on her slippers, and ran to the bathroom.

Watching her retreating figure, Gregory couldn't help but smile.

When Abigail finished freshening up and changed her clothes, Gregory was sitting on the living room sofa.

Seeing her come down, Gregory stood up and asked the butler to serve the food.

Abigail followed Gregory closely, occasionally glancing up at him.

When he wasn't looking, she quickly averted her gaze.

After several times, Gregory seemed not to notice.

Abigail grew bolder, observing Gregory's expression while eating.

The events of last night were still vivid in her mind.

Sitting at the same table with Gregory for breakfast felt awkward. She didn't know what to say.

But Gregory remained calm, as if nothing had happened.

This made Abigail doubt herself. 'Has the world changed, or am I too conservative?'

She was thrown into turmoil by a kiss, while Gregory remained expressionless, as if he was used to it.

Abigail wondered which woman had trained him.

The more she thought about it, the angrier she became, stirring her oatmeal repeatedly, her cheeks puffing up in anger.

What Abigail didn't know was that Gregory had been watching her every move.

Though he appeared expressionless, his lips were slightly upturned as he drank his soup.

He served Abigail some food, placing it in her bowl. "Eat more."

His words broke the awkward atmosphere.

Abigail glanced at him. "Thank you, Mr. White."

Gregory responded and asked, "Do you have any plans for today?"
