Chapter 154 Splitting the Assets

"I didn't, Roman, don't buy into their crap!" Jessica shot out, grabbing Roman's hand as she saw doubt creep into his eyes.

Roman frowned, turning to Gregory. "Is there some mistake? Jessica's not like that."

Gregory stayed quiet, but Andy whipped out his phone and played a video. "Roman, you might wanna check this out before making up your mind."

The White Manor's surveillance was no joke; it ran almost 24/7.

Jessica, being new to the place, had totally missed that detail.

Her eyes went wide, heart pounding. 'Surveillance? It was on? Does that mean everything from yesterday got recorded?'

She lunged for Andy's phone. "What video? Quit trying to mess things up between Roman and me!"

Too late.

Even though the phone hit the ground, the play button had already been pressed.

Jessica's sharp, nasty voice blared out. "You wicked witch, once Roman inherits the White Group, I'll be the first to kick you out!"

Everyone heard it, including Roman.

He picked up the phone, staring at the footage, unable to match the vicious face on the screen with the sweet Jessica in front of him.

His hand shook with anger as he held the phone. "Jessica, what the hell is this?"

Jessica panicked under Roman's intense gaze. "It's not what it looks like, Roman, let me explain!"

"Alright, explain. Tell me that's not you in the video, that you didn't say those awful things," Roman demanded.

Jessica's lips moved, but no words came out.

With the video as proof, she had no way to deny it.

Roman sneered, disappointment flooding his eyes. "You insulted Grandma behind my back and even pushed her? You messed up, didn't apologize, and then lied to me, saying Grandma and the servants bullied you? Jessica, do you really think I'm that gullible?"

Roman might be a romantic, but he wasn't dumb.

He'd fallen for Jessica because of the pure strength she seemed to have. But he hadn't seen that side of her in ages. Or maybe, it was all an act from the start?

Now that she had what she wanted, she couldn't be bothered to keep up the charade?

Sensing trouble, Jessica grabbed Roman's sleeve, her tone softening. "Roman, please forgive me this once. I didn't mean it; I swear I won't do it again!"

She knew Roman well after all these years.

In the past, a gentle tone from her would smooth over even the biggest fights.

Sure enough, Roman's expression softened a bit. But just a bit.

"Jessica, apologize to Grandma and the servants. You made things hard for them, so you need to apologize."

'No way!' Jessica felt a surge of resentment but bit her tongue.

She knew now wasn't the time to push back against Roman.

Even though she was married to Roman, Jessica knew her spot in the White family wasn't solid yet.

She had to suck it up.

With that in mind, Jessica slowly walked over to Grace, eyes all teary, and said, "Grace, it was my bad. I acted on impulse and accidentally pushed you. Can you forgive me?"

Grace shot her a cold look. "Accidentally? Really?"

She knew better than anyone the malice in Jessica's eyes when she pushed her.

She'd been saying all along that Jessica wasn't a good woman, but Roman wouldn't listen.

Thinking of Roman, she shook her head slowly, feeling even more let down.

Jessica gritted her teeth but forced a smile, coaxing, "Grace, I really know I was wrong. Please forgive me. I promise it won't happen again!"

Gregory, who'd been quiet for a while, suddenly spoke up, "Let's split the assets."

Everyone was floored by his words.

Grace and Andy were surprised, while Jessica was over the moon.

She'd been stressing about finding a way for Roman to inherit the company, and this was perfect!

Roman was about to say something when Jessica cut in, "Gregory, are you sure? If we split the assets, you won't be able to control the White Group anymore!"

Abigail sneered, "Control? As if Stephen doesn't have shares in the White Group."

Jessica shot back, "Stephen's shares are nothing compared to Gregory's. If we split the assets, everything will have to be calculated clearly!"

Seeing Jessica's greedy face, Abigail felt a surge of anger.

Not content with taking Michelle's inheritance, now she was eyeing Gregory's assets? How greedy could she be!

Compared to Abigail's anger, Gregory stayed super calm. "Fine, but you don't get to decide this. Ralph, call Stephen and Elaine back."

Seeing Abigail so mad, Gregory found it amusing. He took her hand and gently squeezed it.

He lowered his voice and whispered in her ear, "Don't be mad. In the end, who gives money to whom is still up in the air!"

Abigail looked up at him in surprise, her eyes brightening. "You knew this day would come?"

Gregory nodded slightly and raised an eyebrow at Abigail, as if to say, "Isn't your husband amazing?"

Abigail was amused by his expression, and her tense mood eased up a lot.

Soon, Stephen and Elaine were called back.

After getting the lowdown, Elaine was furious. "Split the assets? No way. If I had known, I would've been more resolute in opposing your relationship from the start!"

Elaine's voice shook with anger.

The entire White Group was under Gregory's control, and now was not the time for internal conflict.

Even though he always wanted Roman involved in the company's affairs, he had to admit Roman had no knack for it.

Splitting the assets before Roman had built his own influence in the company would only make Stephen look foolish!

Jessica didn't get any of this; she only knew she wanted to be Mrs. White of the White Group.

She approached Elaine and softly persuaded, "Mom, if we split the assets, we won't have to accommodate others anymore. Once Roman joins the company and succeeds, won't our future be bright?"

"Shut up! Do you think it's your place to speak?" Elaine snapped.
