Chapter 434 Did You Miss Me?

Seeing her as happy as a child, Abigail smiled and gently tapped Mireille's head. "You're incredibly talented, just missing a bit of hands-on experience. After you graduate, you can choose to work at DM or perhaps in a department of the Worthington Group."

Mireille tilted her head and pondered for a moment. "I think DM suits me better. The atmosphere there is less... well, suffocating."

The companies under the Worthington Group were often filled with sycophants.

Everyone knew she was the eldest daughter of the Worthington family and would either flatter her or keep an annoyingly watchful eye.

She disliked being the center of calculated attention. DM felt freer.

Abigail nodded, pleased. "The fact that you're considering this shows you're not as pampered and reckless as people think. You don't rely on the Worthington name as much as they might assume."

Mireille's cheeks flushed slightly at the praise. "It's not really that. I just hate fake people. They smile at me but secretly wish for something in return—it's exhausting."

Abigail chuckled, reassured by how perceptive Mireille had become. At least she wouldn't be an easy target for deception.

Just then, there was a knock at the door. Caius stepped inside, his expression as steady as always. "There you are. I've been looking for you, Abigail. Come with me; it's time to start memorizing the medical manuscripts."

Abigail's jaw dropped, her cheerful demeanor instantly vanishing. "Dad, can't I get a single day off?"

Caius crossed his arms and raised a brow. "Absolutely not. Time doesn't wait."

Mireille's eyes widened in disbelief. "Wait, does that mean... Abigail's the chosen heir of the Worthington family?"

This was beyond her comprehension.

Abigail looked equally dumbfounded. "Wait, heir? Since when?"

Mireille glanced at Caius cautiously, as if treading on thin ice. "I thought you knew. The Worthington family's medical knowledge is never shared with outsiders. Even Cassian and Emrys didn't get the chance to learn it."

Cassian held a grudge for years over this, often complaining about Darwin's favoritism.

Abigail turned to her father with a questioning look. "Dad, is that true?"

Caius nodded firmly, his decision already made.

He thought, 'You're my only daughter. Who else would inherit this? Moreover, neither Emrys nor Cassian, nor even the younger ones like Orson, has what it takes to support the Worthington family. Handing it over to them is like watching a century-old legacy crumble before my eyes.'Abigail gulped, unsure how to respond, "Dad, you might want to reconsider. Managing DM is already overwhelming; I can't possibly handle something as monumental as this."

Caius's stern gaze silenced her protests. "You can and you will. Now, come along and start studying."

Left with no other option, Abigail reluctantly followed.

Fortunately, Abigail's exceptional memory allowed her to retain details after only one or two readings.

Caius was visibly impressed, nodding in satisfaction as he watched her progress. "Not bad. You truly take after me. Next, I'll explain the principles behind these treatments. Pay attention—I'll only explain once."

Abigail immersed herself in the lessons, asking questions whenever something wasn't clear.

By the end of just a few days, she had already mastered the basics of the first manuscript. Caius was growing more and more satisfied with Abigail.

In just three days, Abigail had already mastered an introductory medical text. When Gregory arrived, he found her identifying acupuncture points on a human model.

He stood silently at the doorway, his deep eyes filled with longing. Though they had only been apart for three days, it felt like an eternity to him.

Absorbed in her task, Abigail suddenly sensed a warm gaze. She turned and saw Gregory standing there. Her gaze lingered on Gregory for a moment, then her eyes lit up with joy as she rushed towards him.

Gregory caught her effortlessly, pressing a soft kiss to her lips. "Did you miss me?"

Abigail beamed, tightening her arms around his neck. "Of course I did. A lot."

Gregory's hand slid up to ruffle her hair affectionately. "And how have you been?"

"Good," Abigail replied cheerfully. "My parents are here, Mireille keeps me company, and everyone's been incredibly kind."

Seeing her glowing complexion, Gregory relaxed. But thinking about how he'd spent the last few days worrying over whether she was eating properly, staying warm, or feeling lonely without him, a hint of resentment flickered in his eyes.

"You heartless little thing," he teased, tapping her nose lightly. "Making me worry for no reason."

Abigail stuck out her tongue playfully and tugged him inside to show off her recent achievements.

Gregory listened patiently, never once taking his eyes off her.

As servants passed by, they exchanged knowing smiles.

It was clear to anyone watching: Abigail and Gregory were deeply in love. Even after just a few days apart, their connection was palpable.

Abigail didn't notice the subtle glances from the staff. For her, holding hands and sharing these moments with Gregory was just a natural part of their bond.

Excitedly, she shared, "Dad thinks I have a knack for medicine. He says it won't be long before I can start treating patients."

Gregory studied her face closely. Seeing no trace of reluctance, he let out a quiet sigh of relief.

Before coming, he'd prepared himself to talk to Caius if Abigail seemed overwhelmed. But now, it seemed unnecessary.

When Abigail finally paused, Gregory realized he hadn't said anything for a while. Her curious gaze met his, and her cheeks reddened under his intense stare.

"What's wrong?" she asked softly. "Do I have something on my face?"

Gregory leaned in with a mischievous grin. "No, but it's missing something."

Before she could respond, he kissed her cheek firmly. "There. Now it's perfect."

Abigail's cheeks turned an even deeper shade of red as realization dawned on her.

She glanced nervously toward the door, relieved to see no one there.
