Chapter 216 Car Accident
Abigail took a day off to chill at home and then headed back to work the next day.
But something was definitely off at the office. People were grouped up, whispering. But when they saw Abigail, they straightened up real quick. "Morning, Ms. Martin."
She gave a slight nod and headed straight for the elevator. She didn't ask, but she caught "Tom" in their whispers.
Once she got to her office, Susan rushed in, looking all flustered. "Ms. Martin, this is Tom's resignation letter. He's already packed up and left."
Abigail wasn't surprised at all. She just nodded. "Leave it there. Call a meeting with the design department right away."
Susan was taken aback for a second, then asked, "Ms. Martin, did you know Tom was going to quit?"
"Yeah," Abigail replied calmly.
She appreciated Tom's skills, but he was too much of a wild card, always making her uneasy.
Susan bit her lip and asked, "Ms. Martin, is it true what they're saying? That you drove Tom away?"
Abigail didn't answer right away. Instead, she asked, "What do you think?"
Susan hesitated before saying, "I don't think you're that kind of person. It must be just rumors!"
Abigail's lips curled into a slight smile. "The rumors are true. I did drive Tom away."
Susan was shocked. "Ms. Martin, you must be joking. How could that be?"
Abigail just looked at her, still smiling.
Susan's heart raced, and she felt a chill run down her spine. She forced a smile, wanting to say something, but her mind went blank.
Abigail teased, "Relax, I wouldn't drive someone away for no reason. Susan, you're doing great; I wouldn't let you go."
Seeing how scared Susan was, Abigail sighed and waved her off.
Susan apologized and quickly left, not noticing Abigail's lingering gaze.
After work, Abigail got a call from her driver, saying he was downstairs. She packed up and headed down.
When she got in the car, the driver greeted her with a smile, "Mrs. White, you're off early today."
"Yeah, it was a slow day," Abigail said, leaning back in her seat, looking tired.
The driver smiled warmly. "Get some rest, Mrs. White. I'll wake you when we get home."
"Okay," Abigail said, closing her eyes to rest.
But soon, she heard the driver shout in panic.
The next second, the car crashed head-on with a big truck. Abigail was thrown forward and then snapped back by her seatbelt.
Her head slammed into the window, making her gasp in pain.
When she came to, her vision was blurry, and she felt warm liquid trickling down her head.
Her head throbbed like it was going to explode, and she couldn't think straight.
She fought through the pain and called out to the driver a few times, but he was out cold and didn't respond.
She tried to get out of the car but realized her leg was stuck and she couldn't move.
Looking out the window, her blood-stained hand trembled as she lowered it and called for help.
Gregory was in a meeting when he got the call. Leo burst in, looking frantic. "Mr. White, there's an emergency! Mrs. White was in a car accident!"
"What?" Gregory shot up from his chair, barely managing to say, "Meeting adjourned," before rushing out.
On the way to the hospital, Gregory floored the gas pedal, wishing he could teleport there.
His whole body was tense, silently praying that Abigail would be okay.
When he got out of the car, his legs were shaking. If he hadn't grabbed the car door, he might have collapsed.
But he didn't waste any time and sprinted to the emergency room.
When he arrived, the doctor was treating Abigail.
She looked so small, sitting obediently on the hospital bed with a bandage around her head, stained with fresh blood.
Her face and arms were covered in scratches, looking really pitiful.
Abigail had been holding it together, but as soon as she saw Gregory, she couldn't hold back her tears. She pouted and reached out to him. "Honey."
Her voice was choked and pitiful.
Gregory felt his heart break, the pain making it hard to breathe.
Ignoring everyone around, he rushed over and hugged Abigail tightly. "Abigail, you scared me to death!"
When he heard about the accident, it felt like his heart had stopped.
Abigail sniffled and gently patted his back. "Alright, I'm fine, aren't I?"
But Gregory didn't respond, just held her quietly for a long time.
Abigail suddenly sensed something was off.
She could feel Gregory's body trembling and heard faint sobbing.
'Gregory is crying?' Abigail thought. Shocked by her own realization, she quickly pulled back, cupping his face.
Gregory's eyes were red and bloodshot, staring at her with a mix of fear, panic, and helplessness.
Abigail's heart softened, feeling both amused and touched. "Mr. White, I never thought I'd see you cry."
Gregory turned his face away, stubbornly saying, "I didn't."
Abigail's smile deepened, and she threw herself into his arms, wrapping her arms around his waist and rubbing her cheek against his chest.
She firmly told him, "Mr. White, I'm really fine. Can you feel my heartbeat and body warmth?"
"Yes." Gregory hugged her again, his instincts urging him to nuzzle her hair with his chin, but he held back, mindful of her injury.
Maybe they were being too affectionate because even the doctor couldn't stand it. "How about you let me finish applying the medicine before you continue being lovey-dovey?"
Abigail snapped back to reality, her face turning red. She quickly pushed Gregory away and said to the doctor, "Sorry, please continue."
Gregory didn't leave; he sat by her side, holding her hand tightly.
