Chapter 36 Confirming the Performance
As noon approached, Abigail took the stage for a rehearsal.
She was going to perform the violin, a piece that required high technical skills and had a poignant and lyrical melody.
As the piece ended, thunderous applause erupted throughout the venue.
Many of the audience members cheered and praised, filling the air with their compliments.
But Abigail didn't feel happy because this piece was Michelle's favorite when she was alive.
It was said that a tragic love story inspired the composition of this piece.
Perhaps influenced by the music, Abigail's mood remained low even after the rehearsal ended.
Tricia noticed Abigail's distraction and sighed inwardly with helplessness.
Softly comforting her, she said, "Abigail, it's all in the past. We have to look forward and think positively. Maybe heaven has no pain and doesn't require the torment of emotions. It might be a good thing for your mom."
Abigail nodded slightly and managed a smile. "I'm fine. It's getting late, and you've been with me at school the whole day. You must be tired. Go rest early."
"Are you sure you're okay? Let me accompany you back," Tricia offered.
Abigail shook her head and pointed to a car slowly approaching not far away. "No need. Someone is here to pick me up."
Tricia followed Abigail's gesture and saw a black Maybach stopping in front of them.
The car door opened from the inside, and Tricia was the first to catch sight of a pair of shiny black shoes and a perfectly tailored suit wrapping around straight legs.
Looking up, Tricia happened to see Gregory's handsome face.
She almost screamed but managed to hold herself together, avoiding any embarrassing behavior in front of Gregory.
"Mr. White, are you here specifically to take Abigail home?"
Gregory looked at Abigail, his deep eyes filled with a faint smile. He nodded slightly and waved, "Abigail, let's go home perfectly."
His voice was deep and pleasant, and when he called Abigail's name, it had a bit of charm, but it also made people feel particularly at ease.
However, Abigail's nose tingled, and her eyes almost became teary. It was as if a child who had been wronged outside suddenly saw a family member she could rely on.
Gregory immediately noticed something was wrong with Abigail's emotions.
He looked at Tricia, who was standing beside them, in confusion and asked, "What's wrong with her?"
"I'm fine. I suddenly miss my mom a bit," Abigail explained softly.
After a moment of silence, Gregory reached out his long arms and embraced her. His big, warm palm gently caressed her hair, silently comforting her.
Feeling his warm embrace, Abigail felt her eyes welling up again.
After a while, she finally managed to suppress the sudden surge of emotions.
She slowly opened her eyes and buried her face in his chest, not wanting to lift it, with her cheeks turning red.
She... she had actually leaned on Gregory's chest just now!
Would Gregory think she was too emotional and felt wronged over something minor?
Just as she was lost in her thoughts, Gregory's deep and hoarse voice suddenly came from above her head, "How long do you want to rely on me?"
This sentence was like a thunderbolt in Abigail's mind.
She hurriedly looked up and coincidentally met Gregory's profound and smiling eyes.
Abigail opened her mouth, wanting to explain for herself.
But before she could speak, Gregory continued, "I don't mind you leaning on me, but..."
As he spoke, he slowly scanned the surroundings with his gaze.
Abigail suddenly realized what was happening and quickly turned her head. Several passersby were walking towards them, taking pictures with their phones.
Several girls kept saying things like, "He's so handsome."
Abigail wished she could bury herself in the sand. In a panic, she directly grabbed Gregory's hand and sat in the car.
Gregory and Abigail sat in the back seat of the car together and then gave a signal to the driver.
The driver had been working for Gregory for a long time, so he immediately understood what Gregory meant.
He got out of the car and said something to the people taking pictures with their phones. Then, those people instantly showed disappointed expressions and were reluctant to look away from the car.
This level of luxury car was very rare, and there were probably only two in the entire Aramore.
There were only Abigail and Gregory in the car, and the atmosphere was incredibly awkward.
She lowered her head, her fingers nervously gripping her skirt, not daring to look up at Gregory's expression at the moment.
At this moment, Gregory suddenly spoke up, his tone hinting at teasing: "I never expected my Abigail to be so shy when she grows up. When you were a child..."
He stopped suddenly, his gaze becoming deep.
Abigail didn't know what Gregory was thinking and whispered, "I was like this when I was a child, too."
Gregory smiled and shook his head, not saying anything.
No one knew childhood Abigail better than him, but unfortunately... she didn't remember anything.
Abigail blinked in confusion, feeling that Gregory's words had a different meaning, and his gaze was also strange.
It seemed like he was looking at someone through her...
This realization startled Abigail, and she quickly shook her head to get rid of those messy thoughts.
She quickly changed the subject and asked, "Gregory, are you not busy with work? Why did you finish work so early?"
Gregory replied, "Hmm, I haven't been busy lately. The company only needs Leo."
Meanwhile, Leo was busy at the White Group office building, writing furiously at his desk.
Looking at the thick stack of documents on his desk, Leo felt like crying.
He worked hard for Gregory's happiness!
Leo gritted his teeth and continued to open a file to review and sign.
Gregory reached out and rubbed Abigail's head, saying to her, "After I finish this busy period, I will accompany you to pay tribute to your mother."
Abigail's watery eyes blinked, and a look of surprise suddenly appeared in her eyes, "Really?"
"Yeah, really."
Looking at Abigail's hopeful eyes, Gregory's heart instantly softened.
Michelle was the most important person to Abigail. Although she had passed away many years ago, he knew that Abigail had never truly moved on from the pain and darkness of losing her mother.
Therefore, his pity for Abigail grew even stronger.
Abigail felt extremely happy in her heart. If Michelle knew that she was already married, she would definitely be happy, even though her husband was not Roman but Gregory.
"Gregory, thank you. You're so good to me," Abigail thanked him seriously.
Gregory smiled and shook his head, "It's my negligence. I should have taken you there earlier."
Abigail's smile deepened, her gaze falling on Gregory's handsome face as she whispered, "Gregory, my mom will definitely like you."
Gregory raised an eyebrow, "Is that so? Why are you so sure?"
Abigail confidently said, "My mom and I both like good-looking people."
Otherwise, Michelle would not have been deceived by David's face and would not have ruined her own life.
Abigail sighed silently in her heart, feeling both regret for Michelle and immense sadness.
Upon hearing this, Gregory raised his hand and touched his face, a slight smirk appearing on his lips.
He casually glanced at Abigail and asked, "Abigail, do you also think I am handsome?"
"Of course, Gregory, you are the most handsome man I have ever seen," Abigail said without hesitation.
Her answer pleased Gregory. His originally aloof and distant eyes instantly softened, with a hint of a smile in them.
