Chapter 179 Gossiping Behind the Back

Susan and the head of HR shared a quick smile. She then turned to Abigail and said, "Thanks, Ms. Martin. I'll definitely work hard and won't let you down."

"I'm not too familiar with everything here. Mind showing me around?" Abigail asked.

It was her first time taking over the company, so getting to know the place was super important.

Hearing this, Susan grinned and said, "Of course, Ms. Martin. Right this way."

Abigail got up and followed Susan out of the CEO's office.

As they walked, Susan introduced Abigail to each department, and they popped in to take a look.

Abigail's presence immediately caught everyone's eye.

But the employees just watched quietly from the sidelines, barely daring to breathe.

Even though Abigail looked pretty young, she was still the boss. Messing up in front of her could mean big trouble!

As Abigail moved on, a buzz of conversation broke out behind her.

"Did you see Ms. Martin? She's gorgeous, like a goddess!"

"Good looks and money, she's living the dream!"

"Don't even think about it. She's married. Didn't you hear? She married Gregory, the CEO of the White Group, ages ago."

The male employees looked bummed out hearing this.

Beautiful women always seem to be taken.

All they could do was look, not touch.

Abigail heard the chatter about her but didn't mind.

Before deciding to take over DM, she had already braced herself for all kinds of gossip.

Since she didn't say anything, Susan couldn't figure out what she was thinking.

Seeing her blank expression, Susan got even more nervous and asked, "Ms. Martin, please don't be upset. They were just talking."

"I'm not upset. Sometimes it's kinda fun to hear what people say." Abigail smiled slightly, showing no signs of anger.

Susan bit her lip, unsure of what to say next.

She had thought a girl Abigail's age wouldn't handle rumors well.

But then again, if Abigail were just any ordinary girl, how could she have pushed David out and taken over?

Thinking about this, Susan's eyes sharpened, and she decided to be even more careful around Abigail from now on.

Abigail spent the whole morning touring the company.

She only stopped when her feet started to ache. "Susan, I'm heading to the restroom. You go ahead and grab lunch."

Susan quickly said, "No need, I'll stick with you."

She was eager to make a good impression on Abigail and didn't want to miss any chance to connect with her.

Abigail glanced at her, nodded, and they went to the restroom together.

As soon as they walked in, they heard a few girls whispering.

"Did you see Ms. Martin today? She's so beautiful and has such a great figure. I'm so jealous!"

Then a snarky voice followed, "What's there to be jealous of? I bet she's had plastic surgery. No one looks like that naturally!"

Someone else added, "Exactly. Everyone knows she only got the company because of Mr. White from the White Group. I bet she worked hard for it at night."

This comment got a round of laughter.

Susan got anxious, sweating bullets.

She glanced at Abigail, barely daring to breathe. "Ms. Martin, please don't be mad. They're just jealous."

Abigail turned to her, a faint smile on her lips. "I'm not mad. But if I hadn't come here, I wouldn't have known this is how the employees see me."

Susan's smile froze, and she stood there awkwardly, unsure of what to do.

She had thought Abigail, being so young and new to managing a company, would be easy to handle. But she didn't expect to see such a cold and authoritative aura in Abigail, like a true leader.

Especially her eyes—though smiling, they were cold and devoid of warmth, sending chills down her spine.

Despite having seen many grand scenes, Susan couldn't help but shiver.

She cleared her throat and deliberately knocked on the door, shouting inside, "Those who were talking just now, come out."

As soon as she finished speaking, the laughter in the restroom stopped instantly.

Everyone looked toward the door in horror, their eyes widening. "Ms. Martin?"

Seeing that they had noticed her, Abigail slowly walked up to them. "Go on, I haven't heard enough."

The female employees all lowered their heads, barely daring to breathe.

Their shoulders trembled uncontrollably with fear. "Ms. Martin, we didn't mean it. Please forgive us."

Abigail crossed her arms and looked at them coldly. "I don't mind being talked about behind my back, but you're all educated and women. You should understand how damaging rumors can be to a girl."

Everyone stood in a line, clutching their clothes tightly, not daring to speak.

Seeing them like this, Abigail shook her head slightly and said to Susan, "Ms. Susan, our company doesn't hire people with poor character."

With that, she turned and left without looking back.

Susan respectfully responded and then angrily glared at the few girls. "You all, go to the HR department this afternoon to settle your wages."

The female employees stood there dumbfounded, their minds blank, unable to believe that they had just been fired.

"Susan, please ask Ms. Martin for mercy. We were just chatting. She won't be harmed by it."

Susan looked at them with disappointment. "Chatting is one thing, but you shouldn't have talked about Ms. Martin. Pack your things and leave."

Ignoring their desperate pleas, Susan coldly dismissed them.

She was already struggling to protect herself; how could she have the time and energy to help others?

But what she didn't expect was how decisive and ruthless Abigail was, completely different from her gentle and sweet appearance.

This incident also warned her that Abigail was not as simple as she seemed and that she must not let her guard down.

To secure her position in the company, she had to align herself with Abigail closely.

The news of the dismissal of several female employees quickly spread throughout the company, causing everyone to be on edge, not knowing what to do.

With Abigail's arrival, no one could guarantee that they wouldn't be affected.

Unlike the employees, the board members were impressed when they heard about the incident.

"It seems she's not someone to be trifled with."

"Well, it makes sense. To become Gregory's wife, she couldn't be an ordinary person."

"But this shows that Abigail is not easy to control. Our situation will only get more difficult from now on."
